It was a common tactic during the traveling carnival/circus world

for the barker to entice the crowd forward with outlandish claims. That wasn't enough though. Carnival workers would be at the back of the crowd yelling, encouraging and even pushing the crowd forward to pay the entrance fee.

I hope the outcome of these hearings is the DOJ indicts the barker, and the crowd pushers, and not just the rubes.

When Bench got behind the plate he signaled for the curve. The pitcher, now quite angry, shook him off. Bench signaled again and the pitcher shook him off and went into his motion and fire a fastball.
