Source: ABC7 Los Angeles

PICO RIVERA, Calif. (KABC) -- At least 23 people were arrested for failure to disperse at a protest held inside and outside Walmart in Pico Rivera Thursday night.

About 300 protesters gathered near the store in the 8500 block of Washington Boulevard over working conditions and compensation. A sit-down strike was also held inside the store.

The Koch brothers are probably squealing like happy guinea pigs right now.

Soon, they'll have their warm milk, and lay their bloated gray heads on silk covered pillows...smiling, and readying themselves for a new Koch world.

I just hope they are sleeping in their California mansion tonight.
Sweet nightmares you two creeps.

Governor Brown (D) won the Governor reelection in California...

and two propositions he backed in which he spoke in the advertising (1 and 2), got overwhelming wins.
If only we could get the fire in California (no pun intended) to spread throughout the nation.
(edited)...The only thing I don't like is that we may give the Secretary of State position to the GOP.
That's too much power, if you ask me.

Ravens (5-4) 23 - 43 Pittsburgh Steelers (6-3)

I didn't watch the whole game...but I figured the Steelers would win.
I felt the Ravens were playing a tad dirty at the beginning: that sock to Roth's jaw was quite obvious—and three penalties in one down? I've never seen that before! But, I will add that I've never seen three sacks in a row either.

I went for the Steelers, but I think Flacco is brilliant.

Posted this because...I voted, got friends to vote, and now I'm trying to get my mind off Tuesday.

I hate daylight savings time, and losing/gaining an hour of sleep 2x per year.

That's all I want to say.
I wrote my senator and congressperson a few years ago, too.
...and so does my poor dog who doesn't understand why her walks/feeding times have changed.
waaaaaa! I hate it!
...back to your regular scheduled programming.

It's so great when a friend you think is a right-winger, turns out to be on the left.

I have a friend I met through podcasting (so he's kind of a associate/friend); After listening to his show for years, I'd always assumed he was a Republican (he was the co-host, and the host was obviously right-wing—and my friend confirmed this).

I was on FaceBook yesterday, and saw 2 posts: one condemning the Koch brothers, and the other taking a stab at the GOP. I looked over and saw both posts were 'liked' by my podcast friend.

It made me smile: I knew he was too smart to be a GOP'r.

I wrote him and told him I was happy to see he voted on the left; he wrote back that he's always been a blue voter, and sees the GOP as a party for the ultra rich and wacky religious types.

Now, LET'S KEEP THE SENATE!!! (just thought I'd throw that in there).

..and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

I just read that quote from Lincoln, and I really wish it were word-for-word in the constitution.
...so our Supreme Court would be focused on THAT when they make their rulings—not the bullshit money of billionaires and corporations.

After the gym tonight, I stopped by a 7-11 to get something cold to drink...

There was a line of 4 or 5 people, so I took my time looking for something to drink.
When I was done, I walked up to the counter, and the line was gone.
But so was the cashier.
I assumed he went to the restroom so I waited.
...and waited.
...and waited.
"Hello?" I called out.
Then I heard the door rattle, and saw someone outside looking at me confused, and then looking down at a sign on the door.
I walked over to the door, and turned the sign around:
"Closed. Back in 15 minutes."
Woo hoo! All you can eat!
Nah, I didn't touch anything. I was a little perturbed because I hadn't had dinner yet, but considering the surroundings, I didn't worry about starving to death.

I'd always wondered how prisonsers survive in U.S. prisons during heat waves...it sounds awful:

I know prisons aren't supposed to be comfortable, but this sounds life threatening.

Texas inmates sue for relief from prison cells that ‘hold heat in like a parked car’
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2014/06/20/texas-inmates-sue-for-relief-from-prison-cells-that-hold-heat-in-like-a-parked-car/

"Texas prisoners have sued (again) to force the state’s Department of Criminal Justice to bring temperatures in their cells down to 88 degrees or less.

Most people would probably consider the high 80?s to be uncomfortably hot, but the federal lawsuit — filed on behalf of four inmates at a facility that houses ill, geriatric and disabled prisoners — alleges that the status quo is far worse.

According to the suit, filed in Houston this week by the Texas Civil Rights Project and other advocates, the cells at Wallace Pack Unit, near College Station, are so hot “that inmates have resorted to wrapping themselves in damp towels and lying on the concrete floors,” according to Texas Monthly.

Inmates lay towels on the burning hot stainless steel tables to rest their elbows. The walls, also made of metal, trap in hot air like a “parked car.” Some dorm windows are sealed shut; others that do open don’t provide relief from the heat. ..."

CHP Reaches $1.5M Settlement With Woman Seen Being Beaten on Video

Source: KTLA 5 News

The woman who was captured on cellphone video being beaten by a California Highway Patrol officer on the side of a Los Angeles freeway reached a $1.5 million settlement with the department on Wednesday, according to her attorney, Caree Harper.

The settlement includes a provision that the officer involved will resign.

I hope the officer has been—in the least—put on parole. He obviously has anger issues, and a disregard for the well-being of others.
Of course, I wasn't in the courtroom, but watching that video certainly makes me think he could be a danger to the public.
