IrishAyes's JournalHere where I retired in the Midwest (you know the story all too well by now!),
someone once asked me what I liked best about living in L.A. so many years. I said the cultural diversity and how I could meet people from all over the world even w/o traveling! When I mentioned how people used to have block parties where they brought traditional dishes from their country of origin, listeners flipped out and raged, "They shouldn't do that! They should be like us!" It made me think, why in God's name would they want to do that?
My heart goes out to all in financial difficulty; my own working years were not
hand to mouth but rather boom or bust, so where the next dollar was coming from ruled my life back then. Yes, I'm retired now, older and much closer to my expiration date. But even the fact that I have fewer years left to live doesn't change the fact that NOW is the happiest time of my life selfishly speaking because at least I have a measure of safety now. Career Years can be such a head kicker that I don't envy those still involved. Best of luck to you.
Who? Where? When? Lemme at 'em! I wanna go too!
Ahhh... mystery solved. The logo wouldn't show on the OP page but did on the reply.
Regardless, I still think it's a good idea - and the battle plan's superb. Onward and upward!
It dates back farther than the Wobblies.
And yes, I know when someone's trying to pick a fight. With men it's usually their need to pee higher on the tree.
A well-crafted sharp barb doesn't NEED the sarcasm tag. That's a crutch.
When it reflects such a widely held belief on a critical cultural problem,
perhaps the sarcasm tag is necessary for those who need it as a communication crutch. Your barb was blunt.
Regardless, what a 'charming' way to call me stupid. May I return the compliment?
Words are the most powerful weapons on earth and should be used with care and respect.
Loose lips sink ships. Poor composition and lack of personal oversight reflect poorly on a person's work ethic and therefore on the person himself.

PS: If you really don't believe composition and copy editing are important, let me introduce you to a friend's father, a lawyer of the old school (he knew grammar and therefore how to diagram sentences), who broke a contract on the basis of a misplaced modifier. Those plagues that infest language today. Good luck in court against such as he!
As in all things, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder.
While I personally dislike modern design almost unilaterally, I happen to like the Katrina Cottages built in NOLA. They follow more traditional tastes with porches etc. And if anything ever destroys my own home, I'd be fully content building a small dome home or yurt - that's all I could afford. With a big enough disaster to look back on, most people would be thrilled with these houses.
Good on Brad Pitt and the OP.
You realize you've just ruined Li'l Rascals reruns for me, don't you?
It will take extreme mental discipline to blot THAT picture out of my mind.
Thanks. We need all the help we can get.
What if we - especially the older ones - had decided 'Nam for instance was just a man's fight that bored us so we didn't want to hear about it???
Guess it's a good thing I skipped GD today then, isn't it? I'd have gone on a tear.
They sound like flippin' conservatives! In fact, I'd bet your bottom dollar some of them are trolls, and I don't have to smell 'em up close to know that, anymore than I have to open an outhouse door to know it stinks in there.
