Change the Frame, capture the Narrative (useful read)

Truthout just published an interview with G Lakoff.
He's a guru of political message "framing" and cognitive linguistics.
The interview has some useful pointers worth considering.

How can progressives successfully respond to a use of fear
since 9/11 to manipulate the public?

Progressives constantly ask how to "respond" to illegitimate claims
by conservatives, whether about fear or anything else.
That is because conservatives have an effective communication system
and progressives do not, and conservative marketers better understand real reason.
To deal with illegitimate fears, you don’t wait till you have to respond.

You need
(1) to build an effective communication system,
(2) to communicate the general progressive value system,
(3) repeat the truths that reveal what is right about those values,
(4) act with courage to promote the sense of courage, confidence
and hope that allows the truth to be meaningful and powerful.

Within such a context, one can honestly and openly discuss the facts
that undermine such fears, so that the illegitimate fears don’t get
established in the first place.

ACA, LIES, Gruber, Pelosi, Obama

Why did the Democrats knowingly LIE
to all of us regarding the ACA?
This is a BIG EFFin deal if you
believe in responsible Govt.!

We DO NEED affordable Healthcare
NOT "access" to insurance that may or may not
provide coverage?

John Stewart DEMOLISHES the lies

What are the PROBLEMS Populists want to fix?

There seems to be enough talk of "policy".
Possibly too much.

Focusing on "fixing" existing problems is
still constraining ideas within the current narrative
and ideological frames.

It seems that it may serve the "problem solving"
process better to examine the systemic issues
that created the current problems.

Forget band-aiding a broken system...
What are the systemic problems that a populists MUST confront?

Quote Einstein:
We cannot solve our problems with
the same thinking we used when we created them.

Are POLLS reliable these days?

Could I get some thoughts on the validity of POLLS?

I keep hearing folks say so-n-so is leading in the polls.
Or, polls show America leans one way or another.

I've has a statistics course or two so I understand the results...
But the fact that most polls are land-line phones, and rarely
include geographical data, I wonder if a poll of 500 or 1000
people has any bearing or what the MAJORITY of people think?
And lastly, most people I know hang up on cold callers.
So does that mean the people who DO complete poll questions
are not representative of the majority?
