Man with asthma dies after being hogtied by police

A Tennessee man with asthma died after being hogtied and placed facedown on a stretcher by police following a Widespread Panic concert in Mississippi.

"A witness heard him tell police that he could not breathe," Memphis attorney Tim Edwards told The Huffington Post on Monday.

Edwards is representing the family of the dead man, whom he identified as Troy Goode, a 30-year-old chemical engineer and married father of one from Cordova, Tennessee.

According to Edwards, Goode and his wife attended a Saturday concert in Southaven, Mississippi. The couple was driving away from the concert venue when Goode exited the vehicle near a local shopping center.

The saddest fact is that bystanders called this case, having been recorded saying "Record this just in case he dies"

Subtle racism in reporting - Man accused of topping girls lemonade stand and fleeing with $30

An 18-year-old Riverside man was arrested on suspicion of overturning two teenage girls’ lemonade stand and absconding with their pink and turquoise money box, authorities said Thursday.

Santini Tate walked up to the stand in Rancho Cucamonga about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday and asked the two 13-year-old girls for some lemonade, according to the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department.

Even though he said he did not have cash, the girls gave Tate some lemonade, sheriff’s officials said, and he walked away.

Tate returned a moment later, according to sheriff's officials, and toppled the lemonade stand before snatching the box, which contained about $30.

Reading this, my immediate thought is that it takes a special kind of evil for one to lower themselves to robbing a kids lemonade stand.

But re-reading the article, and remembering past articles detailing crimes committed by 18 year-olds - In some cases, crimes a lot worse - it's not so hard to see the subtle racism the person writing the article went with by labeling a 18 year old black male as a man - Alluding the him being a adult - instead of labeling him a 'teenage male' as in the case in articles about crimes committed by equivalently aged white 18 year olds.

It's interesting really, the subtle differences that newspapers use when reporting crimes involving PoC's.

Hillary Clinton refuses to support a $15 national minimum wage.

[quote]Hillary Clinton on Thursday wouldn’t commit to supporting a $15 national minimum wage but said she is working with Democrats in Congress who are determining how high it can be set.

“I support the local efforts that are going on that are making it possible for people working in certain localities to actually earn 15,” Clinton said in a response to a question from BuzzFeed News during a press availability in New Hampshire on Thursday.

“I think part of the reason that the Congress and very strong Democratic supporters of increasing the minimum wage are trying to debate and determine what’s the national floor is because there are different economic environments. And what you can do in L.A. or in New York may not work in other places.”

What was it that she told Fight for 15, just ten days ago? Oh yeah "I want to be your Champion"

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/06/07/hilllary-clinton-minimum-wage_n_7530914.html

I guess she overlooked the part of Fight for 15's goals was to see all fast food workers being paid a $15 minimum.

http://fightfor15.org/why-we-strike/

Putting her statements together, what does she say? - "I want to champion your fight for a $15 minimum wage, but I don't think all minimum wage workers deserve a $15 minimum wage"

Church sends collection notices to members

Most people who attend church are used to seeing the offering plate passed around the pews. People donate what they can as a proud member of the congregation.

...

Petterson said finding the Greater Mount Moriah Primitive Baptist Church was a blessing. The single mother had been looking for a church closer to her new home and six months in, things were going perfectly. That is, until she received an odd letter at her home last week.

"To be a member in good standing and have the right to vote, adults are to contribute the minimum amount of $50 per month," read Petterson.

To her surprise it was from the church stating she was delinquent in her financial support.

Huh, whatever happened to offer what you can?
