My wife and I need help. Thank you!

I haven't been able to work in almost 3 weeks. Luckily, they have been very understanding.

Remember this gently used car many on DU helped me to get the down-payment?

The engine died while I was driving home from work and I am humbly asking for some help again. This is so embarrassing for me, but here goes:

Wow, the worst year ever. I don't know if you know about what happened last year, but things really went downhill after one of my patients passed away unexpectedly. (Natural causes, not the fault of any nurses. We were totally exonerated.) But, things (money things, thank goodness our health was good.) piled up and the icing on the cake was my Kia Soul also passed away. Many people generously helped us get the funds needed for a down-payment for this used car.

Well, I am sorry to report that the engine in my gorgeous gently used new car went kaphlooey. It was during the Hurricane Debby as I was driving home. I got a lyft home, but because we were in a state of emergency, they towed it off of the interstate almost immediately.

After getting it out of impound ($300.00) I had it towed to the preferred repair shop of the warranty company. Apparently, it is still under Hyundai warranty, I called Hyundai and scheduled an appointment. It is not until Aug. 27th. And it may take up to two weeks to get it repaired. The warranty company does not pay for towing or rides. They reimburse at a small rate.

Meanwhile, not having a credit card, I am unable to rent a car. Well, I did through priceline, but did not read the fine print (my fault) about the $400.00 deposit required. I went to get the car, but did not have enough on my debit card to cover the deposit. So, I lost the $313.92 that I paid out. No refunds. That hurt us badly. 😢

I am having to rely on friends or hire a car to get to work and back. It's hard to find a friend to wake up and take me at 6:00 am. So, it's been uber or lyft. ($60.00 each way)I have missed most of my shifts because of this.

I hate to even do this again. To ask for donation. It's embarrassing, but we are just hanging on and I am out of options. We once again had to get a forbearance on our mortgage. We missed the deadline for eldercare services to help pay the utility bill. The groceries are dwindling and we don't even have a vehicle to go to the local food bank. I have rescue pups and cats to feed.

I am a 62, almost 63 year old nurse. I am employed, but can't get reliably to work and am afraid I will be fired. My wife is a veteran and disabled. We have a house full of rescued pets and trap/neuter/release feral cats that rely on us. This is so hard for me to ask, but please consider a donation.

Thank you, Lara and Kat

This is a continuation of my previous gofundme, so even though it looks like a lot of donations, that went to tge down-payment last February of the Hyundai Santa Fe that is totally out of service.

Officer faces murder charge in shooting of pregnant Black woman who was accused of shoplifting.

Source: AP

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio police officer was indicted Tuesday on murder and other charges in the shooting of Ta’Kiya Young, a 21-year-old pregnant Black mother who was killed after being accused of shoplifting last August.

Young was suspected of stealing bottles of alcohol when Blendon Township police officer Connor Grubb and a fellow officer approached her car. The other officer ordered her out. Instead, she rolled forward toward Grubb, who fired a single bullet through her windshield into her chest. The daughter she was expecting three months later also died.

A Franklin County grand jury indicted Grubb on charges of murder, involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault. He is scheduled to be arraigned in court Wednesday. A warrant for his arrest was issued as part of the indictment.

This poor woman was just allegedly shoplifting and got a death sentence by a cop. Judge, jury and executioner. RIP Ti'Kiya and baby.

Simone Biles: "I Love My Black Job!"

After Simone Biles cemented her status as one of the greatest gymnasts of all time at the Paris Olympics, she took an apparent dig at former President Trump on Friday.

Why it matters: It's one of the few overtly political moments at the Paris Games but underscores Biles' sense of triumph after she drew flak from Trump's now-running mate JD Vance for leaving the Tokyo Olympics to focus on her mental health.

Driving the news: "I love my black job," Biles wrote on X Friday.

She posted the comment in response to another user who had written, "Simone Biles being the GOAT, winning Gold medals and dominating gymnastics is her black job."
It's an apparent dig at Trump's controversial comments earlier this week, telling a roomful of Black journalists that immigrants are taking "Black jobs."
Trump also used similar language about "Black jobs" during his presidential debate against President Biden in June.
The big picture: Biles has won two gold medals at the Paris Games so far and has three events left to go.

Top Chef Alum Shirley Chung Diagnosed with Stage 4 Tongue Cancer: 'I Have a Tough Long Road to Recovery'

The celebrity chef said she opted to keep her tongue after doctors suggested “100% removal” to increase her survival rate

Shirley Chung revealed that she was diagnosed with stage 4 tongue cancer.

On July 26, the Top Chef alum, 47, shared the emotional health update on Instagram, explaining that her diagnosis came after a “series of dental issues,” including her severely biting her tongue and fracturing her tooth, which needed to be extracted.

Initially, it was thought her problems were caused by her grinding her teeth.

“The end of May, ulcers erupted in my mouth and my oral surgeon discovered a hidden tumor under my tongue,” she wrote. “A few days later, I was diagnosed, stage 4 tongue cancer, as cancer cells also spread into my lymph nodes. I was very calm when doctors delivered the news. As a chef, I’ve always thrived under pressure. I was extremely focused on getting all the tests and scans as fast as possible, so I can start on the treatment plans.”

This is so awful! She is such a bright shining person. I wish her the best!!
