This little girl reminds me of my daughter. 😁

She's a lot older than the kid in this comic,, but she loves to tell anti-choicers about how she wouldn't exist if her mom hadn't had an abortion (for the same reasons mentioned here) and ask them if they think she shouldn't exist. It throws them for a loop, because it doesn't compute with their pre-existing assumptions about abortion always being a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad thing.

Bragg, DA probing Trump, received death threat letter with white powder

Source: NBC News

The FBI and NYPD are investigating a letter containing a death threat and white powder that was mailed to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, whose office is investigating former President Donald Trump, law-enforcement sources told NBC News.

The letter was addressed to Bragg and said, "ALVIN: I AM GOING TO KILL YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!” the sources said. It contained a small amount of white powder.

*snip*

It was the latest in what a senior law enforcement source described as "several hundred threats" aimed at Bragg and his office in recent weeks. A couple dozen of the messages were considered to be directly threatening serious harm to Bragg, the source said.

*snip*

In a statement, the DA's office said the letter “was immediately contained and that the NYPD Emergency Service Unit and the NYC Department of Environmental Protection determined there was no dangerous substance.”

What a crass, tasteless, stupid, asinine, rude, crude, gross, appalling, obnoxious, disgusting, and

completely NON-reality based stunt! But it's also kind of hilarious! Why. Because Bobo implied that fetuses are not human!

The National Geographic Society defines an endangered species as "a type of organism that is threatened by extinction."
https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/endangered-species/

The same orgzanization says "A species is often defined as a group of organisms that can reproduce naturally with one another and create fertile offspring. However, the classification of a species can be difficult—even riddled with controversy."
https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/species/

And finally, here is a definition of the word fetus: "The yet-to-be born mammalian offspring following the embryonic stage, [which] is still going through further development prior to birth."
https://www.biologyonline.com/dictionary/fetus

In other words, a fetus is not a separate species. It is a pre-birth developmental stage, common to all mammalian organisms. A fetus is an organism of the same species as the orgnisms that provided its DNA.

The anti-choice crowd is constantly preaching that all organisms with human DNA, including fetuses, embryos, and even zygotes (eggs that have just been fertilized by a sperm, right now, this very minute) are human. They are very, VERY emphatic about this. They even want to pass laws about this. Is homo sapiens an endangered species? Hell no! Perhaps this could happen eventually if the effects of climate change are severe enough, but currently? No way.

Since a particular developmental stage =/= a species, it is impossible for any particular organism at any developmental stage to be an endangered species. If the species it belongs to is endangered, it could be considered a member of an endangered species, but that is a completely different thing.

TL/dr: Bobo can't call a fetus with human DNA an endangered species OR a member of an endangered species, without implying that it is not human, which would be a complete repudiation of a central tenet of the anti-choice credo!

In case you all haven't seen this....

"Blue Wall' Democrats urge the White House to give Chicago the 2024 DNC convention

brooklynite already posted this in GD, but I thought it deserved to be posted here, too. Here's the link to the GD thread: https://www.democraticunderground.com/100217752081

What are your tthoughts? Personally, I would be over the moon (for purely selfish reasons, among others ) to have the convention in Chicago!

These people don't believe being trans is "real."

They really don't. They think trans kids, in particular, are just "confused."

According to their theology, God made 2 genders, male and female, and however you're born, that's what you're "supposed" to be. (Don't even ask them about intersex people; I'm sure they don't even know what that word means.) Transitioning, therefore, is going against God's will, which means it's sinful. *clue pearl clutching*

These loons believe that anatomy is destiny. If you're born with female body parts, for example, that means you're female, which also means you are only allowed to have sex with people who were born with male body parts. (Intersex? What's that?) In their eyes, trans women are really men and always will be, no matter what. Trans men, likewise, are really women.

According to them, if God gave you a penis, that means you are supposed to use it to make babies with someone who was born with a vagina (and presumably a working uterus and ovaries, although that is by no means guaranteed). If he gave you a vagina (and presumably a working uterus and ovaries, see above), that means He wants you to find someone born with a penis to make babies with. Why? Because that is God's will; how dare you defy Him! *barf*

Changing your body to make it different from how God made you is going against his will, according to these pinheads. Even though changing one's gender isn't nentioned in the Bible at all, they're pretty sure it's just as much of an an "abomination" as they believe homosexuality is, because (like homosexuality) it involves using the genitals you were born with in a way other than reproducing with someone who was born with the opposite set of genitals to yours.

People who believe all of the above regard trans people (especially trans kids) as deluded and confused. They evidently think that if they can stop trans kids from receiving gender affirming medical care, those kids will somehow come to their senses. Or ... something. I'm not clear on how that's supposed to work. But since they also believe (erroneously) that a large percentage of people who transition regret it eventually, maybe they think anyone who is denied the opportunity to transition will eventually realize that staying the sex they were assigned at birth is what they really wanted after all all. (Yeah, fat chance, nimrods, it does NOT work that way.)

I would wager that they probably even think they'll be doing trans kids a favor by preventing them om receiving general affirming care. Yes, I know how fucked up that is, but we are talking about some very fucked up people here.

I know how gross all this probably sounds. Believe me, I feel gross just from typing it. But I think it's important to know what these people believe and how they think. Thr first step in fighting something is knowing what makes it tick.

Florida abortion ban: "These People Aren't Interested in Expertise"

The most consistent posture among those who would restrict abortion is to disregard pregnancy as a medical condition.

After nearly a year with a 15-week abortion ban in place, Florida appears poised to restrict it even further. In similar bills introduced in the two houses of the state Legislature last week, Republicans proposed banning nearly all abortions performed after six weeks of pregnancy. The GOP supermajorities that control the Florida House and Senate are expected to pass the bills easily, and Gov. Ron DeSantis has said he will sign the ban into law.

*snip*

Perhaps some legislators in favor of the proposed ban know [that, in a state with a six-week abortion ban, a patient has about a weeklong opening in which to legally terminate a pregnancy]. It is likely that, for a good number of them, the dwindling likelihood that a Florida woman would be able to identify and terminate an unplanned pregnancy before her legal window slams shut is the entire point of the bill, because it will make her more likely to give up and give birth.

But surely, many of the ban’s supporters do not know—or particularly care—when the initial gestational sac of a pregnancy becomes visible on an ultrasound, or that “six weeks” pregnant typically means just four weeks after conception. They may not be aware that “six weeks” pregnant is only two weeks after the first indication of a missed period—in a person with a perfectly regular menstrual cycle.

These are medical details that pertain to pregnancy as a biological condition—a thing that happens to the body, explicable by science and the provenance of doctors—that is intimately entwined with health, pain, and injury. For all its clamoring about “heartbeats” and “fetal pain,” the anti-abortion right has no interest in the biological particulars of pregnancy.

This article makes my blood boil, but it also explains some things, in a weird sort of way. It's obvious to me that the people who make these kinds of laws have no conception (pun intended) and therefore no appreciation or concern for many of the biological realities or pregnancy. Still, it's enraging that such ignorant and uncaring people have the power to do this.

Law enforcement agencies are prepping for a possible Trump indictment as early as next week

NOTE: Right after I posted this, I discovered that BumRushDaShow had already posted it in LBN yesterday. I'll leave this here, but I encourage everyone to check out the earlier thread, which already has many comnents: https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1014&pid=3047334

Whether you believe he's going to be indicted next week or not, law enforcement is getting ready. I can't help suspecting that they know something we don't.

Law enforcement agencies are prepping for a possible Trump indictment as early as next week
Multiple agencies are discussing potential security plans for in and around the Manhattan Criminal Court in case Trump is charged in connection with an alleged hush money payment to Stormy Daniels.
By Jonathan Dienst

Local, state and federal law enforcement and security agencies are preparing for the possibility that former President Donald Trump will be indicted as early as next week, according to five senior officials familiar with the preparations.

Law enforcement agencies are conducting preliminary security assessments, the officials said, and are discussing potential security plans in and around the Manhattan Criminal Court, at 100 Centre Street, in case Trump is charged in connection with an alleged hush money payment to Stormy Daniels and travels to New York to face any charges.

The officials stress that the interagency conversations and planning are precautionary in nature because no charges have been filed.

The agencies involved include the NYPD, New York State Court Officers, the U.S. Secret Service, the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, the officials said. NBC News has reached out to all of those agencies for comment, and all have declined to comment.

So all these LE agencies are preparing feverishly for something that could-possibly-maybe-just-might-who-knows happen, AND they're all declining to comment? Yeah, not buying it. This is for real real, folks. Mark your calendars, if you haven’t already.

Trumpty Dumpty just says whatever pops into his head.

If it pops into his head, it spews out of his mouth. He has no interest in or concern with whether any of it jibes with facts or reality.

It's a very weird way to go through life, imo, assuming you can say absolutely anything, about absolutely anything, with no regard to truth or accuracy. I don't think he would have ever gotten away with it to the extent that he has if he hasn't been born into so much wealth and privilege. Unfortunately, it's been an ingrained habit now for probably his entire adult life. I don't think he is capable of changing, even if he wanted to (and of course he will never see any reason why he should).

There are those who will say that all politicians lie, but I think the sheer extent of his lying is unusual, if not unique. (I'm talking about in comparison with most politicians, not a freak like Santos lol). The fact that he literally does not even seem to know, much less care, if he's lying or not seems especially noteworthy to me.

I think most people who lie a lot choose to do so deliberately, because it serves their purpose at the time. Liars make choices to lie about specific things, for specific reasons. Trump doesn't make conscious decisions about lying. He just blurts out whatever comes to mind, period. I honestly think he often lies more or less unconsciously, because he doesn't really differentiate between the thoughts in his head and objective reality. "Reality," to him, is whatever he thinks it is at any particular moment in time, and the phrase "objective reality" has no meaning for him.

Sorry to go on at such length about this. I have a deep interest in psychopathology, and Trump's pathology is a source of endless fascination to me. I know not everyone feels that way!
