Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback will leave that role in favor of a job in the Trump administration, he and the White House announced Wednesday.
Brownback, who turned his state into a massive experiment of tax cuts and privatization (and a failed one at that, many argue), is now one of the least popular governors in the nation, the Kansas City Star noted.
He was tapped by Trump to be ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom, reporting in that role directly to the secretary of state and leading the Office of International Religious Freedom. The post requires Senate confirmation.
On Twitter Wednesday, Brownback said he was honored to serve such an important cause.

And exactly when was this post made up by Congress and the Senate, when have we ever had a religious freedom ambassador, isn't there some blonde trying to get into the Vatican, and when did we become a religious state?
Lets see he bankrupted Kansas, and has for religious freedom, why, doesn't zippy the bankrupt clown first go to Standing Rock and and ask about the Standing Rock Sioux and there religious freedom, being desecrated
GOP Rep. To Media: Your Coverage Forced Trump To Attack Attorney General (VIDEO)
Source: Talking Points Memo
By MATT SHUHAM Published JULY 27, 2017 12:31 PM
Rep. Dave Brat (R-VA) blamed the media on Thursday for forcing, in a bank-shot fashion, President Donald Trumps relentless attacks on his own attorney general.
Brat said the media had fueled the attacks everything short of typing Trumps tweets for him.
In a statement Wednesday on the matter, Brat said Trumps anger at Sessions whose recusal from campaign- and Russian meddling-related matters paved the way for the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller was partially the medias fault.
One thing is for sure: when AG Sessions erred on the side of caution by recusing himself, he never could have foreseen the 24/7 full-throated obsession over Russia by the mainstream media, he wrote. The medias attacks have only escalated since Trumps inauguration. Fake news dominates.

The Sadly Public Last Days Of Charlie Gard
Reprinted with permission from Creators.
Charlie Gards parents were working on the last major decision they will make for him: how he will die. Chris Gard and Connie Yates had given up their fight to secure an effective therapy for their severely brain-damaged 11-month-old baby. Theyve just agreed to have him spend his last days at a hospice.
Most parents in this situation would suffer unrelenting anguish. But the glare of publicity beating down this case has magnified the trauma. Charlie has been turned into an international cause verging on circus.
The staff at Great Ormond Street Hospital, which held that it could not help Charlie, is now receiving death threats. These are people who struggle day in and day out with the stresses of caring for sick and dying children.
Charlies parents condemned the attacks, noting, We too get abuse and have to endure nasty and hurtful remarks on a daily basis. The former antagonists now find themselves victims of warped minds.

On Rikers Island, A Move Toward Reform Causes Trouble
Reprinted with permission from ProPublica.
NEW YORK On Rikers Island, in a cell block for the jails most violent inmates, young men sit for hours, feet shackled to restraint desks.
The school-like desks, outfitted with chains and locks, are located in specialized cell blocks called Enhanced Supervision Housing units. In the most secure levels, inmates who have committed violent infractions caused injury to another inmate or guard, or attempted to stab or slash someone in jail can leave their cells for a minimum of seven hours every day, but must be locked to the desks for much of that time.
Officials said they created the units as a more humane alternative to solitary confinement and that the units helped make Rikers the nations first jail to stop isolating young inmates. But a new report from the New York City Board of Correction suggests they may have traded one problematic practice for another.

When It Comes To John McCain, Some Journalists Will Never, Ever Learn
Reprinted with permission from MediaMatters.
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) voted yesterday to proceed to debate on an unknown Republican health care bill (or bills) written in unprecedented partisan fashion outside of the normal legislative process. Then he stood in the well of the Senate and decried partisanship and legislative hijinks. Many political journalists applauded his words and scoffed at liberals who pointed out the inconsistency with his actions, even generating convoluted, nonsensical explanations that he was setting himself up to oppose the eventual bill. Hours later, McCain proved the liberals right by supporting a proxy vote for a partisan bill written outside of the legislative process that had not been fully reviewed by the Congressional Budget Office.
Its not a coincidence that political reporters missed the story on McCain in their rush to canonize him. Theyve been wrong about him for decades.
Political journalists love to tell the legend of John McCain, the noble, straight-talking maverick who says what he means and means what he says. The reality is much less interesting: McCain is a standard-issue Republican senator with few legislative accomplishments but an immense talent for press relations.

What Sessions Should Tell Trump About Pardons Before Its Too Late
When Donald Trump issued a tweet reminding everyone that as president he has the complete power to pardon, did he mean to suggest that he can pardon himself? Or simply to boast that he can issue pardons without consulting any other authority or facing any consequences?
The impact of Trumps provocative statement along with news accounts suggesting he may issue a flurry of pardons to stonewall special counsel Robert Mueller forced a denial from his lawyer Jay Sekulow. But whatever impulse propels him now, someone ought to tell Trump that while the pardon power is indeed a solo prerogative of his office, it isnt quite absolute. And should he appear to use that power for a corrupt purpose, such as obstruction of justice, he could place himself in serious legal jeopardy. Not only could he be impeached, since the Constitution specifically prohibits pardoning any impeached official, but he might just be criminally prosecuted as well.
If Trump has any doubts about that possibility, he should ask Bill Clinton or James Comey or his own Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
Within weeks after President Clinton pardoned the fugitive oil trader Marc Rich, on his final day in office, that widely denounced decision became the subject of a criminal investigation by the Justice Department. Acting on the premise that Rich might have bribed Clinton by channeling political contributions via his ex-wife Denise, U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White announced the probes launch on February 15, 2001.

Algae are turning Greenland green and thats a problem for sea-level rise
Thanks to global warming, algae are expanding on Greenland, helping to slowly melt the massive island's ice sheet and turning it "green."
The microscopic algae that grow on the Greenland ice sheet are dark, which means they absorb more sunlight and warm up the surface more quickly than white ice, which reflects light.
"More algae means a darker surface, and darker surfaces melt faster," said Martyn Tranter, head of the British research project Black and Bloom, the first group to study the phenomenon.
As this feedback loop continues, the extra warming from increased algae coverage causes a more rapid melting of the ice sheet. That's a problem because if all the ice on Greenland melted, sea levels would rise by as much as 20 feet in spots worldwide, inundating coastal cities.

Senate Parliamentarian Rules "AGE TAX" in Trumpcare violates Byrd Rule Requires 60 votes
Ok folks, Bernie Sanders is on this and hes applying the pressure on Republicans.
Sanders has been a Senator for a long time, so he knows all the Senate rules. Its great we have Sanders experience on our side, so we can tear apart Trumpcare with every Senate procedure available.
Senate Parliamentarian just ruled the "Age Tax" is subject to the Byrd Rule.
Big blow here for the Republicans Trumpcare wealth care plan for America.
The "Age Tax" basically charges older Americans 5 times more under Trumpcare, than what it charges younger individuals. This was a feature in their plan that the AARP was strongly against.
Thats a huge hole in Trumpcare that Republicans will have to overcome. Don't see how they do it, since it basically cripples the plan. This is not over. We must fight!
We can still kill this monstrosity, because Senate rules can cripple it so much it will never have enough votes to pass. Don't lose hope. Fight until the end!
