Ethics complaint alleges Ron Johnson used Senate resources for political attacks

The Wisconsin Republican has used his official website and social media accounts to smear his Democratic opponent.
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) is facing another ethics complaint after using his official social media accounts to smear his Democratic opponent, Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes.
The official complaint, sent last Thursday and shared with the American Independent Foundation, was filed by a Wisconsin attorney named Richard Thal. It asks the Senate Select Committee on Ethics to open an investigation into whether Johnson violated federal law and Senate rules by using official Senate resources for campaign purposes.
"In particular, Senator Johnson's official website, as well as Twitter and Facebook accounts posted content advocating for the people of Wisconsin to vote against Senator Johnson's 2022 general election opponent," Thal alleges. "On August 23, 2022, Senator Johnson posted to all three accounts that the 'people of Kenosha are still suffering because of Gov. [Tony] Evers and Lt. Gov. Barnes Lack of leadership.'"

White House warns about GOP plan to put Social Security, Medicare on 'chopping block'

Proposals from Sens. Rick Scott and Ron Johnson would require Congress to repeatedly authorize funding for Social Security and Medicare.
President Joe Biden on Tuesday warned about Republican proposals that would put programs such as Social Security and Medicare at risk of being cut.
During a White House event highlighting ways in which the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act has helped to reduce prescription drug costs for Medicare recipients, Biden said: "Folks, you know, the senator in charge of reelecting the United States senators — Sen. Scott — has proposed the plan where Social Security, Medicare, every five years on the chopping block. It means every five years, you either cut it, reduces, or completely eliminate it — Social Security and Medicare."
As Biden spoke, he held up a copy of the "Rescue America" plan, released in February by Sen. Rick Scott of Florida, chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

The welfare scandal in Mississippi just got worse for a former Mississippi Governor. Instead of needy families in the poorest state in the U.S. getting the funds they need, some of it went to multimillionaire Brett Favre through the Mississippi Department of Human Services.

A former professional wrestler and defendant in the Mississippi welfare scandal is alleging that he personally witnessed Republican Gov. Phil Bryant instruct an appointee to cut welfare funding to a nonprofit because its director supported Democrat Jim Hood in the 2019 governor’s race.
The allegation that Bryant leveraged his control of welfare spending to punish a political opponent comes in a two-year-old federal court filing released Friday after Mississippi Today successfully motioned to unseal the case.

Dog the Bounty Hunter is back, and he made his feelings about Joe Biden clear with a rant during a recent speech, in which he claimed that the president might commit suicide and compared him to Adolf Hitler.
Right Wing Watch first reported on the speech, which occurred this past weekend during the Opening the Heavens Conference in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The conference, which claims to celebrate "the promises of God," featured Dog the Bounty Hunter, real name Duane Chapman, as one of its guest speakers.
Chapman started his speech off by saying that he believed that the GOP would see a massive victory in the midterms, even though a recent poll from FiveThirtyEight said that voters favored Democrats over Republicans in Congress, 45 percent to 43 percent.

Since the FBI raided former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago in August, Americans were reminded that Trump’s former national security adviser, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, and close friend and inaugural committee chairman Tom Barrack negotiated with Saudi Arabia to sell the kingdom the technology to build at least 14 nuclear reactors.
Whistleblowers were alarmed that the kingdom would use the technology for nuclear weapons and alerted Congress to the secret negotiations, resulting in a Congressional investigation. The White House did not cooperate with the investigation or share any requested documents.
But the House Oversight Committee obtained more than 60,000 pages of texts, emails, corporate memos and reports that offered a vivid look at how dangerous the Middle East could have become if the secret negotiations resulted in a sale.

A controversial group of right-wing sheriffs that has spread false claims about voter fraud in the 2020 election and propagated Donald Trump's Big Lie is now vowing to monitor this year's midterm elections through surveillance of drop boxes and a hotline for reporting purported election fraud.
The Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA) supports the far-right fringe belief that under the U.S. Constitution county sheriffs have extensive power that supersedes all other federal, state or local authorities. It has recently partnered up with a Texas nonprofit called True the Vote, which has peddled conspiracy theories about voter fraud. Now the two groups are promising to keep on investigating allegations about a "stolen election" in 2020 and also to police future voting. For election authorities and voting rights advocates, the combination is ominous.
This partnership provides an insight into the role the "constitutional sheriff" movement is playing in sowing doubts about the election process and monitoring how voters cast their ballots. Such efforts amount to voter intimidation and voter suppression in many cases, advocates say.

Imagine being Trump's attorneys and having to clean up after all his conflicting claims -- like the one about declassified documents. Via NBC News:
Donald Trump’s attorneys said in a filing Monday night that they don’t want to disclose to a court-appointed special master which Mar-a-Lago documents they assert the former president may or may not have declassified.
