Kevin Rudd: Sky News is Outraged: Murdoch Watch Ep. 12

Murdoch's YouTube channel has become a platform for celebrating far-right extremism.

But instead of acting responsibly, they pretend to be outraged at being asked to take the content down... not good enough. #MurdochRoyalCommission

Murdoch doesn't care about profiteering from the rise of far-right extremism, now around 40% of ASIO's counter-terrorism cases.

Murdoch's employees should ask themselves: what if they were promoting and celebrating violence against someone more like them?

There is something beautiful in seeing the poor accept their lot, to suffer it like Christ's Passion

That's a quote from Mother Teresa.

I was wondering if this sums up Republican policies of the past 40 years?

Sure seems like it.

Your thoughts?

Arizona making plans to execute prisoners with the same gas Nazis used at Auschwitz: report

On Saturday, Business Insider reported that Arizona has purchased the materials needed to manufacture hydrogen cyanide gas — the same chemical the Nazis used to murder Jewish prisoners at Auschwitz and other death camps — just as they are refurbishing a gas chamber used in death row executions.

"The Arizona Department of Corrections spent more than $2,000 in procuring the ingredients for the gas, The Guardian reported, citing the partially-redacted documents," reported Alexandra Ma. "The ingredients purchased include a solid brick of potassium cyanide, sodium hydroxide pellets, and sulfuric acid, per the documents ... The documents published by The Guardian also included instructions on how to operate the gas chamber."

"Cyanide is lethal in that it prevents the body from using oxygen. It was used in both World Wars — by French and Austrian troops in World War I, and by Nazi Germany in World War II, according to a 2014 fact sheet by the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. The trade name for hydrogen cyanide is Zyklon B," said the report.

Asphyxiation by hydrogen cyanide gas is an extremely painful way to die, causing violent seizures and cardiac arrest as the body's cells are blocked from respirating.

"Arizona currently uses lethal injections as its method of capital punishment," noted the report. "However, there have been no executions for seven years following the botched death penalty of the murderer Joseph Wood in 2014, according to the Guardian. Woods took two hours to die following 15 injections as he lay gasping and gulping on a gurney."

Many states have been seeking an alternative to lethal injection as scientists have revealed the torture behind the traditional drug cocktails and corporations that manufacture the drugs have cut them off for use in executions. Other states, like South Carolina, are considering firing squads as an alternative.

Patrick Sky, Singer-Songwriter Popular in the '60s, Dead at 77

Some DUers of a certain age may remember Patrick Sky for his lp 'Songs that made America Famous' but other music fans may remember him for being the founder of Green Linnet Records which turned onto some to the greatest of Celtic music of the 70s and 80s.

https://bestclassicbands.com/patrick-sky-obituary-5-27-21/

Singer-songwriter Patrick Sky, a mainstay of the Greenwich Village folk music community in the mid-’60s, died this morning (May 27, 2021) in Asheville, N.C. His death was confirmed by fellow musician Eric Andersen, who noted that Sky had been in hospice care. No cause of death was revealed. Sky was 77.

Wrote Andersen in his Facebook post, “In the ’60s Village he and Buffy St. Marie and Peter LaFarge (“Ira Hayes”) were close friends in more ways than one. They all shared Native American descent. Pat’s was Cherokee from Georgia. He once fashioned a beautiful Indian mouth bow for Buffy, which she still plays. Pat was close friends to the great Dave Van Ronk, also known as the Mayor of MacDougal Street. They were musical drinking pals at the Kettle of Fish and Pat had always had a very droll, barbed sense of humor. But he couldn’t take the business hassles of the music scene. Last time we were together was when we did a small concert together at a university and were interviewed by Jeff Place from the Smithsonian Institution. Afterwards, we retired to Pat and [his wife] Cathy’s comfy mobile home and sat in the dark drinking beers wondering what happened with who and where did so and so go? Am still planning to record your great song ‘Nectar of God.’”

Patrick Sky was born Patrick Lynch on Oct. 2, 1943, in Liveoak Gardens, Georgia, of Irish and Native American heritage. He spent most of his childhood in Louisiana, where he learned to play guitar, banjo, and harmonica. After a stint in the Army, in the early ’60s, he moved to New York City, where he began his career performing traditional folk songs. He soon began writing his own material, which became increasingly topical in nature.

Sky’s self-titled debut album, released on Vanguard Records, in 1965, is often heralded as a hidden gem of the folk movement. He switched to the Verve Forecast label in 1968 for the album Reality is Bad Enough. In 1973 he released Songs That Made America Famous on the Adelphi label; its songs (recorded in 1971) were often explicit and political in nature.

In 1973, Sky co-founded the Green Linnet Records label, specializing in Celtic music, and he later became a builder of Irish uilleann pipes, an instrument that he also played; he published several books on the instrument. Although Sky expressed his disillusionment with the music industry, he continued to perform and record, usually with his wife Cathy, into the current century.

55-year-old Ashtabula Co. man killed in explosion while attempting to make IEDs in garage, officials say

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 55-year-old man died in an explosion Saturday while attempting to make improvised explosive devices in his garage, according to the Ashtabula County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to the 1300 block of Clay Street Saturday after receiving a report that the Jefferson Township Fire Department had been dispatched to the address.

Deputies learned that a man was trapped in the detached garage, and once on scene, they found the garage, located behind the residence, burned to the ground with debris scattered into the neighbor's yard.

“They are explosive devices, they could be along the lines with fireworks but a little more than that,” Ashtabula County Sheriff William Niemi said.

Neighbors described to News 5 how their homes shook after what they said was a half dozen explosions coming from the garage.

“The whole entire garage blew up, somebody needs to get here now,” a 911 caller described to a dispatcher.
