The ones I feel the worst for

are the ladies in the generation before mine. Or even some my own age, who never had a real chance or maybe even no need for a career outside the home. Oh they worked for real, raising families and such, or maybe even farmed, but not much Social Security if any. If they're widows now, even if their husbands had carved out careers for themselves, survivor's benefits and so on can be pitifully small. Who can live on $500 a month? Not many. Take away their medical care and housing and food stamps, they're doomed. If a society is to be judged by how it treats the least of these, a world ruled or even heavily influenced by Repukes is my notion of hell.

As it is, I barely made it to 62 on a wing and a prayer. W/O profits from the sale of a small AZ ranch at the peak of the housing bubble, and lucky win of a classic 'fixer' home at auction in the MidWest for $14.5K, I'd be under a bridge right now if alive at all. That's all I had to live on for almost 4 years. Still, how often does good luck like that happen? If I'd followed my heart to Maine, for instance, I'd be among those forced to work until I drop.

I don't think anyone who watched Julia Child for 5 minutes could ever shun butter.

At my age and after a bad wreck, I started to put on weight, partly because the TBI made me almost too dizzy to walk. Even as my balance improved over the course of 2 years, I think my self control had been affected also. Basically I just ate whatever I saw, including carbs and sugars. But while compromised I also started to watch Dr. Oz and gradually improved my diet w/o going on a diet. Still couldn't get around too well, so exercise really didn't figure into my gradual, easy weight loss. Dramatically improved nutrition did that all on its own.

I still enjoy a sane amount of carbs and sugars, I just don't dive into them as I used to do. I'll enjoy an eclair once a week, not every day. Now as the effects of the TBI gradually fade, I'm better able to get around and resume limited exercise. My weight continues to improve, and sat fats in reasonable amounts don't seem to affect that.

BTW, I've also learned that if carbs like pasta are briefly sauteed, it lowers their effect on the hypoglycemic scale.

Couldn't be understandable reaction to extremism, could it?

I swear I've never seen such obnoxious attacks on people by the faux-left as in this thread. Well, there've been a few others too, but I'm certainly done with this one thanks to you.

Okay, go ahead and cry foul harrassment again. I won't be able to hear you, and I seriously doubt any mod who reviews your posts will accommodate any complaint you file. I'm departing now in my own time and volition, not yours. Don't fool yourself.

October 24, 2013

Ah, the double talk and extremist threats to shut up now! Rings a bell.

Yes, now I remember! Every bully I ever came across! Just because somebody won't agree with you or shut up when you order them to doesn't amount to harrassment, much as you'd like to make it sound that way. Disagreeing in the manner which we've done is not bashing either. Grow up.

Be practical and put your shoulder to the wheel, and we'll get there together much faster.

(hint, hint)

We're building bedrock here, and that takes time.

You know I'm not picking on you, because I like a great many of your posts. I'm not saying bank the fire either, just direct it in the most efficient manner.

President Obama is not 'the best we can do'. He's the best, period. A few years down the road don't be surprised to find yourself realizing that more and more.

We don't have a BOG membership list that I know of, and it's possible you precede me.

But if you are new in the neighborhood, though obviously not new to the Dems, I want to extend warmest welcome. Please see #22, thanks.

Welcome to Rain Mcloud and blue-wave.

The more the merrier.

Yourselves and other awakening ex-R's completely! excepted, what I believe I'm seeing in a great # of R-leaders is more self interest and back scattering rather than real reformation. Their tails are in a crack as the sane faction leaves in droves, and it hurts.

Since you might not know me very well as yet, please understand that's not directed at you. What I'm against is destructive extremism on either end of the political spectrum; we have people pleased to imagine themselves so far to the left that their noses are too far up in the air to see where they're going. All the same they're intent on running the real Democratic party of the Big Tent straight off the tracks. Watch out for them because they're really nihilists. I just had to put a couple on ignore, which I've never done before. What I'm trying to say is, please don't let them run you off because they can be really nasty sometimes. They seem to hate the President as much as the TPs do.

We not only welcome you; we NEED you.

October 24, 2013

Since you have nothing better to do than harrass me, however, congratulations!

You are going on ignore. My stomach can only take so much.

About IrishAyes

Still an ardent Irish-American Catholic damnYankee Yellow Dog Democrat socialist after all these years. (cue Simon music) Army brat and wife for many years, now have been on the loose far longer than I was married. After my two red chows died, I took in a mini-beagle cross that I named Molly Maguire, thinking she might need a good Irish name like my original real one. Later she got a baby sister, a smooth-coat JRT I named Brigid after the greatest of the ancient Celtic goddesses. My great-grandfather and his son fought for Michael Collins and barely made it out of Ireland one step ahead of John Bull. They slipped over to Wales for new identities and then forward to the States for a fresh start. That makes me second generation of illegal but certainly justified immigrants. There are precious few people to whose defense I fly immediately, but the list includes Hillary Clinton, President Barack Obama even when I disagree with him - it happens! - and living Irish patriots Gerry Adams and Martin \\\'Mind Your Kneecaps\\\' McGuiness. I pray earnestly for a united and free Ireland rescued from all official British occupation, with every square inch of alleged \\\'ancestral lands\\\' now held immorally and illegally by the invaders returned to the rightful owners. Irish-only rule for Ireland. No foreign masters anymore! I find it passing strange when Brits chide ME about \'interfering\' in Irish politics!
