Ann Coulter issues fatwa on what you can call her, and what she can call others

Ann Coulter claims she’s never hurt by insults — except when you call her the C-word

“I’m Ann Coulter, I’m not going to (curse),” she said. “I have a certain reputation to uphold. So I thought (my jokes) were — well, they were good, and I didn’t see the final. But, you know, cutting down whatever it was to more than three hours to two hours, I mean, to act like — of course, that was an edited production. Do people think reality TV is real?”

Coulter insisted she wasn’t hurt by the jokes, and even singled out singer Jewel’s slams as hilarious, but she didn’t like being called a vile term for female genitalia.

“I didn’t get the gene that makes me care about what other people think,” she said. “I’m much like Trump that way. I don’t really care. They’re just words. I’m of the sticks-and-stones school, and now that I have demonstrated what it’s like to not be a delicate little snowflake with thin skin.”

“I think maybe it’s time for liberals to not start weeping when I say things like ‘retard’ or ‘illegal alien,'” she said. “I listened to ‘Ann Coulter is a C word’ apparently 19 times because somebody counted it up yesterday.”

Tom Brokaw displays mind-boggling, Bill Frist-level, ninja-like medical diagnosis skills

And for those of you who don't remember, Bill "Cat Killer" Frist watched some footage of Terri Schiavo and "rendered his diagnosis" of her condition. Now, following in his mighty footsteps, we have Dr. Tom Brokaw.

BasketOfDeplorablesGate

I guess I could go either way on making a statement about Trump's supporters.

On one hand, she's right, there's nothing she said that's not accurate, except perhaps that the 50% remark isn't 100% accurate (is it 50? 60? 70?, and does that really matter? It's a LOT of them).

On the other hand, it's whacking the hornet's nest, and maybe that's the wisdom behind the remarks. Maybe she has to throw gasoline on what's already there so that Trump explodes with something that won't be quite so easily forgiven.

My response, after looking at all sides of it, was that it was an interesting move. If she were running against Romney or Bush, I doubt she would have referenced their followers at all. But Trump's supporters are delusional and dangerous, just like Trump himself, and the thing that would perhaps serve her campaign the best would be to have the great orange whale expel everything he's got from his blowhole early, just go ballistic, so that he has nothing left.

Do we think that the Donald will lose it during the debates? As long as Clinton continues to refuse to take the bait, my educated guess is "yes." And if he loses his cool in an epic way, it will increase the number of people already concerned about him having access to the nuclear codes.

Things are getting interesting fast.

Jim Bakker's dream: Trump "on a white horse, his beautiful, blond hair flowing in the wind"

Televangelist Jim Bakker has praised Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump describing him in near mythical terms.

“God came to me in a dream last night and showed me Donald Trump riding on a white horse. His beautiful, blond hair was flowing in the wind. And he took his sword and slew a great serpent,” said Bakker on “The Jim Bakker Show.”

Bakker said he interpreted the dream to mean Trump would triumph over Islamic terrorism.

Tweety: Lauer would have appeared "too opinionated" if he’d pressed Trump on Libya

Moderators Challenging Candidates’ Lies Isn’t ‘Opinion.’ It’s Journalism.
MSNBC’s Chris Matthews suggests Matt Lauer would have appeared too opinionated if he’d pressed Donald Trump on Libya.

During a panel discussion after the Wednesday night forum, MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell played a 2011 clip in which Trump said the U.S. “should go in” to Libya and suggested the military expedition would be “very easy and very quick.” (Go to 12:44 in the video below.)

“How do you debate a presidential candidate who took the position we absolutely should go into Libya, go in hard, and now says he never did?” O’Donnell then asked Matthews. “No one’s really had to deal with that in a presidential debate before.”

“Well, you have to call the guy a liar when you do that,” Matthews responded. “That’s the problem. That’s the difficult thing for Matt Lauer to do, because it sounds like an opinion. And you’re not supposed to have opinions in this business.”

Journalists at establishment, non-partisan news organizations understandably want to avoid the perception that they’re biased, or that they’re injecting personal views in a context where they’re expected to be impartial. But in straining for some idealized notion of neutrality, they risk failing at their journalistic obligation to call out candidates when they’re being dishonest.

Fox Settles With Gretchen Carlson For $20m (half as much as they paid Ailes to leave)

Fox Paid Roger Ailes Twice As Much As The Woman He Allegedly Harassed

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/fox-roger-ailes-gretchen-carlson-payout_us_57cee12ce4b02c637c57d8b0

Fox News is rumored to have paid Roger Ailes $40 million in exchange for stepping down from the company’s top post as a result of a slew of sexual harassment allegations.

