stone space's JournalWould Zimmerman still get 48% DU support for murder if his name were in the title?
Recently, there was a poll of DUers regarding Zimmerman's murder.
In it, 48% of all DUers who responded supported by plurality all 3 of the following clauses:
(1) Zimmerman broke no laws.
(2) Zimmerman acted reasonably.
(3) Florida laws relating to any of his actions need no changes
Zimmermann broke no current laws, acted reasonably and Florida laws relating to any of his actions need no changes
15 (48%)

But while Zimmerman got a lot of support for his murder in that DU poll, his name was left out of the title, which may have skewed the poll results somewhat, creating a false and misleading impression of what DU is all about.
So, I'll put the the question before the wider DU community:
Remember, to answer "yes" you need to agree with all 3 of the above clauses of support, not just 1 or 2 of them.
Do you support Zimmerman?
Can we pease stop advocating murder in the gungeon?
This is disgusting.

We don't need more dead bodies.
We are telling people to murder anybody who assaults them in any way, and using DU as the platform for doing so.
I've been assaulted many times in my life.
If I followed the advice given in that OP, there'd be lots of dead people around, including dead cops who have assaulted me.
SCLC Suspends Pastor Who Called For Black Families To Arm Themselves Against Police(Religion x-post)
crossposted from Religion: http://www.democraticunderground.com/1218191382
Breitbart News is reporting that Georgia Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) President Sam Mosteller has been suspended from the organization following his call for Black families to exercise their Second Amendment rights by arming themselves against police. In his statement, Mosteller acknowledged that his suggestion went against the SCLC mission of nonviolence, but he felt compelled to tell Black people to protect themselves because no one else is.
During his comments, Mosteller stated, We going to have to do something in our community to let the rest of America know that we are not going to be victimized by just anybody whether it be police or folks that decide that Black people are thugs and we need to control that Black community. We [are] not going to allow that anymore.
The national SCLC office released this statement regarding Mostellars comments:
The Southern Christian Leadership Conference was founded and maintains its [sic] position against violence of ANY type. We are founded on the bedrock of nonviolence and we encourage those principles as we seek social justice and social change in American society and around the world.
Although our organization does concur that the justice system in America has too often failed communities of color, particularly black youth, in reviewing the comments made by the Rev. Mosteller on Wednesday, March 31, we have found that his comments do not represent, nor reflect the principles and position of this organization.
SCLC has said that they are conducting an internal investigation while Mosteller is under an indefinite suspension. In addition, the organization is also demanding that Mosteller complete some internal training.

The Reverend may be confusing the Second Commandment with the Second Amendment. Seems like he's praying to the wrong God.

Op-ed: 'Religious Discrimination' Laws Have Nothing to Do With Religion
http://www.advocate.com/commentary/2015/03/31/op-ed-religious-discrimination-laws-have-nothing-do-religion
The value of religious freedom is paramount in our country thats why its enshrined in our nations Constitution. Let there be no doubt: People of faith and their right to exercise their closely held religious beliefs are fully protected. Most unfortunately, a select group of insidious activists and elected officials is pretending those protections dont exist and is threatening the civil rights of LGBT Americans.
Legislators in states such as Indiana, Arkansas, and Georgia are busy pushing bills that purport to further protect religious believers from the so-called scourge of government intrusion. But these bills arent about religious belief at all: Theyre about discrimination, pure and simple.
snip---------------
We oppose these bills because they seek not to preserve or protect religious believers but to demean and exclude LGBT people, religious minorities, and others who may find themselves standing on the outside looking in.
I have seen discrimination. I have stood inside businesses that would not serve me because of my race, and I have been told that the rights of those business owners were more important than mine. I countered that logic then, as I do now. We have no crisis of religious discrimination; we have a crisis of fear. I stand against these bills and with those who are fighting to stop them. I refuse to allow discrimination to cloak itself in a shroud of faith. I refuse to give into fear.
DR. JULIAN BOND is a civil rights leader and former member of the Georgia legislature. He is the founder and president emeritus of the Southern Poverty Law Center and served as chairman of the NAACP from 1998 to 2010.

I do not cheat my students. To repeat, I do not cheat my students. This is a lie!
I have been accused of cheating my students here on DU.
This is a bald-faced lie, and I just want to set the record straight.
I do not cheat my students, and the mere fact that I disagree with those who support Zimmerman's Gunstalking behavior does not make it true.

The Big Lie The Media Tells About Indiana’s New ‘Religious Freedom’ Law
The Washington Post article largely mirrors the argument advanced by Indiana Governor Mike Pence. Appearing on ABCs This Week, Pence claimed Then state-Sen. Barack Obama voted for [the Religious Freedom Restoration Act]. The very same language.
The same argument is parroted on Fox News and elsewhere.
Its not true.
The Indiana law differs substantially from the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act, signed by President Clinton in 1993, and all other state RFRAs.
There are several important differences in the Indiana bill but the most striking is Section 9. Under that section, a person (which under the law includes not only an individual but also any organization, partnership, LLC, corporation, company, firm, church, religious society, or other entity) whose exercise of religion has been substantially burdened, or is likely to be substantially burdened can use the law as a claim or defense regardless of whether the state or any other governmental entity is a party to the proceeding.

"It's time to Thump the Bible Thumpers with the Bible"
According to actor and Sirius XM radio host John Fugelsang, its time to thump the Bible thumpers with the Bible over Indianas new Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which he says is un-Christian.

Why do some so-called "atheists" consider distroying chuches and mosques...
...a religious value?
As an atheist myself, I'm really having difficulty understanding this.
I can't imagine what could be a more anti-religious value or action.
Please help this atheist understand.
