Graham: Trump is 'going to stop the threat' from North Korea
Source: The Hill
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Wednesday gave a vote of confidence to President Trump's handling of the growing nuclear threat from North Korea.
"President Trump has basically drawn a red line, saying that hell never allow North Korea to have an [intercontinental ballistic missile] that can hit America with a nuclear weapon on top," Graham said on "CBS This Morning."
"Hes not going to let that happen. He's not going to contain the threat, he's going to stop the threat.
The Republican senator, a defense hawk who has at times been critical of Trump, said North Korea's escalating nuclear program could eventually lead to war.
"My belief is we are headed that way unless the world can stop North Korea," Graham said.

Republicans playing defense in August recess
Source: The Hill
Republicans are playing defense as they return to their home states with few signature accomplishments to tout.
GOP lawmakers are facing constituents with an agenda that is months behind schedule and growing frustration with a White House many believe has at times undermined key priorities.
Leadership is pushing back against the notion that their members are failing to make good on years-long campaign pledges. Instead, they want voters to withhold judgment until the end of 2018when the 115th Congress wraps up.
In the latest sign of friction between the two ends of Pennsylvania Avenue, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) described the belief that the GOP-controlled Congress hasnt done anything as extremely irritating.
McConnell attributed the narrative, in part, to unrealistic expectations set by President Trump.
Congress goes on for two years, and part of the reason I think that the story line is that we havent done much is because in part the president and others have set these early time lines, the Senate GOP leader said in Kentucky.

For over 30 years the republicans have been spreading there trickle down concept of BS and blaming the so called government as the problem.
When in fact the people have looked in the mirror and have finally seen who is the problem and it's not them it's a republican that has been blaming them.
And in just the last 8 years they have attacked health care for example, and not done anything of substance on infrastructure. And this country is now into 16 years of a combat situation, that has produced exactly what------------shit in both hands and over 200 million day being spent, while China is making alliances in the region and Africa for the natural resources.
And then when they run into a "#RESISTANCE", they have a majority leader whining about it being "extremely irritating"
Well guess what ass**** (McConnell and any other republicans that are now whining) how does it feel to have shoe on the other foot and shoved up your proverbial ass-------------------loser
Gerrymandering Is Ruining Our Democracy. Will Television News Ever Care?
Reprinted with permission from MediaMatters.
Broadcast and cable news reluctance to talk about gerrymandering, let alone address the outsized impact it has in state and federal elections, has allowed American democracy to quietly become less representative. As movements build behind redistricting reform, the question remains: Will TV news ever care about gerrymandering?
A yearlong Media Matters study found that cable news shows brought up gerrymandering in only five segments between July 1, 2016, and June 30, 2017. During that same time period, broadcast morning news programs and nightly newscasts didnt discuss gerrymandering at all. And this isnt a new trend; for years, media have shown a reluctance to discuss gerrymandering and redistricting. Given the outsized influence partisan and racial gerrymandering has on American democracy, these issues deserve more coverage.
Partisan gerrymandering is not exactly new, but since 2010, Republicans have taken it to a new level. The Associated Press (AP) found that in the 2016 election, gerrymandering helped create the conditions that led to four times as many states with Republican-skewed state House or Assembly districts than Democratic ones. Additionally, among the two dozen most populated states that determine the vast majority of Congress, there were nearly three times as many with Republican-tilted U.S. House districts. As University of Chicago law professor Geoffrey Stone wrote for HuffPost, Although partisan gerrymandering has been with us from the beginning, it is now worse than ever, because computer modeling enables legislators to design districts that almost precisely maximize their political advantage.

Even Some Trump Allies Are Worried About Sinclairs Expansion
Source: National Memo
Reprinted with permission from MediaMatters.
Yesterday was the last day for critics to urge the Federal Communications Commission to stop conservative Sinclair Broadcast Groups proposed acquisition of Tribune Media Company. President Donald Trumps administration, which frequently tries to promote right-wing outlets as part of its war on the mainstream press, has bent over backward in order to reward Sinclair for its favorable coverage, while the merger has drawn criticism from consumer watchdogs like Allied Progress and media consolidation foes like Free Press. But they arent the only ones objecting: Some pro-Trump media companies have also taken sides against the merger because they worry Sinclairs growth will impact their own bottom lines, forcing the administration to choose between its staunchest press allies.
Sinclair is already the nations largest local news provider, thanks to its ownership of 173 broadcast television stations in communities across the country. If its attempt to purchase Tribunes 42 broadcast television stations is approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the result would be a broadcast goliath reaching more than seven in 10 U.S. television households nearly double the audience cap mandated by Congress. The deal would have been unthinkable if Trump-appointed FCC chairman Ajit Pai hadnt rolled back a key Obama administration regulation in April that had prevented Sinclair from further expansion.

Edwin Starr - War (Original Video - 1969)
Lyrics
War, huh, yeah
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
War, huh, yeah
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again, why'all
War, huh, good god
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing, listen to me
Oh, war, I despise
'Cause it means destruction of innocent lives
War means tears to thousands of mothers eyes
When their sons go to fight
And lose their lives
I said, war, huh good god, why'all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing say it again
War, whoa, lord
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing, listen to me
it ain't nothing but a heart-breaker
(War) friend only to the undertaker
Oh, war it's an enemy to all mankind
The point of war blows my mind
War has caused unrest
Within the younger generation
Induction then destruction
Who wants to die, ah, war-huh, good god why'all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it, say it, say it
War, huh
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing listen to me
it ain't nothing but a heart breaker
(War) it's got one friend that's the undertaker
Oh, war, has shattered many a young mans dreams
Made him disabled, bitter and mean
Life is much to short and precious
To spend fighting wars these days
War can't give life
It can only take it away
Oh, war, huh good god why'all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing say it again
whoa, lord
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing listen to me
it ain't nothing but a heart breaker
(War) friend only to the undertaker
Peace, love and understanding
Tell me, is there no place for them today
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But lord knows there's got to be a better way
Oh, war, huh good god why'all
What is it good for you tell me
Say it, say it, say it, say it
huh good god why'all
What is it good for
Stand up and shout it nothing

Landlord troubles: rich San Franciscans in uproar after their private street is sold
Source: The Guardian
For most San Franciscans accustomed to being at the whims of speculators in a soaring real estate market, the arrival of a new landlord is a near certain harbinger of bad news.
But the residents of Presidio Terrace are not most San Franciscans, and its highly unlikely that theyll be crafting desperate Facebook messages seeking an affordable room to rent in Oakland (dog friendly pleeeeease), making plans to move to Los Angeles or living in a box.
Still, in May of this year, the owners of 35 of San Franciscos most exclusive and expensive homes became aware of a decidedly undesirable development: they no longer owned their private street.
Two upstart real estate investors from San Jose, Tina Lam and Michael Cheng, had snapped up the street, the sidewalks and the landscaped islands of Presidio Terrace at a public auction of tax-defaulted properties in April 2015. The pair shelled out $90,582.50 for the plot, and theyre how exploring ways to earn a return on that investment.
