OOOOPS! "RNC told Trump to offer condolences to Orlando victims — then shut the hell up"
http://www.rawstory.com/2016/06/rnc-told-trump-to-offer-condolences-to-orlando-victims-then-shut-the-hell-up/
Concerned that the face of the party might go off script again, officials within the Republican National Committee implored Donald Trump to limit his Sunday comments on the tragic Orlando shooting to condolences and not mention President Barack Obama.
According to MSNBC, a source within the Republican Party claimed Trump was given the advice which he promptly ignored opening himself up for more criticism for being glib and self-promoting.
The presumptive GOP presidential nominee lasted exactly one tweet, writing Really bad shooting in Orlando. Police investigating possible terrorism. Many people dead and wounded, before reverting back to his normal Twitter persona by promoting himself and lashing out with bigoted comments.
By mid-morning, Trump praised himself with a tone-deaf tweet saying, Appreciate the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism, before challenging President Obama to either call the shooting, radical Islamic terrorism' or resign in disgrace.
Trump Takes "Victory Lap On 50 Bodies"
Trump Uses Chris Christie As ‘Manservant’ To Fetch His McDonald’s
Chris Christie, the sitting governor of New Jersey, has been diminished to an errand boy for Donald Trumps campaign, according to a New Yorker report published online on Monday.
Christie has transformed himself into a sort of manservant, who is constantly with Trump at events, Ryan Lizza wrote in the magazines June 20 issue. Lizza also said one anonymous Republican source told him a friend on Trumps campaign used Snapchat to send him a video of Christie fetching Trumps McDonalds order.
The piece, which traces Republicans coming to terms with Trump as the presumptive nominee, is the latest humiliation for Christie since he became a prominent surrogate for the businessmans campaign.
After appearing on camera with a panicked, deer-in-the-headlights look in his eyes for much of a Super Tuesday press conference with Trump in March, Christie was forced to hold a presser of his own to clarify, No, I wasnt being held hostage.
Court overturns verdict in Ventura defamation case
http://www.startribune.com/court-overturns-ventura-defamation-award/382684251/
The U.S. Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals Monday overturned a jurys decision to award $1.8 million to former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura in a 2014 defamation case.
A three-judge panel threw out the $1.35 million awarded to Ventura for unjust enrichment, saying Minnesota law did not allow a payout in this type of case; and it reversed the $500,000 award for defamation, remanding the case to the district court for a new defamation trial.
The decision was a major victory for the estate of former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who wrote the bestselling memoir that Ventura said defamed him. It was also a victory for news organizations, many of whom filed a brief in support of Kyles estate, urging that the verdict be thrown out.
It was a serious blow to Ventura, the former professional wrestler, who served as governor from 1999 to 2003.
June 16, 1990: Trump throws huge birthday party for himself after defaulting on $43 million payment
On June 16, 1990, the day after Donald Trump missed a $43 million payment on bonds he used to finance Trump Castle, the mogul visited his Atlantic City casino for a blowout celebrating his 44th birthday. The party capped off a day that had started with a pro-Trump rally held by casino employees"Let's stand behind our Donald, because he's the father of our babies," one worker urged the crowd. The rally featured a "professional motivator" to whip up the audience, and one worker presented the tycoon with a gift: an eight-foot-tall "rug portrait" of Trump.
The party at the Castle's Crystal Ballroom was an over-the-top bash with bands, confetti, and a cheering crowd. Robin Leach, the host of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, walked out of a fake Trump Shuttle to act as a hype man before other celebrities showed up in person and onstage. As then-Village Voice reporter Wayne Barrett described in his book, Trump: The Greatest Show on Earth:
Dolly Parton and Elton John appeared on giant screens to wish Donald a happy birthday, with Parton asking to work the Taj instead of her regular Castle gig and promising to charge only $100,000 a show. Joe Piscopo did his Sinatra imitation on the birthday song, followed by a string of Jap gagsoblivious to the presence of several Japanese high rollers in the front rowseven cracking that Atlantic City would be owned by the Japanese if it wasn't for Donald. A George Bush imitator declared Donald should be President...A chorus line in skintight outfits gyrated around chairs singing longingly about Donald's dollars. Then Andrew Dice Clay appeared on another giant screen to thank Donald for the Taj hookers, saying they had stamps on their asses to show they'd had their shots.
Sadly, Barrett couldn't attend the event. He was arrested on his third attempt to get into the ballroom and cover the party. But his research assistant managed to enter the ballroom and cover the festivities.
