The Supreme Court refused on Monday to disturb a ruling from New Jersey’s top court that sided with Gov. Chris Christie in a legal fight with public worker unions over pension funds.
The justices did not comment in rejecting the unions’ appeal. The high court order came less than three weeks after Christie ended his run for the Republican presidential nomination.
New Jersey’s Supreme Court ruled last year that the state is obligated to pay individual retirees their pensions, but it overturned a lower court ruling that would have forced the state to come up with billions to pay promised pension benefits. New Jersey’s pension fund has nearly $75 billion in unfunded liabilities, stemming from underpayment by previous governors, both Democratic and Republican.

The state ruling last year allowed Christie to propose making a roughly $1.9 billion payment to the pension fund in his 2017 fiscal year budget, well below the roughly $3.8 billion payment he and the Legislature agreed to in 2011 legislation.

'Unicorn' leads CHP officers on a nearly four-hour chase

When a caller reported a "unicorn-like" animal galloping down an open Central Valley road, the California Highway Patrol suspected someone was high on hallucinogenic drugs.
But then officers met Juliet -- a snow-white, 600-pound Shetland pony with a prosthetic horn and a fuzzy pink bridle.
The wannabe unicorn twice bolted from a photo shoot in Madera Ranchos on Wednesday, leading CHP officers on a lengthy, if not enchanted, pursuit.
"Initially he thought it might be somebody out there on drugs, seeing things," said CHP spokesman Josh McConnell. "It was a little unreal to hear calls of a unicorn running around on the roadway."

Hamas has championed the unveiling of a “locally-made tank” in front of thousands of people in Gaza, but the supposed weapon has been dismissed as nothing more than a parade float after photos revealed an unusual design.
At first glance, the khaki vehicle trundling through crowds mourning the death of seven militants from the Al-Qassam Brigades appeared to be the genuine article, but a closer look revealed something very wrong.
While real tanks move on moving metal belts rotated using wheels, Hamas’ vehicle appeared to be mounted on normal tyres concealed behind fake treads.

Spotted: First video of the only known wild jaguar in the U.S. shows 'El Jefe' roaming Arizona mount

The only known wild jaguar in the United States has been seen roaming around a creek in southern Arizona in the first publicly released video of the big cat.
'El Jefe' - Spanish for 'the boss' - has been living in the Santa Rita Mountains about 25 miles south of downtown Tucson for more than three years, according to the Center for Biological Diversity.
El Jefe is about seven years old and is one of only four or five jaguars that have been spotted in the U.S. in the last 20 years. He is the only documented wild jaguar in the country.
