Is the commercialization of the internet...

blowing out your screen loading times with ads, popups, and trackers?

There are free ad blocking offerings that shut all that down. They really work - with options to allow ads from sites you want to support, or even allow unobtrusive ads across the board in support.

Do they work?

You bet your ass they do! Just today, as of now, I am at:

'It's a Terrible Vote': Red-State Democrats Face an Agonizing Supreme Court Choice

Whoa. This is getting seriously complicated.

Source: New York Times, by Carl Hulse

Democratic senators running for re-election in Trump Country face an agonizing choice over President Trump’s coming Supreme Court nominee: Vote to confirm the pick and risk demoralizing Democratic voters ahead of the midterm elections, or stick with the party and possibly sacrifice their own seats — and any chance at a Democratic majority in 2019.

The actions of a handful of Senate Democrats struggling to hold their seats in red states where Mr. Trump remains popular — notably Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Joe Donnelly of Indiana and Joe Manchin III of West Virginia — will have broad implications for the party at a critical political juncture.

A decision by one or all of them to try to bolster their standing with Republican-leaning voters in their states by backing the president’s nominee would undermine Democratic leaders as they try to sustain party unity. And if their votes put the president’s choice on the court, it could hasten the move to the left by the party’s aggressive activist core, while intensifying the clamor for new, more confrontational leadership.

But if they hold together on a “no” vote, those senators could not only surrender their own seats, but by expanding the Republican majority, they could also narrow the path of Democrats to a Senate majority for years to come by ceding those states to Republicans.

For the first time, U.S. resettles fewer refugees than the rest of the world

CNN's Jim Acosta

The number of refugees resettled in the United States decreased more than in any other country in 2017, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of new data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). This represents the first time since the adoption of the 1980 U.S. Refugee Act that the U.S. resettled fewer refugees than the rest of the world.

The U.S. has historically led the world in refugee resettlement. Since 1980, the U.S. has taken in 3 million of the more than 4 million refugees resettled worldwide.

U.S. refugee resettlement is on pace to remain at historically low levels in 2018. The Trump administration lowered the refugee ceiling for fiscal 2018 to 45,000 refugees – the lowest cap since the Refugee Act was adopted by Congress. The U.S. has admitted more than 16,000 refugees with about three months remaining in the current fiscal year, according to U.S. State Department data. The number of Muslim refugees admitted to the U.S. has dropped more than other religious groups. (Global refugee resettlement data for 2018 are unavailable.)

Ex-House staffer, subject of conspiracy theories, pleads guilty to bank fraud charge

For those keeping track of the Dotard's lies and fabrications, here's one more.

Source: CNN, by Jessica Schneider

A former House staffer who has been the subject of several tweets by President Donald Trump has struck a plea deal with prosecutors, pleading guilty to making a false statement on a bank loan application during a court appearance in Washington, DC, federal court Tuesday morning.

The government also acknowledged Tuesday there is no basis to claims that Awan stole information from the servers, or the servers themselves. The plea deal says: "The Government has uncovered no evidence that your client violated federal law with respect to the House computer system."

Prosecutors revealed that government investigators had interviewed 40 witnesses in connection with those allegations, had taken custody of the House Democratic caucus server and subsequently "found no evidence (Awan) illegally removed House data from the House network or from House Members' offices ... or improperly accessed or transferred government information, including classified or sensitive information."

Awan's attorney called out the President's statements and tweets in a statement: "My client is not a 'spy,' nor part of a 'spy ring.' There has never been any missing server, smashed hard drives, blackmailed members of Congress, or breach of classified information. This was all made up, for purposes of clickbait, Fox News stories, and political opportunism. And yes, this repugnant behavior went straight to the top, just weeks ago, the President of the United States tweeted again alleging that Imran was responsible for a missing Democratic Party server. Like so many irresponsible, misleading or simply untrue tweets from the President, this allegation displayed a complete lack of respect for law enforcement."
