Growing up in Kentucky I certainly was exposed to the sentiment that the Confederate soldiers were fighting to protect their state’s sovereignty and way of life. There was little or no argument made that the brave men in gray were fighting to preserve slavery. Family lore told me that I had ancestors on both sides of the war, but I am certain there were no slave owners among them. The romantic myth of the “Noble Cause” was strong and enduring.
Many years ago I realized that the stain of slavery had to be recognized if this country was to pursue the lofty goals and principles of our Declaration of Independence. I was at a Honors banquet in college and had the good fortune to be seated next to a distinguished Federal judge. At the time in Lexington there was a,social organization known as the Civil War Roundtable. I asked the judge if he was a member. I will never forget his response. He said that he couldn’t take part in such a club because he considered the Civil War to be a dark period in our history and was not a subject of which we could be proud. He was a wise Southern gentleman and a true American.

It appears to me that Trump believes racial strife is his best hope of re-election. He is hoping to stir up the white supremacists by igniting a response from African Americans. Shameful on his part and shame on the Republican Party, the party of Lincoln?

Every person marching throughout the country should maintain the enthusiasm and GOTV to remove Trump in November. I hope there will be organized marches this fall including a massive demonstration on the Capitol mall

Would they prefer that he play golf or go to the beach. He doesn’t need to travel to battleground states for phony photo ops. He is not yet in office so he doesn’t have to make public appearances
Why was Trump being interviewed by NBC during a golf tournament?
I know that almost all members of the PGA tour are Republicans but a lot of viewers are not. I will have to think twice whether to watch golf on NBC if they are providing a forum for the orange fat ass

Because all the REAL men and REAL patriots were carrying their weapons in battle against Nazis in Europe and the Japanese imperialists in the Pacific. During a real war, people suffered on the home front for years. I’m not denying that too many people are having a hard time during this epidemic, but the thugs who are brandishing guns in the state capitals are not helping in the “war” against Covid19
