SiriusXM Suspends Glenn Beck After Guest Makes Comments About Trump

SiriusXM announced Tuesday that “The Glenn Beck Program” will be suspended from the Patriot Channel “for the coming week,” and that the company is “evaluating its place in our lineup going forward.”

“SiriusXM encourages a diversity of discourse and opinion on our talk programs,” the company said in a statement. “However, comments recently made by a guest on the independently produced Glenn Beck Program, in our judgment, may be reasonably construed by some to have been advocating harm against an individual currently running for office, which we cannot and will not condone.”

Those comments came during an interview Beck conducted last week with the fiction author and conservative commentator Brad Thor. Discussing a potential Donald Trump presidency, Thor lamented that impeachment would likely be off the table.

“If Congress won’t remove him from office, what patriot will step up and do that if, if, he oversteps his mandate as president, his constitutional-granted authority, I should say, as president,” Thor said. “If he oversteps that, how do we get him out of office? And I don’t think there is a legal means available. I think it will be a terrible, terrible position the American people will be in to get Trump out of office because you won’t be able to do it through Congress.”

A few questions about life on DU after GD-P

I read the response to the previous "clamp down" question but I'd like to have a clearer understanding of expectations on this site after GD-P shuts down. I don't know if we're talking about black and white or shades of gray.

Any time there is a major shift in the posting architecture on DU, it is usually accompanied by a Skinner post outlining the changes. So if that is going to happen when GD-P shuts down, all I'm looking for in this post is an affirmation of that, and I'll wait for it.

In black and white terms, what I see is:

1). No Clinton-bashing. If she's the nominee, she's the sole shot at preventing a Trump presidency, and any posts attempting to derail that will not be welcome. I get that. But it is going to be a battle, and Clinton has no small amount of baggage. Whether 100% of it is character assassination or not, if it's not discussed on DU, it's still going to be discussed everywhere else. Will the guidelines be "don't discuss it?" And if the desired end result is to promote a consistently positive spin on Clinton, I don't understand how the "controversies" can even be discussed other than labeling them as unfair attacks, and I don't think any of us know how many of them ARE "unfair." Maybe she did some of those things. Maybe she did none of them. Maybe she did all of them. I just need a clear understanding of what areas of conversation will be "off limits."

2). No Trump supporters, no "I don't like or trust Clinton so I'm voting for Trump." That's pretty much a no-brainer. No pro-Trump posts. No comparing Clinton unfavorably to Trump.

Here are my shades of gray questions.

1). I'm not sure if a "truce" (or whatever we want to call it) on Clinton-bashing implies a reciprocal "truce" on Sanders-bashing. I haven't kept score, I don't know if the head-butting has been 50-50 or 60-40 and I really don't care. And while I respect someone's right to choose their candidate, the level of discourse has been largely in the swamp. I know I'm not giving you any new information here. I would just like to think that "cleaning house" means that, in addition to curtailing Brietbart stories on Clinton, we'll also see an end to threads about Bernie's wife and that effing college. Maybe I'm wrong here, maybe not, that's why I'm asking. If Sanders becomes "fair game" in the event that he is not the nominee. my guess is that the majority of your time is going to be spent tombstoning Sanders supporters who respond. I know the request can be made for civility, but I also see what that request has yielded on the site right now. If Clinton supporters take an endless number of "LOL" and "She won, get over it" victory laps after all is said and done, it's not going to be pretty. My hope is that they will get it out of their system. Maybe they won't, and what is your expectation of Sanders supporters (or people who are "just not that into" Clinton) if it continues? Ignore them? Don't respond? That's the easiest way to avoid conflict, I guess, but kind of kills the power of a site that is founded on discussion.

2). Trump is part of the discussion, that's unavoidable. And while I understand that the focus of discussion on this Website needs to be defeating him in November, what will constitute an "appropriate" Trump post? I'm assuming a post about the Trump University lawsuit is OK. I'm assuming a post about his kicking Clinton's ass in polling (if that happens) is not. I am hoping that you'll spell it out to some degree, and common sense will most likely prevail among DUers who have been around for a while.

I know what you know, and that's the fact that it's not going to be easy. I know that if Clinton becomes the nominee, some Sanders supporters will be either eagerly or reluctantly or somewhere in between "rallying behind" her in an effort to defeat Trump, while others will want no part of it, even if it means a Trump presidency.

If the intention is to have the site become 100% pro-Clinton, discussions are going to be a challenge. My thought all along is that I will probably just not participate in any Clinton threads, and restrict my posts to non-Clinton topics in GD and elsewhere.

I hope you'll view this as an honest query from someone who's been around DU for a while. In addition to my own profile I was "Amerigo Vespucci" for a LONG time. My computer died in October 2013 and with it everything on my hard drive. I never asked you to reinstate me because I didn't remember the email I used to sign up (I have quite a few), so I became Miles Archer. But I have done my best to respect the owners of the site and the protocol for posting, as well as the overall community. That's why I'm asking. Thanks for your time.

20,000 Sanders supporters in Oakland today "not ready to throw their support behind Clinton"

At least 20,000 Bernie Sanders supporters gathered at Oakland's Frank Ogawa Plaza to hear the presidential candidate speak.

This was the second of two Bernie Sanders events in Oakland on Monday, and this one was moved up to avoid being at the same time as the Warriors game.



"If we can win here in California, our largest state, one of our most progressive states, we will go into the Democratic Convention with a great deal of momentum and we will come out with the nomination," he said. "In virtually every state and national poll, we do much better against Trump than does Secretary Clinton."

The math may be against them, but there's no give-up in those here who are feeling the Bern. They're not ready to throw their support behind Hillary Clinton, at least not before the convention.
