The hype created by the showboat football coach ended when they faced a decent team. Oregon makes Colorado looks like a high school team

I have to say, the ESPN Monday Night Countdown crew doesn't measure up to previous years

I really like the entertaining crew they had last year and a few years before that.
I find this new crew very boring and they've failed to capture my interest enough to watch any part of it.

A rapidly closing window:' Major UN report offers sobering assessment of world's climate efforts

The fight to secure a livable future for everyone on Earth requires much more urgent climate action — and only transformational changes will be enough to get back on track. That was the sobering assessment from the technical dialogue of the United Nations’ first-ever “global stocktake,” a critically important process which looks at what countries have done to prevent a climate catastrophe.

As had been widely expected, the U.N. report confirmed the world is currently not on track to meet the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement.

The 2015 accord says that the long-term objective is to ensure global warming stays “well below” 2 degrees Celsius and to “pursue efforts” to limit the temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius — the threshold at which scientists say would avoid the most severe and potentially irreversible climate impacts.

The world has already warmed by around 1.1 degrees Celsius, scientists say, after over a century of burning fossil fuels as well as unequal and unsustainable energy and land use. Indeed, it is this temperature increase that is fueling a series of mind-being extreme weather events around the world.

Donald Trump's Truth Social Might Be Days Away From a Full Collapse as Crucial Deadline Approaches

Donald Trump’s Truth Social has been around since October 2021, but his favorite online place to rant may not be a viable social media platform for much longer. The former president’s pet project after he left the White House was supposed to be a part of a merger with Digital World Acquisition, but the deal hasn’t closed almost two years later, and they have an impending deadline.

It’s what The Washington Post is describing as a “catastrophic threat” because both parties need the deal to close before the rapidly approaching Sept. 8 deadline. An emergency shareholder meeting has been scheduled to try and garner enough votes to get some breathing room for the merger to occur. What makes this issue so pressing is that if they don’t get enough votes, Digital World “will be required by law to liquidate and return $300 million to its shareholders, leaving Trump’s company with nothing from the transaction,” according to the media outlet.

The company was a stockholders’ dream, reaching a peak price of $175, but it is trading at only $14 a share today. It would not only be a financial disaster for Digital World if this merger fails, but it would also be the latest controversy to pile on to Donald Trump’s legal woes. The vote is happening on Tuesday, Sept. 5, so it’s either go time for the two companies, or it will be doomsday for the Sept. 8 deadline.

Of course, Trump Media doesn’t to take any responsibility for this situation and has blamed the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) for their problems. They gave The Washington Post a statement in November 2022 accusing the SEC of “trying to sabotage our merger and harm President Trump for purely political reasons.” If Truth Social does collapse, this might be good news to Elon Musk, who has been dying to get Donald Trump back on X, formerly known as Twitter, on his platform full-time. That day may come sooner than anticipated.

Joe Manchin's Extremely Annoying Political Strategy Is Backfiring

When Manchin announced last week that he is considering leaving the Democratic Party to become an independent, his rationale was hardly difficult to predict. “The brand has become so bad,” he said, drawing on the oft-repeated talking point that the Democrats have lept too far left. In other words—and in contravention of all logic, given the results of the 2022 midterms—Manchin simply cannot in good conscience remain with a party that, in substance and style, provides no room for leaders seeking to appeal to a moderate, bipartisan electorate.

Don’t be fooled. Manchin’s charade is hardly one of principle. It’s one of total desperation.

There are no secrets about Manchin’s political situation at home. After being reelected in 2018 by just 3 percent, in a year in which Democrats vastly outperformed expectations nationally, Manchin has an enormous hill to climb with his reelection looming in 2024. But the West Virginia senator doesn’t seem to have much interest in taking responsibility for the electoral crisis in which he has enmeshed himself. Instead, he’d like us to believe the political forces around him have simply left him no choice: Both sides have drawn too far to the extremes, leaving no political home for the critical mass of centrist West Virginians who sent him to Washington. Hence the need to chart a new path on his own.

In short, Manchin made a bet. He believed he could rely on the support of Democrats and spent nearly all his time trying to appeal to a tiny, if not nonexistent, group of voters who are up for grabs and have no real allegiance to either of the two dominant political parties. It hasn’t worked out the way Manchin anticipated, and this is where he now finds himself—orchestrating a last-ditch, hopeless effort to create a new political reality from thin air.

Trump's legal advisers urge him to cancel press conference to refute Georgia allegations

Former President Donald Trump's promised press conference to refute the allegations in the indictment handed up by the Fulton County District Attorney's Office is now very much in doubt, multiple sources familiar with the matter tell ABC News.

Sources tell ABC News that Trump's legal advisers have told him that holding such a press conference with dubious claims of voter fraud will only complicate his legal problems and some of his attorneys have advised him to cancel it.

Trump announced the planned press conference with a social media post shortly after he and 18 co-defendants were indicted late Monday in Georgia. He said he would present, "A Large, Complex, Detailed but Irrefutable REPORT on the Presidential Election Fraud which took place in Georgia."

Georgia's Republican governor responded to that with his own social media post declaring, "The 2020 election in Georgia was not stolen. For nearly three years now, anyone with evidence of fraud has failed to come forward -- under oath -- and prove anything in a court of law.”

We all knew it would go down like this, didn't we? Trump makes a bold announcement, then a few days later... "Gee, I really wanted to exonerate myself with the best press conference in the history of press conferences, but my lawyers won't let me."

Mike Lindell's Big 'Election Crime' Summit Flops at the Start

MAGA pillow magnate Mike Lindell kicked off his latest “election crime” summit on Wednesday by boasting how the “important” event would once and for all provide a “plan to secure our elections immediately.”

In true Lindell fashion, of course, the event went off the rails in only a matter of minutes, after he mistakenly aired a video of Jimmy Kimmel. "This historical election summit is so important that it’s being broadcast around the world in 85 languages on FrankSpeech.com,” he declared. “This election summit is not going to be about more evidence. We have enough evidence. Evidence has been the easy part. This summit is all about hope and the plan to secure our elections immediately.”

He then directed the audience to the screen to watch a video, only to quickly grow flustered: It was the wrong video, showing Kimmel delivering a monologue. (The late-night host has famously hosted Lindell to roast the MyPillow chief over his conspiracy theories about the 2020 election being “stolen” from Trump.)

“No, no, no. This is the wrong one,” Lindell shouted as the crowd laughed. “This is the wrong one. Hold on. Well, that’s coming!”

Of course, Lindell bumbling during a symposium that offered empty promises of exposing election fraud was ultimately nothing new.
