2. The Keystone XL pipeline: Will she speak up?
3. Dark money: Is she serious about campaign-finance reform?
4. Wall Street: Does she want to crack down or just look radical-ish?
5. LGBT rights: How much does she care, really?
6. Trans-Pacific Partnership: Will she stick by unions?
I am not pissed, I am heartbroken now.
Ok, so some of you know about the ongoing strife between me and my dad and stepmom. http://www.democraticunderground.com/113743559 My dad texted me tonight that I owe them an apology, that I attacked my stepmom, well all that may be true, but she is the one who called our house and told my partner of 20 years that I needed help. Mental help. I was angry, YES ANGRY! And didn't handle it the right way, but I do not need anyone calling Kat and telling her that I need help.
So I text to my dad, "Daddy, I love you with all my heart. But you drove a knife through our hearts when you chose to join a church that wants to kill us. That is no exaggeration. Look it up." http://www.religionnews.com/2014/04/28/conservative-anglican-leaders-back-uganda-anti-gay-law/
His "loving and oh so Christian" response?
"You know nothing about ANGLICAN theology so get informed from a knowlegible (sic) source call me if you want to know the truth otherwise remain ignorant further your liberal democrats kill babies"
Hmm, I responded that yes, I am pro choice and apparently so was his wife. she once told me that I was unwanted and could have been an abortion. This from a so called christian. Aren't they just lovely people? Is it any wonder I have survived into my adulthood even half way sane? There are so many of these kind of people in today's christian right. It is really sad. He is an old sick man. This is really a sad situation, but his true colors are just shining through. What would his Jesus do? Well, I guess republican Jesus would do this, but the Jesus I learned about wouldn't.
I am beyond pissed!
This is a hard situation. My father and my stepmom have on the surface been very gracious to me and my partner of 20 years. They actually helped us get financing for our home and have been nothing but wonderful on the surface to us. But they are republicans. this week I learned that they joined a conservative Anglican church. You know, the one that supported the "kill the gays" bill. Ugh!
Anyhoo, after the law was passed in Indiana where they live part-time, I texted them my disgust that they could vote for and actively support these people. I also texted them that I was very hurt that they chose a church that would support a "kill the gays" bill.
Needless to say, they took offense at this. My stepmom actually called my "not wife" Kat and told her she thought I needed "help". Well, Kat is on the same page as I am! She is disgusted too. My one sister is in agreement with me. She is a wonderful liberal. I texted back to my stepmom that she should just stop calling our house. I told her that SHE was the one that needed help. That to continue voting republican was sick! So, i am ok with this. People need to know that their actions have consequences!
Texas man threatens girlfriend 7 times in a month, then kills her hours after she begs police for he

"Although CCPD records showed incidents between the couple going back to January of 2014 including seven death threats and other incidents last month Calderon repeatedly denied during the interview that he ever threatened Coglaiti or that he slashed her tires.
She likes playing the little mind games too, he remarked. Shes not quite as innocent as she makes it out to be.
After the 37-minute interview with police was over, Calderon was allowed to leave. About 16 hours later, Calderon shot Coglaiti to death in an apartment, and then turned the gun on himself.
At a press conference on Tuesday, CCPD officials said that they did all that they could do to protect Coglaiti under state and federal laws."

Students object as Florida St. Univ. picks Rick Scott’s campaign chair as president
Source: Raw story
TALLAHASSEE Fla. (Reuters) Florida State University on Tuesday selected a powerful state politician to serve as its next president over the loud objections of angry faculty members and students.
John Thrasher, a Republican political veteran and state senator who lacks academic credentials but is chairman of Governor Rick Scotts reelection campaign, was selected by the universitys Board of Trustees.
The 11-2 vote was greeted by a brief, furious outburst from about 50 student protesters, many waving signs with messages like choose an academic and this is OUR university.
Thrasher, 70, is a former state House speaker who once led the Florida Republican Party. He touted his connections and political savvy as the key to raising funds to elevate FSU into a top-tier research university.

Study: Science and religion are not only incompatible, religious areas being left behind
Science and religion just dont co-exist, according to a recent study by economists at Princeton University.
Places with higher levels of religiosity have lower rates of scientific and technical innovation, as measured by patents per capita, said Roland Bénabou, the studys lead author, told Mother Jones.
The researchers used an economic model to explore the relationship between scientific innovation, religious faith, and government power as they formed different regimes.
They identified a secular, European-style regime where religion had very little policy influence and science enjoyed great support; a repressive, theocratic regime where the state and religion suppress science; and an American-style regime where religion and science generally thrived.
