After Citizens United the truth is irrelevant in political campaigns
After being besieged by an avalanche of lies in Rethug commercials I am convinced that truth in campaign ads is a thing of the past. The mega donors and their PACs, like the faux president, create their own reality. Lie about the opponent's record and character while denying that you voted directly opposite of your campaign promises is standard Rethug fare.
And this is the guy who says athletes who do not stand for the anthem are not patriotic?
And wants to throw them out of the country. Would he rather have them pledge allegiance to the Russian flag?
Has anyone else lost interest in celebrating the 4th?
In light of where this country is now and the direction that it is heading, I can only be depressed. What do we have to be proud? We have an embarrassing clown installed in the Whitehouse, a Congress that has been bought by special interests and is determined to appease the racial and religious bigots. We are no longer an inspiration to the world, rather our oldest friends and allies are fearful of what we might do next in pursuing the MAGA agenda. As a lifelong student of US history, I can only be sad on the 4th of July.
Bill Clinton's neighbor may have provided the answer to Trumps election
On CBS Sunday Morning Bill Clinton talked about one of his neighbors who displays a "Lock Her Up" sign in his window. The neighbor told Clinton that Obama and Hilary started the second civil war. I believe that Putin perceived the division in this country a result of Obama's election and seized the opportunity to promote the racist, birther, misogynist Trump to stoke the fires of discontent among the wing nuts. What better way to defeat this country than from within? I have said for some time that Obama's election will, in the future be viewed either as a great step forward or the beginning of the decline of our democracy.