Slate: Trump’s Response to Orlando Is Exactly What ISIS Wants
http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2016/06/trump_s_response_to_orlando_is_exactly_what_isis_wants.html
Donald Trump says the mass shooting in Orlando, Floridaperpetrated early Sunday morning by an Afghan American whod pledged allegiance to ISISvindicates Trumps hard line against ISIS and terrorism. In a tweet posted Sunday afternoon, Trump gloated that he had been proved right on radical Islamic terrorism. A few hours later, he repeated his call for a ban on Muslims entering the United States. In a statement Sunday evening, Trump argued that 99 percent of Afghans were radical Islamists, that Middle Eastern migrants should be kept out of the United States, and that anyone who refused to say the words Radical Islam in the hours after the Orlando massacre should be disqualified from the presidency.
Trump is a fool. Analysts who see this atrocity as an act of radical Islamic terrorismand who understand radicalism, Islam, and terrorism far better than Trump doessuspect it was inspired by a message from ISIS, issued three weeks ago. This elaborate statement, delivered by ISIS spokesman Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, urged ISIS sympathizers to attack civilians in Europe and the United States during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. It also clarified the groups propaganda and recruitment strategy. Trumps platform of banning Muslims, blocking migrants, and ruthlessly bombing ISIS-held territory fits this strategy perfectly. Hes an ISIS stooge.
The statement from ISIS, released on May 21, exhorts Muslims to terrorize non-Muslims everywhere and to make Ramadan a month of suffering. But this plea comes from a position of weakness. The statement says the whole world has allied and rushed against us, launching 20,000 airstrikes and killing several top ISIS leaders. It pledges, defiantly and expectantly, that ISIS wont quit no matter how much territory it loses.
The worst peril, according to the statement, is emerging from within Islam: Evil scholars are using every form of media to issue fatwas against the mujahidin. These scholars, the statement explains, are promoting moderate interpretations of Islamic mercy. Theyre denouncing terrorism and condemning ISIS fighters as pseudo-Islamic renegades. Theyre instructing Muslims to renounce jihad and expel ISIS from their lands. For pages and pages, the statement goes on, lambasting these scholars and the damage theyre doing to public opinion. Clearly, ISIS sees this as a central threat.
Trump Thinks Asbestos Fears Are a Mob Conspiracy (Asbestos just "got a bad rap," Trump insists)
Believe Donald Trump, folks: There is an anti-asbestos conspiracy. In his 1997 book, The Art of the Comeback, Trump warned America not to buy the crusade against "the greatest fire-proofing material ever used." He claimed the movement to remove asbestosa known carcinogenwas actually the handiwork of the mafia:
I believe that the movement against asbestos was led by the mob, because it was often mob-related companies that would do the asbestos removal. Great pressure was put on politicians, and as usual, the politicians relented. Millions of truckloads of this incredible fire-proofing material were taken to special "dump sites" and asbestos was replaced by materials that were supposedly safe but couldn't hold a candle to asbestos in limiting the ravages of fire.
Trump claimed asbestos is "100 percent safe, once applied," and that it just "got a bad rap." That, unsurprisingly, was a stretch. Asbestos can be safe, but only if it's in perfect condition and not shedding any fibers, which are toxic and can cause cancer. But the Occupational Safety and Health Administration says the asbestos often used in fireproofing will "readily release airborne fibers if disturbed"and that there's "no 'safe' level of asbestos exposure for any type of asbestos fiber."
This isn't the first time Trump has been linked to unsafe work conditions and crooked contractors. Polish construction workers who worked on the construction of Trump Tower sued Trump, with some telling the New York Times that "they often worked in choking clouds of asbestos dust without protective equipment." The contracting company used by Trump hired the Polesundocumented immigrants who were working off the booksat only $4- to $5-an-hour, dramatically less than the wages of union members working on the same site. Some of the workers charged they were paid even less. The case was settled in 1999, but the terms are sealed.
Would it be possible to pin the upcoming GE rules to the top of GD-P?
People aren't reading them. And if they are, they are misinterpreting them.
A thread just got locked in GD-P..."Four days until the end of the Trump posts?"
They were reminded that pro-Trump posts will end, that he's the Republican nominee.
The someone said "It will be the end of the Sanders posts" and I didn't bother to remind them that it's the end of posts promoting Sanders as the nominee, not the end of Sanders.
I've been copying and pasting the relevant parts of your posts here and in "Announcements" (that answer a specific question or assumption) all over the place. I've tried, it didn't work, I give up on that game plan.
I am assuming that the people who are a legitimate part of the community "get it," and maybe it wouldn't make things any better if the guidelines were pinned to the top of GD-P, and maybe it would.
Just a thought.
Remember Cheney's "The danger is we'll get hit again" crap? So does the Donald.
Welcome to the General Election, 2016. Trump has basically latched onto Cheney's fear-mongering, capitalized on the tragedy in Orlando, and is feeding red meat to the base about how much "trouble" we will be in if we don't choose him to keep us "safe," and choose Clinton instead.
Sick, sick crap...but I'm sure that Clinton's team is expecting it and is prepared for it.
It starts with this tweet:
