My prediction...Manafort will be more terrified of the Russians than the rest of his life in prison.

I posted an NYT article earlier today about Tuesday's trial. It has nothing to do with collusion at this point. It's a fraud trial, it's all about where the money went.

I'll make two predictions, when all of the trials are over.

1). If at any point in any of the trials, Manafort has the opportunity to point his finger at the Russians to save his own hide, he'll take the prison sentence. There won't be a single word about Russian wrongdoing that passes his lips. He knows the consequences of loose lips sinking his ship.

2). Trump won't pardon him. He's more terrified of Cohen, and if Cohen flips, there won't be a pardon there either. But I do believe Manafort is on the short list of people that Trump will happily let take the fall. He'll save the pardons for Don Jr. and Jared. All he needs is one "bad guy" to justify pardoning everyone else.

We shall see.

$100K+ Republican donors group has "turned hard on Trump," meeting in Colorado Springs

This weekend, a group of Republicans who have given at least $100,000 per year to conservative causes is meeting in Colorado Springs.

The group has turned hard on Trump, says NBC News reporter Leigh Ann Caldwell.

“They tried to give him the benefit of the doubt after he was elected,” she said. “But now, 18 months, almost two years into his tenure, we’re seeing a marked shift in the tone among this network… they’re not only concerned about the tone of this president… but it’s also his policies, as well.”

Caldwell said the group is angry about trade and tariffs, but also also by Trump’s family seperation policy.

“They call it abhorrent,” she said. “They call it a horrible policy and it doesn’t reflect the ideals of this country.”

Sabato's Crystal Ball: Dem advantage in the House, countdown to 2018 midterms hits 100 day mark

New hope for Democrats as the countdown to the 2018 midterms hits the 100 day mark. Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics, says his latest report has the House tilting toward the Democrats.

Manafort makes history as the subject of "the first trial stemming from charges brought" by Mueller.

WASHINGTON — Paul Manafort, the veteran Republican political operative and lobbyist who helped run President Trump’s 2016 campaign, is scheduled to go to trial on financial fraud charges starting on Tuesday in United States District Court in Alexandria, Va.

The main points to be aware of:

It is the first trial stemming from charges brought by Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel investigating Russia’s interference in the campaign.

Prosecutors have said they do not intend to delve into questions about collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign in this case, which focuses on how Mr. Manafort handled the money he earned working as a consultant in Ukraine.

The trial is expected to last at least three weeks, and a second trial is scheduled to follow starting in September. In that case, Mr. Manafort will face related charges in United States District Court in the District of Columbia.

I can support a merit based immigration system based on the same criteria that allowed the grandpa of @realDonaldTrump to immigrate to America. He came here as a minor, did not speak English & started as a barber. Like many immigrants, he worked hard & achieved the American Dream

A disillusioned Charles Koch slips on his "I really don't care, do U" jacket prior to midterms

Charles Koch says he has ‘regret’ about backing some GOPers: ‘I don’t care’ if Democrats take back the House

On Saturday, a spokesperson for Koch and his brother David, expressed anger at President Donald Trump’s trade war and the divisiveness he has brought to the country, saying it is bad for business.

“The divisiveness of this White House is causing long-term damage,” explained Koch exec Brian Hooks told reporters. “When in order to win on an issue someone else has to lose, it makes it very difficult to unite people and solve the problems in this country. You see that on trade: In order to get to a good place on trade, convince the American people that trade is bad.”

According to Tarini Parti from Buzzfeed News, she asked Koch about the protectionist policies adopted by the Trump administration and whether he regretted backing lawmakers who support them. Koch admitted that in the future he would be “much stricter” about who he donated to and that he planned to hold anyone he backed “accountable.”

Asked if he would support Democrats, Koch replied, “I don’t care what initials are in front of or after somebody’s name,” and that a Democratic majority House was something he could live with.
