My conservative Republican voting in-laws surprised me this afternoon.

We had a Zoom call with the family (all in their own homes), and the father started talking about how good Boris Johnson was for telling the UK citizens to stay at home, watch your distance from others, and wear face masks. Then he said, unlike Trump who is telling the country nothing, and also telling them to get back to work. He is very disappointed in Trump.

We'll see what happens. I just can't see them voting blue.

To me, it's very obvious that the GOP is banking on killing people with COVID-19 to win in November.

They are also going after the Post Office to win in November.
And the way they are confiscating PPE, makes me think they will do the same thing should a vaccine arrive before November: only give it to red states, and the rich.

I don't know what can be done, but I sure hope our party has some power to stop this.

Local politics during COVID-19.

I live in Southern California, and often watch the briefings by our governor Newsom at noon, followed by the Los Angeles briefings at 1PM.

It's been amazing watching the local politics, how they are setup and watching them unfold to get needed work done during this pandemic. Then today, Newsom used his power as governor to shut down beaches in Orange County (because over the weekend, thousands of people gathered to the open Orange County beaches during a weekend heat wave). But even when doing this, Newsom spoke with respect to the local mayors, supervisors, health officials, etc.

All that being said, this shows the importance of voting in local elections. I'll admit, I've been pretty bad at that (except judges, I study those). But I will from now on learn to have more interest in local elections.

Oxford scientists say a vaccine may be widely available by September

Source: CBS Evening News

In the global race to find a vaccine, Oxford University just jumped way ahead of the pack. Human testing is already underway, and scientists say they're hopeful a coronavirus vaccine will be widely available by September.

Technology the lab had already developed in previous work on inoculations for other viruses, including a close relative of COVID-19, gave it a head start.

"Well personally, I have a high degree of confidence about this vaccine, because it's technology that I've used before," said Sarah Gilbert, a professor of vaccinology at the university.

Have U.S. conservatives have always been this selfish and heartless?

Watching the Michigan "protests" (and the lack of empathy from both them and RW elected officials) and compiling that with what they are doing in the senate now (that nut in the WH is a whole other topic), made me wonder this.

I now believe they've always hid away their selfish/heartless side, and pull it out when they feel comfortable; then, they hide it again when they realize how they look.

My feeling is that conservatives are not nice people: when there's something to get, it's all about them; and SOME will dole out whatever is leftover...but even then, they'll do it to serve themselves.

Conservatives are TERRIBLE people.

Restaurants are getting creative during the COVID-19 lock-downs...

The L.A. Times has an article about restaurants that are now selling groceries along with their menu items in hopes of keeping business afloat. I thought that was brilliant.

But one of the more creative ideas was told to me tonight: a restaurant in Redondo Beach, California gives a free roll of toilet paper with each to go order.

I love this!!

(and here's the link to the L.A. Times article:

...although, I'm not sure if you need a membership to view).

Nice neighbor, not being nice regarding the virus.

I was taking my dog out for a walk, and I opened the garage door. A neighbor (who loves my dog) was walking by and called her. I told her, "No," and she began walking back to me; Then he walked toward her and called her again and gave her a bear hug.

I had a mask on. He knew I was being wary of the virus, and I told him so. He said, "Oh, it's all so ridiculous."

I pulled my dog away and said, "I'm not being political about this."

What is wrong with people? They can at least respect others who are concerned.
He's actually a nice person, but now I think he's probably a Fox News viewer.

Just because they decide to "drive around without a seat belt," doesn't mean the rest of us have to.

Doesn't it seem like everything Trump is doing of late, is to extend the life of this virus?

Hoarding PPE.
Allowing workers with previous exposure to the virus, to go back to work.
Cutting aid to WHO.

It seems like the GOP and Putin have been brainstorming, and have some evil plans to use this virus to help them win in November—because as of now, if we have honest voting, those bastards are going down hard.

Linda Tripp, whose tapes were pivotal in Clinton impeachment scandal, dies

Source: CNN - Breaking News

Linda Tripp, who secretly recorded her conversations with Monica Lewinsky about the then-intern's relationship with former President Bill Clinton, has died, according to her mother, Inge Carotenuto, and her former attorney, Joseph Murtha.

Tripp had previously been treated for breast cancer.

Tripp, a friend of Lewinsky's at the time, turned the 20 hours of tapes over to special prosecutor Kenneth Starr. The scandal ultimately led to Clinton's impeachment for perjury and obstruction of justice, though he was ultimately acquitted in the Senate.
