House Speaker John Boehner calls for hearings over Bowe Bergdahl release

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner backed calls on Tuesday for congressional hearings on the decision to swap five Taliban prisoners from the Guantanamo detention center for captured U.S. soldier Bowe Bergdahl.

“The administration has invited serious questions into how this exchange went down and the calculations the White House and relevant agencies made in moving forward without consulting Congress despite assurances it would re-engage with members on both sides of the aisle,” Boehner said in a statement.

Boehner said he joined all Americans in welcoming Bergdahl home, but signaled there will likely be a series of hearings at least in the Republican-led House looking into the circumstances of his release.

Whenever I hear this phrase, I think about:

Those doing hard time for non-violent and minor drug offenses
Creationism being pushed in public schools
Veterans dying while waiting to see a doctor
The gutting of financial regulations
A congress with a singular goal of blocking president Obama any way they can
Republican governors who would rather let their citizens die than expand healthcare
The needs and wants of the super-rich coming before EVERYTHING else
The assault on the environment
The assault on voting rights
The assault on reproductive choice
The assault on science
A space program that is a shell of it's former self
Stagnant wages
Higher education being out of reach for many
The denial of marriage rights to same-sex couples
A middle class that is under attack from the 1%.
The Tea Party. 'nuff said.
Gerrymandering
Roads and bridges falling apart

Does anyone else HATE the sound of leaf blowers?

They give me a fucking headache. Its one of those sounds that just drills into your skull. Plus, the fumes they emit could probably single-handedly melt the ice caps.

Are there any teachers here?

Current or former?

I was curious about how NCLB and standardized testing has affected the way students are taught. I have heard that some states force teachers to "teach to the test" as well as use teaching methods that are state-approved. I am curious if this has killed creativity in the classroom.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: Has testing taken the fun out of teaching? From Reddit:
