Trump not planning for Dem House takeover

https://www.axios.com/2018-midterm-elections-donald-trump-democrats-house-preparation-42015137-a782-4eac-a781-528856dc9c55.html

Trump is already holding frequent rallies in key areas for the midterms, and will travel even more after Labor Day. He relishes the fight, and loves the idea that he'll save the House for Republicans.

Nevertheless, Jonathan Swan says that many administration officials he talks to are downbeat about November. Those with experience in more than one campaign are likely to see saving the House as a 50-50 proposition, at best.

A Trump aide told me: "Prepare for something six months from now? We don't prepare for something that's right in front of us."

Sources close to the Republican congressional leadership said officials have tried to convince Trump that he needs to get ready, but they don't believe the message has gotten through.

Mikey the "C" removes "Personal Attorney to President Donald J. Trump" reference from Twitter

Washington (CNN)Michael Cohen dropped the reference "personal attorney to President Donald J. Trump" from his Twitter biography on Wednesday, days after he spoke to ABC News about his legal situation.

The change on Twitter was not immediately accompanied by a change on his LinkedIn page, where he is described as "Personal Attorney to President Donald J. Trump," and his Twitter account still includes a hyperlink to his LinkedIn page.

Cohen's longtime relationship with Trump has taken on increased importance since the FBI raided him in early April and prosecutors disclosed he had been under criminal investigation for months.

Cohen has admitted to facilitating a hush payment to the porn star Stormy Daniels to keep her silent about her claims of a decade-old affair with Trump, and the President's attorney Rudy Giuliani said in May that Trump had reimbursed Cohen. CNN reported later in May that following Trump's election victory, Cohen pitched himself to major companies as a point man for access to Trump.

July 3, 1973: David Bowie's final performance as "Ziggy Stardust," London's Hammersmith Odeon

Ziggy played guitar for the final time on July 3, 1973.

That was the day David Bowie retired his most famous – and career-defining – alter ego, Ziggy Stardust, after a triumphant sold-out concert at London's Hammersmith Odeon Theatre.

It had been a whirlwind year and a half for Bowie, who released his fifth album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, more than a year before. The tour in support of the record actually began in February 1972, two months after the release of his breakthrough album, Hunky Dory. By the time it wrapped up with a pair of sold-out shows in London 17 months later, Bowie's next album, Aladdin Sane, had been released.

Bowie played around with image before. On his debut album, he was essentially a folk singer stuck between vintage Music Hall and paisley-toned flower-power. But in Ziggy Stardust he created a persona that not only served as the main character of his best album, but also summed up his place in rock history. Ziggy was positively flashy, probably gay and literally out of this world.

I would have had more respect for him if he'd just come out and said. "I was a rich, spoiled kid who was afraid to give up the comforts of home."

W.H. 4th of July Concert HEADLINERS: "two "American Idol" finalists. As in, not actual winners"

The Fourth of July White House concert used to be a sea of stars. For Trump, it’s a drought.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/reliable-source/wp/2018/07/03/the-fourth-of-july-white-house-concert-used-to-be-a-sea-of-stars-for-trump-its-a-drought/?__twitter_impression=true&__twitter_impression=true&noredirect=on&utm_term=.58cd848d573f

Big arena acts such as the Killers, Cedric the Entertainer, Brad Paisley, Pitbull, Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, Janelle Monae and more have performed at the White House’s barbecue, concert and firework viewing party, which is organized by the USO for more than a thousand military troops and their families.

This year, taking the stage will be .?.?. two “American Idol” finalists. As in, not actual winners. Ever heard of Jax? Jonny Brenns? Not ringing a bell? You’re not alone. And there’s also country singer Sara Evans, whose last hit was back when “Lost” was still on the air (that was 2010, for the record, if you can remember that far back).

A-listers turned down the opportunity to perform at President Trump’s inauguration, and Trump was left with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and “America’s Got Talent” contestant (again, not the winner) Jackie Evancho as headliner to belt out the national anthem. With most of Hollywood having stumped for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, the cold shoulder it collectively gave the Trump administration was far from surprising — especially so soon after the upset election. But it seemed possible celebs could eventually come around — after all, playing the White House isn’t such a bad gig. This year, the Hallmark channel is airing the concert, so there is exposure, too. And despite his penchant for starting grade A-list beef on Twitter, Trump has made some friends among the boldface set. Kim Kardashian, anyone?

It seems it is still the case that top musicians fear alienating the chunk of their fan base who find Trump toxic. Since taking the Fourth of July gig, Jax, a pop-rock singer who finished third on “American Idol” in 2015, has faced a social-media backlash. In a recent interview with TMZ, Jax sought to make her decision to play on the White House lawn not about the guy who lives inside. “It’s kinda a really unfortunate thing people can’t separate politics and patriotism,” she said.
