PHOENIX Jane Sanders on Sunday came to Arizona to meet with families who have been victims of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaios discriminatory and unconstitutional law enforcement practices.
Sanders went with immigrant rights leaders to witness directly the conditions in which people are inhumanely treated in the infamous tent city jail. Planning to view the conditions through the fence, Sanders was surprised when Arpaio came over and told them that they could go inside.
Sanders used the opportunity to question Arpaio about racial profiling and his use of civilians to detain people who are undocumented. She questioned the inhumane treatment of prisoners who have to live outside under temperatures that can reach over 130 degrees., a charge he did not deny, saying they were prisoners. He bragged about removing meat from all their meals and having chain gangs.
A federal court has found that Arpaio relied on racial profiling and illegal detention to target Latinos and immigrants.
What I saw and heard firsthand today by visiting with the families and seeing tent city was very disturbing, Sanders said. Sheriff Arpaio did not even attempt to explain or excuse his inhumane treatment of people of color not that he could. That kind of attitude toward our fellow human beings is completely unacceptable, especially in elected officials and those who would seek public office. We all need to stand up and put an end to these egregious human rights abuses. Today only solidified the need for comprehensive immigration and criminal justice reform I know that as president Bernie would do just that and keep families safe.
After witnessing the jail conditions, Sanders met with the children of immigrant families, including Katherine Figueroa, 15, whose parents were arrested and imprisoned in Arpaios jail just for working to provide for their family. Katherine saw her parents on television in handcuffs as they were arrested by Arpaios officers.
No family should have to endure what these families have, Sanders concluded. Their plight can no longer be ignored.

Does anybody else think Hillary's million dollar speaking fees were basically legal bribes?
I don't want to sound crazy here but...
It just seems kind of fishy that all these big companies who need government protection are paying millions directly to powerful politicians.
It's protection money right? If they don't pay then they might get regulated in a much bigger way right?
Math: How many superdelegates would have to switch sides to neutralize Hillary's advantage?
How many superdelegates would have to switch sides to neutralize Hillary's advantage with superdelegates?
===============
There are 712 total superdelegates.
A candidate would need 356 for half the superdelegates. This would neutralize the effect of superdelegates because each candidate would have the same amount.
26 are currently for Sanders.
467 are currently for Clinton.
245 still on the table.
(source)
=================
To be overly simple, let's assume all 245 uncommitteds go to Bernie.
So then we would have
26 + 245 = 271.
356-271 = 85. So in that scenario, only 85 superdelegates would have to switch sides in order to completely neutralize Hillary's current advantage with superdelegates.
It's not at all hard to imagine 85 or even 150 superdelegates switching sides if Bernie came into the convention with a lead in popular delegates. He's not likely to pick up all 245 supers that are still on the table, but it's worth considering this as a baseline number. And also it's possible those 245 supers are not super comfortable with the idea of Clinton because otherwise they might have already endorsed her.
We have learned from previous math (Math1 | piechart) that Bernie is still the underdog, but he he could still win if he does well in the next couple weeks and changes the national momentum. He would need to win about 58% of remaining pledged delegates from here on out in order to roll into the convention with at least 2026 pledged delegates, which would put him in the lead for pledged delegates, which would position him well to pick up the needed superdelegates in the time between the last primary and the convention.
The importance of Hillary's superdelegate advantage is being exaggerated by the Clinton campaign and by the media. That lead could fall apart pretty quickly if Bernie reached 2026 pledged delegates.
tldr: about a 100
Today's meme from Hillary's crew: Bernie is trying to STEAL the election with Superdelegates!@11!!!
Hillary has a huge lead with super delegates, party bigwigs whose vote equals 10,000 normal person votes.
Bernie would need to win some over to get the nomination.
Hilary's crew has been pushing a lame talking point all day claiming for Bernie to get some superdelegates would make him a hypocrite, or show he is trying to steal the election.
So stupid.
DNC Vice Chair: Bernie Sanders "extremely disgraceful" for stating the obvious
https://twitter.com/donnabrazile/status/709582115843805186
Everyone knows independent candidates don't get media coverage or money and risk being a spoiler candidate.
Sanders has repeatedly said these are his reasons for running in the Democratic primary process. And Donna Brazile knows that. Her fake outrage makes it clear that she never was neutral, and the DNC is not neutral, that the DNC favors Hillary Clinton. Which we all knew anyway. It also shows how much the Democrats' political establishment resents the idea of a grass roots progressive challenge.
Pie Chart: Delegates won as of March 16

My take: Bernie still the underdog but attempts to mute vigorous campaigning are premature and anti-democratic.
Trump militia forms to ‘forcefully protect’ rally goers against ‘far-left agitators’
In recent days, violence at Trumps rallies has escalated to match the candidates rhetoric. Last week, a man in North Carolina was charged with assault after he sucker-punched a black man. And on Saturday, police in Kansas City pepper-sprayed protesters outside of a Trump event.
Hours after a protester rushed the stage at Trumps Dayton rally, a Twitter group called The Lions Guard called on supporters of the GOP front-runner to join a make-shift militia, according to RT.
Do you want to provide security protection to innocent people who are subject to harassment and assault by Far-left agitators? Lions Guard asked in a call to action. If so, you are welcome to join. Thats the mission to protect innocents who cant hire their own security guards.

This guy is very optimistic and explains his reasons.
Delegate Math: Where we stand as of March 14. It's closer than you might think.
This does not include super delegates. Those can switch at any time. They are not allocated until the national convention.
It's quite possible the superdelegates will align with the winner of the pledged delegates. If at least half the super delegates align to the winner of the pledged delegates, it will neutralize the effect of super delegates.
These numbers are from Real Clear Politics delegate count. Bernie would need to win about 53% or 54% of remaining delegates to win a majority of the pledged delegates. Some people are being misleading and reporting that Bernie needs very large wins, because they are including super delegates in their math.
There are 4051 total pledged delegates
As of March 14...
Bernie has 542 delegates
Hillary has 748 delegates
He would need to reach 2026 to win a majority of delegates. Because 4051/2 = 2025.5
2026-542 = 1484. So Bernie needs 1484 more delegates to win a majority.
There are 2761 delegates still left available in states that have not voted. Because 4051 - (542+748) = 2761.
1484/2761 = .5337
Which is about 53%.
So Bernie needs to win about 53 or 54 percent of remaining delegates to get a majority.

Exonerated death row inmate: Clinton wrong on death penalty
By Ricky Jackson
I said last night that I was "satisfied" with Clinton's answer, but that does not mean I agree with her. While I respect her opinion and her honesty, I completely disagree with her position on the death penalty.
...
When I asked Clinton why she still supports the death penalty, she said she supported it only for the worst of the worst: those who committed acts of mass killing or terrorism. I cannot accept that.
In cases such as those, the societal pressure to convict is at its highest. And when an intense pressure to convict is present, that is when the risk of convicting an innocent is greatest.
The death penalty is also not a deterrent in terrorism cases. In fact, death can serve the purpose of many terrorists who wish to become "martyrs" for their cause.
...
The fact that Clinton continues to hang on to this antiquated relic confuses me. She touts "criminal justice reform" -- and much reform is needed -- but she misses one of the lowest hanging pieces of fruit.
I said last night that I am an "undecided" voter. I hope that Clinton reconsiders her position on capital punishment before I do what I have been waiting my entire life to do: cast my first presidential vote as a free and vindicated man.
