Still an ardent Irish-American Catholic damnYankee Yellow Dog Democrat socialist after all these years. (cue Simon music) Army brat and wife for many years, now have been on the loose far longer than I was married. After my two red chows died, I took in a mini-beagle cross that I named Molly Maguire, thinking she might need a good Irish name like my original real one. Later she got a baby sister, a smooth-coat JRT I named Brigid after the greatest of the ancient Celtic goddesses. My great-grandfather and his son fought for Michael Collins and barely made it out of Ireland one step ahead of John Bull. They slipped over to Wales for new identities and then forward to the States for a fresh start. That makes me second generation of illegal but certainly justified immigrants. There are precious few people to whose defense I fly immediately, but the list includes Hillary Clinton, President Barack Obama even when I disagree with him - it happens! - and living Irish patriots Gerry Adams and Martin \\\'Mind Your Kneecaps\\\' McGuiness. I pray earnestly for a united and free Ireland rescued from all official British occupation, with every square inch of alleged \\\'ancestral lands\\\' now held immorally and illegally by the invaders returned to the rightful owners. Irish-only rule for Ireland. No foreign masters anymore! I find it passing strange when Brits chide ME about \'interfering\' in Irish politics!

Even here in RedNeckLand,

I've noticed fewer people accost me on that account, seeing as how this state is refusing expansion. Maybe a dim light bulb's turning on for them. They still jump me for other things, but not the ACA so much anymore.

And I'd almost swear one lady looked at me with a hint of approval last week at church.

I'm still waiting for a certain electrical job to get done at home before I send my next letter to the newspaper, though. The electrician I need is a real teabagger. Needless to say, he'll only be working in the rear bottom half of the house, the part that encloses the 1848 slave cabin and my present laundry/storage area. I wouldn't let him in the rest of my house anyway, and he'd croak if I did; I just looked around the living room and office, and counted 4 pictures of President Obama; one of the first inaugural dance with Michelle, one with Lincoln, one smaller family photo about 4 years old, and one of his baby pictures. Not teabagger friendly territory.

I'm clean except for a couple Cool Max shirts bought before I knew.

My needs and means are pretty minimal at this age anyway. Grow a lot of my own food, buy used goods most of the time except for curbside vintage, etc. Had to give up going to auctions because I always came home with great stuff that I still don't really need, and the house is crammed full already. Recently snagged a huge mahogany desk curbside that's too big to fit through my narrow doors (old house, bought at auction) so now it's on my porch serving as a big plant stand.

Time to quit!

Anyone have details on Tea Leone's new show 'Madame Secretary'?

I've only caught glimpses of the ads but had begun to think the show might be worth at least a fair trial. Then the other day a new ad came on, which once again I only caught a fleeting glimpse. But it seemed her character was apologizing/explaining something to a character who might well be the president in this show. I got one good look at his face and thought, OMG a Romney lookalike! Somebody please tell me I was mistaken. If my first impression of that snippet is accurate, I won't be able to survive the horror of a single whole episode. I haven't seen the snippet since for a more informed impression.

Update on flickering Dell Latitude 630 laptop screen.

This morning I talked with the one computer seller/repairman in the area, since I had bought my TP Link signal booster from him.

After I described the problem's history and what posters had told me in the earlier thread, he agreed completely about the situation. Said he'd seen it in MANY Dells and he didn't like 'em either. Won't even carry them anymore. I asked about the price and advisability of repair and he said why, when the replacement part would be just as crappy as the original.

However, he did have one suggestion that I'm mortified to admit I'd never even thought about. When the computer was donated to me as refurbished, I stupidly assumed that meant updated as well. So when the repairman said not, I spent half the day (weak wifi signal, massive backlog) updating the POS laptop in hopes of getting a little more service from it before it croaks. I'll just unload stuff every evening when I turn it off, knowing that one day it will refuse to turn on.

And then I don't know if anyone could pay me to take another Dell. I have got an older Chromebook but don't prefer it only because of the smaller screen. Also, until recently I didn't have a signal booster strong enough to pull in enough juice for it to recognize. Guess it's time for new eyeglasses, then!

You may already know the results of yesterday's Michael Brown autopsy:

At least 6 shots, only the last 2 fatal to the top of his head when he was surrendering and had his head down. And some POS teabaggers claiming he could've been rushing the cop with his head down. So really, who does that when they're unarmed and have already taken four close range shots? Not unless they're high on PCP, they don't. No evidence of that as yet and no reason to expect it either.

Now on the CBS evening news Scott Pelley's talking about a Border Patrol official who was reassigned for questioning the validity of at least SEVEN agent kills where people were shot in the back or side while trying to flee. It's open season out there and has been for years. But soooo many claim they have no idea what gets into these minorities. Wait until they're on the receiving end - they won't like it. And sooner or later the MIC will come for them, too. They just think (falsely) right now that the establishment will always be on their side. Not when the herd needs to be culled.

After having been innocently given a dud, I don't want to risk buying parts for it

that may or may not work; since I'm no expert, the seller would blame me for not installing it right whether I was at fault or not, and I'd have no recourse.

I've already done as much as I could of what you and others have suggested, for which I want to thank you all again. And I think the problem's a little worse today already. So I'll probably just offload my daily work before shutting down and run this sucker until it totally quits. I don't like the flashing, but I can live with a lot of it. One thing for sure, I'll never ever buy a Dell.

Do you think I should let CRS know about what a piece of junk they were given by some business as a tax write-off? I don't want to sound ungrateful. It's not the fault of CRS. But then they might be paying someone for the refurbishing too, I don't know.

DOJ told that sheriff not to release the store robbery tapes, but he did it anyway.

As if to say, the kid was a criminal so it was okay to murder him when he turned around and gave up with his hands in the air, got down on his knees and begged for his life. First the sheriff said the officer didn't know about the robbery - as if that mattered with the sheriff stealing a LIFE! - and then the sheriff said the officer did know - as if that should influence whether to murder someone who's clearly surrendering. No wonder people were in such a rage - not to mention all the heavy military tactics being used whether people were peaceful or not.

I signed a petition for a law requiring that police wear lapel cams. That reportedly reduces officer shootings somewhere around 30% when they know what they do will be recorded. Which leads me to believe possibly 30% of police shootings are NOT justified.

BTW, UrbScotty, did someone in GD really call you sanctimonious? That's a hangout for a lot of jerks, y'know. Pay them no mind. Some people would call others sanctimonious or worse if they were told it's wrong to kick dogs.
