Experts Say Trump's Muslim Ban Would Cripple Immigration System

Source: NBC News

Facing a growing backlash over his dispute with the parents of a Muslim American Army captain killed in Iraq in 2004, Donald Trump has continued to defend his proposal to ban all Muslim immigrants from entering the U.S.

Leaders in both parties have condemned the ban as discriminatory, counterproductive and probably unconstitutional.

There is another major problem with it, however.

A religious ban would be virtually impossible to implement and would cripple the current immigration system, according to more than 20 security and immigration officials surveyed by NBC News for a special report on how the proposal would actually work.

CNN Money: Clinton's Facebook page says 'Sign Up'; Trump's says 'Shop Now'

Clinton's Facebook page says 'Sign Up'; Trump's says 'Shop Now'

by Heather Long @byHeatherLong August 2, 2016: 12:51 PM ET

Most politicians -- including rival Hillary Clinton -- have a big button at the top of their Facebook page that says "Sign Up." Clicking on it takes people to the campaign website so they can enter their email and phone number to get involved.

But that's not what Trump's Facebook page emphasizes.

The big button on his page says: "Shop Now."

When you click on it, it takes you to his campaign store (shop.donaldjtrump.com) where you can purchase "Make America Great Again!" and "Trump Pence 2016" shirts, hats, stickers, buttons, etc. Prices start at $5.

HuffPo: Runaway Trump Train Picks Up Speed As Aides Can’t Grab The Controls

Runaway Trump Train Picks Up Speed As Aides Can’t Grab The Controls

Even longtime Trump friends ― he does have as few, such as former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani ― shake their heads at what they regard as his self-destructive knack for saying awful things at the worst times.

And insiders say Trump’s children ― said to be a moderating influence at times ― have neither the political knowledge nor the clout with their dad to restrain him, assuming that they indeed wanted to.

In all, the world of Republican operatives, insiders and elected officials has concluded ― rather too late in the game ― that Trump is an unmanageable mess who can only win the presidency if Julian Assange, Vladimir Putin or a prosecutor somewhere destroys Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

“This election is going to be decided by outside events,” said a patient but perhaps overly optimistic Trump adviser. “If, that is, we can figure out how to get the candidate to use them.”

Trump University Lawsuit Advances As Judge Curiel Deals Blow To Donald

The fraud allegations and Trump’s racist attacks on the judge have been significant blemishes on Trump’s campaign.

A U.S. judge on Tuesday rejected Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s pretrial bid to win a lawsuit brought by Trump University students who said they were defrauded into signing up for its real-estate seminars.

U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel said in a written ruling that there was a “genuine issue of material fact” as to whether Trump knowingly participated in a scheme to defraud the students.

Curiel said there was extensive evidence Trump had not personally met, interviewed or selected Trump University instructors, though he represented they had been handpicked.

In a July 22 hearing, Curiel tentatively denied the bid by Trump to dismiss the lawsuit in California, one of three over the defunct Trump University venture.
