Tangerine Dream Founder Edgar Froese Dead at 70

Edgar Froese, founding member and keyboardist of the long-running band Tangerine Dream and an electronic music pioneer, passed away after suffering a pulmonary embolism on January 20th. Froese was 70.

"This is a message to you we are very sorry for… On January 20th, Tuesday afternoon, Edgar Froese suddenly and unexpectedly passed away from the effects of a pulmonary embolism in Vienna," the band posted on Facebook Friday afternoon. "The sadness in our hearts is immensely. Edgar once said: 'There is no death, there is just a change of our cosmic address.' Edgar, this is a little comfort to us."

Formed in 1967 in West Berlin and born out of the same Krautrock scene that produced Kraftwerk, Cluster, Neu! and Can, Tangerine Dream's 1970 debut LP Electronic Meditation, which featured fellow electronic music giant Klaus Schulz, shared many of the same musical qualities as their German peers.

However, by the early Seventies, Froese and his reformed Tangerine Dream soon journeyed toward more celestial, synthetic soundscapes as featured on albums like 1971's Alpha Centauri and 1973's Atem. After being among the first artists to sign with Virgin Records, Tangerine Dream released their seminal 1974 album Phaedra, where Froese experimented with sequencers and launched the Berlin School style of electronic music. The album is widely considered the band's masterpiece.

Palin was pictured alongside two men, one of whom appears to be Sgt. Dakota Meyers, a Medal of Honor recipient, and the person who apparently posted the image.

Meyers posted the image with the caption "Here's a tribute to you Michael Moore. Share it and make it trending ‪#?michaelmoore‬."

Both instances of the letter "o" in Moore were replaced with what appeared to be crosshairs in the handmade sign shown in the photo.

Michael Moore has received criticism from conservatives for his scathing comments on "American Sniper" a movie based on the autobiography of former Navy SEAL and sniper Chris Kyle.

MEQUON, WI—Saying that the practice saves her considerable time and effort each day, local ob-gyn doctor Anna Schiesser told reporters Thursday that she typically just shows soon-to-be parents the same ultrasound picture for every baby. “I’ve got about 200 copies of this thing in my desk, so rather than print up a new one, I usually just whip one of these out and then sit back as they ‘ooh’ and ‘ahh’ over a picture of a fetus I took back in 1999,” said Dr. Schiesser, noting how she usually tells parents whether the child is male or female by drawing their attention to the same dark spot on the image each time. “I’ll point out its head or a hand and say something about how it looks like it’s developing nicely or whatever. A lot of times people say they can see a family resemblance. Honestly, everyone seems to leave here feeling pretty excited, and it makes my day way easier, so why not?” Schiesser confirmed that she’s fully prepared in the case of babies in the breech position, saying that she keeps numerous copies of a digitally mirrored version of the same image on hand as well.
