Trump directs Pentagon to schedule military parade for Veterans Day



The president has directed the Department of Defense to organize a parade that would take place on Nov. 11 – Veterans Day – according to an unclassified Feb. 20 memo written by National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster.

The memo, which was summarized to POLITICO by a senior administration official, was sent from McMaster to Secretary of Defense James Mattis. It says that Trump wants Mattis to brief him on “concepts of operation for this event.”

The memo also said that the parade route should begin at the White House and end at the Capitol.

Trump, who revels in pageantry, first floated the idea of putting on a military parade after he witnessed France’s Bastille Day parade last summer as a guest of French president Emmanuel Macron.

RNC started paying Trump campaign's rent at Trump Tower after it stopped covering Trump's legal bills for Russia probe

The Republican National Committee has for months been quietly paying expenses previously covered by the Trump campaign in an arrangement that experts say is bizarre, but legal.

The payments include more than $37,000 a month in rent to President Donald Trump's company, and thousands more in salary to Vice President Mike Pence's nephew, John Pence.

The payments started abruptly last September, when the RNC came under pressure to stop paying Trump's personal legal bills in the special counsel's Russia investigation.

Speaking to Vulture, he’d called the British band “the worst musicians in the world” and “no-playing motherfuckers,” adding that “Paul [McCartney] was the worst bass player I ever heard. Jones said he’d made private approaches to some people to say sorry personally, and emphasized that he hadn’t had a drink in three years He said he's learned a valuable lesson. “I want you to know I hear you," he said. "I hear ALL of you. … I encourage you all to please grow with me and keep on keepin’ on. Love, an 85-year-old bowlegged man who is still learning from his mistakes.”

Trump’s oldest son has come under harsh criticism for the trip, where he is hawking opportunities to purchase million dollar condos while being protected by the Secret Service, and, in an effort to tamp down complaints, switched from giving a speech on foreign policy to what was hastily dubbed “A Fireside Chat with Donald Trump Jr.”

“That will cost us quite a bit of money I’m sure in terms of lost opportunity,” Trump Jr. said of deals that he claims have been set aside or have been turned down in order to avoid the appearance of conflict of interest.

Turning to Mueller’s Russia investigation, where the younger Trump is under scrutiny over his meeting with Russians in Trump Tower prior to the 2016 election, Don Jr. complained that it has been both a waste of time and a financial drain.

“The level of scrutiny is ridiculous,” he told the assembled Indian reporters. “The good thing is, after all that — millions in legal fees, hundreds of hours of preparation, every headline in the world trying to attack me personally — they kept digging and the only thing that they found is that the other side is doing these things and we didn’t do anything.”
