I'd like to see former American Apparel CEO Dov Charney enter politics

He is the epitome of the American dream.

He came from Canada to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams, built a company from scratch at age 20, and had many consecutive years of success.

He also managed to keep his clothing factories in the U.S., advocated against slave labor, and donated generously to Democratic politicians.

His downfall was both petty and unfortunate and he should rebuild his legacy in the political realm, where I think he could do a lot of good for America.

Attorney Cuffed To Wall While Trying To Stop Cop From Talking To Client

A San Francisco public defender released video on Wednesday that showed her being handcuffed by police after she tried to stop an officer from questioning one of her clients.

Jami Tillotson told televison station KPIX that she ended up cuffed to a wall for about an hour.

The confrontation began after a man identified as Police Inspector Brian Stansbury in the video attempted to take photos of one of Tillotson's clients. The defense attorney objected and stood in front of her client, despite the officer's protests.

"I'm pretty sure we're OK here," Tillotson said on the video.

"No you're not pretty sure," Stansbury said. "If you continue with this I will arrest you for resisting arrest."

Within a few seconds the cops followed through on the threat and placed Tillotson's hands behind her back and place her in handcuffs.

USA TODAY Columnist: Jail 'anti-vax' parents

Prohibitionist John Finch once said, "Your right to swing your arm leaves off where my right not to have my nose struck begins." For infectious disease, we could reformulate that to: "Your right to be sick ends where my right to be healthy begins."

Measles is perhaps the most infectious human disease. Virus particles can remain in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves. And measles is not a minor infection. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that before widespread vaccination began in 1980, 2.6 million people a year died from measles. About 400 people a day still do.

Put simply, no person has the right to threaten the safety of his community. Like drunken drivers, the unvaccinated pose an imminent danger to others. They pose a lethal threat to the most vulnerable: the immunocompromised, such as HIV or cancer patients, and infants who have yet to receive their vaccines.

Anti-vaccine parents are turning their children into little walking time bombs. They ought to be charged for endangering their children and others.

Putin Announces Plans to Sell More Guns to Africa, Asia and Latin America

Russia is planning to strengthen its presence in the arms dealing market across Asia, Africa and Latin America, according to Russian President Vladimir Putin who addressed members of the Kremlin’s commission for military cooperation with foreign states at the commission’s first annual meeting in Moscow last night.

"Today, new factors and threats necessitate many countries in the world to change their military doctrines and to modernise their national armed forces,” Putin said.

“Russia is going to expand its presence on budding markets such as the Asia-Pacific, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean basin,” Putin added, also telling the committee that Russia will “use its reputation” to leverage deals with new partners.

Andrew Smith from the UK-based NGO Campaigns Against Arms Trade (CAAT) expressed serious concern at the Russian president’s announcement.

"Russia is already a major arms exporter, and has a history of selling weapons to some of the most oppressive regimes in the world, including Syria and Iran,” he said.

“If Putin is looking to expand sales into Africa, Latin America and Asia then there is little reason n to think this will improve. Arms sales do not just provide military support for abusive regimes, they also send a sign of political support,” Smith added.

How creative are you? Study shows culture impacts creativity

With the "creative class" on the rise, many businesses are trying to capitalize on imagination and innovation. But when it comes to creative juices, some societies have a faster flow than others. That's because, as new research from Concordia University suggests, creativity is tied to culture.

The study, recently published in the Journal of Business Research, compared nearly 300 individuals from Taiwan, a collectivist society, and Canada, a more individualistic country. Results show that those from individualist societies generate a greater number of ideas as compared to their collectivist counterparts - though the cultures were on nearly equal footing when it came to the quality of that creative output.

Gad Saad, a professor at Concordia's John Molson School of Business, co-authored the study with Concordia graduate student Louis Ho and Mark Cleveland from the University of Western Ontario. They theorized that where a country falls on the individualism vs. collectivism continuum would affect the creative juices that might be "permitted" to flow from members of a particular culture.

"The study largely supported our hypotheses," Saad says. "We found that the individualists came up with many more ideas. They also uttered more negative statements—and those statements were more strongly negative. The Canadian group also displayed greater overconfidence than their Taiwanese counterparts."

But when it came to the quality of ideas produced, the collectivists scored marginally higher than the individualists.

Congressman: Hillary Clinton agrees to testify to House's Benghazi panel

Washington (CNN)Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has agreed to testify to the House's select committee investigating Benghazi, the panel's Democratic ranking member told CNN on Tuesday.

Rep. Elijah Cummings said that Clinton agreed to testify before the committee investigating the 2012 terrorist attack in December after he contacted her months earlier.

"The chairman asked me back in September to inquire as to whether Secretary Clinton would testify," Cummings said. "She immediately said she would and that she wanted to come in December, but if December did not work, she would come in January. She said I'll do it, period. The fact is she was very clear. She did not hesitate for one second."

The U.S. consulate in Libya was attacked on Sept. 11, 2012. Four Americans, including the U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens, were killed. Initially, the attack was thought to be perpetrated by an angry mob responding to a video made in the U.S. which mocked Islam and the Prophet Mohammed, but was later determined to be a terrorist attack.

A spokesman for Clinton has not yet responded to a request for comment.