On Tuesday, news broke that Gretchen Carlson, one of the women who says she was harassed by Ailes, will receive a $20 million settlement. Yes, it’s a gargantuan sum ― but the man accused of carrying out the harassment is walking away with a payout twice as large as his alleged victim.

Carlson also received an apology from 21st Century Fox as part of the settlement.

“During her tenure at Fox News, Gretchen exhibited the highest standards of journalism and professionalism,” the network’s statement read, in part. “We sincerely regret and apologize for the fact that Gretchen was not treated with the respect and dignity that she and all of our colleagues deserve.”

Actor Jon (Big Lebowski "Stay Away From My Lady Friend") Polito dead at 65

Jon Polito, a character actor known for his long association with the Coen Brothers as well as memorable roles on Seinfeld, Modern Family and Homicide: Life on the Streets, died Thursday night, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He was 65. Polito, who was diagnosed with melanoma in 2008 and recently suffered an infection following a surgery, slipped into a coma Sunday and was taken off life support Thursday evening.

Polito's friend, director John McNaughton, also confirmed the actor's death on Facebook. "Very sad to learn that my dear friend and collaborator, Jon Polito has passed away," McNaughton wrote. "He appeared in over 100 films, countless TV episodes and on Broadway. Jon was a born actor and will be deeply missed by his legion of friends, fans, family and of course his long time partner, Darryl Armbruster to whom I send my condolences. R.I.P. old pal."

Born in Philadelphia in 1950, Polito's resume spans more than 200 credits over the past four decades. After winning an Obie in 1980 for his off-Broadway work with Dodger Theatre Company and the BAM Theater Company, Polito segued to both the big and small screens, proving himself to be equally adept at playing tough-talking criminals or bumbling comedic roles.

Polito's association with the Coen Brothers began in 1990 as the rival Italian crime boss Caspar in the duo's gangster classic Miller's Crossing; the following year, Polito appeared in the Coens' Barton Fink. The partnership continued in small but memorable roles in The Hudsucker Proxy, The Big Lebowski and The Man Who Wasn't There.

Trump to build a wall around all teleprompters and then make them pay for it

Tell-It-Like-It-Is Trump Becomes Teleprompter Donald
The GOP nominee is now using the machine he used to scorn, except really badly.
09/01/2016 08:05 pm ET | Updated 8 hours ago

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-teleprompter-speeches_us_57c89561e4b078581f1232f5?

After a full year ridiculing his rival candidates for relying on a teleprompter and finding himself on a shorter leash from his new handlers, the Republican presidential nominee has fully embraced the tool. There is, of course, one key difference: He is bad at it.

“If you’re just going to be staring at a monitor and shouting and gesticulating, then what’s the point?” wondered Aileen Pincus, a public speaking consultant and teleprompter coach based in Washington. “It’s painful.”

Trump’s staff has for months realized that his tendency to wander off topic or unleash personal insults made any effort to deliver a serious address risky. So Trump has, beginning with his speech to a pro-Israel lobbying group in March, resorted to a teleprompter to get through important speeches.

On occasion, Trump also has misread words, sometimes to embarrassing effect. At an Aug. 8 Detroit speech on the economy, he said his ideas would help “titties” like Detroit, rather than cities. On Aug. 24 in Tampa, he said Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton had created a private email server “deliberately, willfully and with pre-medication,” before correcting himself: “premeditation.” And on Wednesday, Trump read “amnesty” – a key trigger word among his hardcore, anti-immigration base – as “amnety.”

Pat Robertson prayed, and God sent Trump, "a man with Solomon-like wisdom to his people"

Several Evangelical Christians have become strong supporters of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. However, televangelist Pat Robertson has compared him to a legendary biblical figure.

“I prayed over it, and God came to me and told me he will send a man with Solomon-like wisdom to his people in their time of need,” said Robertson in an appearance on “The 700 Club.”

Former Rep. Michele Bachmann is also a Trump supporter, although she admitted she first backed Sen. Ted Cruz.

“I also see that at the end of the day God raised up, I believe, Donald Trump who was going to be the nominee in this election,” said Bachmann in an appearance on Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network. “I don’t think God sits things out. He’s a sovereign God. Donald Trump became our nominee. … I think it’s very likely that in the day that we live in, that Donald Trump is the only individual who could win in a General Election of the 17 who ran.”

Videos still not showing up in "Latest Videos" sidebar

http://www.democraticunderground.com/1017399132

Is there some kind of filter on the forum or something in my posts that prevents them from showing up in the "Latest Videos" sidebar? It just happened with the post above, and it happened yesterday. Out of the last three posts I made in V&M, one made it to the sidebar, two didn't.
