Timothy Leary once said...

Enlightenment moves from east to west.... when the pope travels to America , it's counter - revelation-ary.

Here are the links..,

The TPP is a part of a larger transnational study of global attitudes relating to America . So you might have to dig deep. Here is the full report:

Here is the report summary :

Down at the bottom are links to the full report and suplimentary material.

As I said, this was a wide ranging study, the summary that focuses on TPP is here:

Finally , here is a summary of American attitudes to "free" trade agreements in general:

Showdown - How the South’s Public Enemy No. 1 climbed onto the Supreme Court

Showdown by Wil Haygood, How the South’s Public Enemy No. 1 climbed onto the Supreme Court

http://wapo.st/1iVmu32

Marshall’s “titanic achievement,” as Haygood reminds us, was the 1954 landmark case Brown v. Board of Education, “which outlawed the separate-but-equal doctrine that had been the law of the land and ordered the desegregation of public schools.” With this, Marshall, already well known, ascended to heights rare in a profession not often seen as producing heroes — lawyer jokes and ambivalence about us abound. The Baltimore-born, Lincoln University and Howard Law School-educated attorney became a hero to millions and remains so to this day.

I haven't read this book, but the review makes it sound interesting.

Hillary Rodham Clinton: Hard Core Liberal . ....

Yep, it's the objective truth based on scientific evidence and beyond any doubt ! Here is the graph to prove it:

Details here:http://www.ontheissues.org/VoteMatch/candidate_map.asp?a1=1&a2=1&a3=1&a4=4&a9=1&a16=5&a10=5&a5=5&a7=4&a8=5&a14=1&a15=2&a17=2&a19=4&a18=4&a6=1&a20=4&a11=1&a12=4&a13=1&i1=1&i2=1&i3=1&i4=1&p=80&e=10&t=21

For comparison , here is Bernie's assesment:

Granted, also a hard core liberal - but what's that shift away from populism and towards libertarianism all about?

The Strategic Victory over Kim Davis....

Putting Kim Davis in jail for her defiance of the court and the rule of law could have been a mistake. She could have become a "martyr for the cause". And simply fining her would not have been a deterrent - she would have still been able to carry on her defiance .

But the judge made a strategic move. By rounding up the other clerks and letting them know they would face the same, by ensuring that there was a significant number that would issue licenses, he nutered her effort.

Since the licenses are being issued the drama of conflict has been eliminated and people will simply lose interest in her and her disposition. The end. Victory!

Operation Chico: I Survived!

Somehow the conversation devolved to civil defense - high/low sirens, fallout shelters, emergency broadcasts and, of course, duck and cover. I related my very vague memories of participating in an early 60s population dispersal excersize. We jumped in the car and drove to improve don't know where, and stayed in a strange home for the night with I don't know who. The landscape , in my memory was barren and desert like. All in all it's had a very low key, benign twilight zone feel to it.

So, my curiosity piqued by my vague memory , I did a little inner webz sluthing and found out that I had been part of Operation Chico:

In 1958 “Operation Chico”, a Civil Defense Exercise, took place. 1,008 people were moved from Solano County to Chico where they boarded with local families for the weekend. The maneuver was practiced because of the fear that an atomic bomb would be dropped in the county because of its strategic location. It was accessible from both Bay area bridges and the site of Travis AFB and the PG&E substation.

I was wrong about the early 60s. It was the late 50s. I was only three at the time. But I do remember it!
