Is anyone here actually worried at all about Trump?

First of all, I realize Trump is a horrible person, but I fail to see how he is any more horrible than any other republican candidate.

Secondly, he makes the republicans look like laughingstocks. The propagandists at Fox News and "insiders" like Chuck Todd are aghast at Trump's run because he exposes the ridiculousness of conservatives and conservative politicians. They prefer politicians who voice their illogical and disgustingly cruel opinions in a more dignified manner so they can pretend those opinions are reasonable, mainstream positions.

Thirdly, he would be a horrible candidate in a general election if he somehow manages to win the nomination. Hell, Lincoln Chaffee, someone most democrats have never even heard of, would destroy him in a general election. Overall, people hate Trump.

I say good luck to him!!!

Poll: Clinton trails top Republicans in battleground states

Source: CNN.com

In Colorado, Clinton trails Rubio 38%-46%, Bush 36%-41% and Walker 38%-47%.

In Iowa, she trails Rubio 36%-44%, Bush 36%-42% and Walker 37%-45%.

And in Virginia, Clinton has the narrowest margins between her and her Republican opponents, where she lags behind Rubio 41%-43%, Bush 39%-42% and Walker 40%-43%.

The results offered more indications that Clinton has a problem: Voters say they don't trust her.

In Colorado, only 34% of voters said they see Clinton as honest and trustworthy while 62% said they don't. In Iowa, the numbers were 33% to 59% -- a drop from 45% to 47% in April. And in Virginia, Clinton did best, at 39% saying they trust her to 55% saying they don't.

This election is too important to go with a candidate that can't win the battleground states.

It's time to start talking seriously about Clinton's electability problem. Whether that means Bernie Sanders, as I would certainly like, or drafting Biden into the race if you are more of a third-wayer, we cannot put up a candidate that is pretty much hated by the entire right and garners only lukewarm support from many within her own party.

When Hillary Clinton "updates" her positions, how can we be sure they stay that way?

Here is an example of an instance where a strong position against banks in defense of families got thrown out the window just a few years later:

tl;dw: After speaking with Warren, Clinton becomes a champion against a bank sponsored bankruptcy bill in the later days of Bill Clinton's second term and deservedly gets credit for inspiring Bill's veto of the bill. A few years later, as a Senator, she votes for the same bill when it comes back up.

I don't want Bernie Sanders "pulling Clinton left" on the issues for her to jump right back to the other side if she becomes president. I think she should tell people her actual, honest positions on issues, and when I say "actual, honest positions" I mean the way she would act on those issues if she becomes president.

Democratic Underground has it's Hillary Supporters, sure, but the enthusiastic majority of DU posters certainly seems to to be thrilled about Bernie Sanders. In fact, his numbers kind of remind me of another popular guy around here:

If not now, when? 2024?

I've am firmly in the "will vote for Clinton if she beats Sanders" camp, and I could never even consider voting for a republican.

That said, what happens if Clinton does win the nomination? That would mean Clinton runs unopposed in the 2020 primary as an incumbent. So we are looking at either 8 years of Clinton, or 4 years of Clinton and then 4 years of a republican. So, the next chance we would have to elect a true progressive would be 2024.

2024.

Can we wait that long to rid our democracy of the corrupting influence of corporations and too-big-to-fail banks? Would it be too late by then?

How would you feel about Hillary as a running mate?

I'm not a huge Hillary Clinton fan, but she does have a lot of name recognition and seems to be fairly popular with some democrats. Would she make a good running mate for Bernie Sanders, a sort of "unify the party" deal after the primaries? I bet she would be up for it since being VP to a 73 year old president might be her best shot at the presidency.

Yes, Let's Talk About 'Upbringing,' Rudy

http://crooksandliars.com/2015/02/yes-lets-talk-about-upbringing-rudy

Barack Obama's grandfather fought in World War II. Rudy Giuliani's father was barred from military service because he was a felon.

Yeah, maybe Giuliani's right. Maybe we really are formed by the character of the people who raised us.

Interesting article. I recommend reading the whole thing.

More on Obama's family's WWII service (first reference is to his Grandfather):

On D-Day, documents place him at Stoney Cross, England, in the 1830th Ordnance Supply and Maintenance Co., Aviation....

His company supported the 9th Air Force as it prepared for the assault on Normandy and took part in the drive that carried the Allies across France. Dunham and the men of the 1830th came across six weeks after the initial Normandy invasion and followed the front through France....

Madelyn, the beloved grandmother known as "Toot" who helped raise the future president, did her part for the war effort, working the night shift as a supervisor on the B-29 bomber assembly line at the Boeing plant.

Her brother is part of the war story, too. Charles Payne, Obama's great-uncle, in 1945 helped liberate a sub-camp of the Nazi concentration camp at Buchenwald....

Democrats have rarely had a front-runner as dominant as Clinton

[quote]
Clinton’s Lead in Historical Perspective

Since the 1972 campaign -- when the power to choose the party nominees was shifted from national convention delegates to voters in state primaries and caucuses -- Democrats have rarely had a front-runner as dominant as Clinton. In four of eight contested nomination campaigns from 1972 to 2004, no candidate had a lead of 20 points in a Gallup Poll at any point during the year prior to the election. In two other campaigns, this occurred just once during that time.

This is from mid-October, 2007

Just something to keep in mind, seven and a half years later, when people want to consider Clinton's nomination a fait accompli almost two years before the election.
