Friends here in KL I made in my first week.

My landlords are ethnic Malay muslims.

The three teachers in my department are Hindus from India. Two are married and I didn't even have to ask.

The friends I have made are a Jordanian Muslim, a Yemenese Muslim, an Egyptian Muslim and an Indonesian Muslim. Tonight I meet with them a Muslim Bangladeshi runway model.

And, to the surprise of no one with a brain, none of them are ISIS, Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda and none hate me for being Jewish.

Who woulda thunk, right?

First week in Malaysia - An expat's DU journal

Welcome to my journal. I was requested, when I first announced in the lounge I got a job in Kuala Lumpur, to write and send photos. I'll start with writing. How did my first week go?

Well, my school is awesome. Selective private schools are the best. The students looked at me funny when I spoke fluent Mandarin, sometimes better than the Malay Chinese.

1: Coconuts cost less than $1. Nothing better on a hot November day (yes, I said hot) than ice cold coconut milk straight out of the coconut.

2: Food here is amazing and cheap. And it's all Haalal, which is good for someone who keeps kosher.

3: Rain, rain and more downpours. Did I mention rain?

4: It take a few days to get used to seeing all the Muslim head dress. Next time some cocksucker in the States says "all Muslims are. . .," tell them about Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and the Hui Chinese Muslims. Then punch the motherfucker for being a racist turd. Don't forget Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, East Timor and the massive Muslim minorities in Singapore and southern Thailand.

5: Obama was here and it screwed up the city. Roads were closed. It was a mess.

6: I went to a bar on the 33rd floor of a fancy hotel. It had a pool in the middle and it rained while I was swimming and drinking.

7: Coffee here is cheap and good.

8: The school is interviewing my wife for an elementary position, so both of us may be working in the same place starting in February.

9: Finally, schools here start in January and end in November. I teach nine classes a week, but am in administration so I have those duties. But the fun is I only teach 167 days a year, not including 23 testing days. I have so many holiday days it's great! And it's a 12 month contract with bonuses.

Enjoying life here.

‘I’m not comfortable flying with un-American bigots’: Twitter hammers Southwest Airlines

Days after news broke that two men were barred from boarding an airplane because a fellow passenger was afraid to fly with them after hearing the two speaking Arabic, people on Twitter lashed out against Southwest Airlines for the incident. The two men, Maher Khalil and Anas Ayyad, said they were profiled in Chicago’s Midway airport Wednesday trying to get to Philadelphia, WCAU-TV, Philadelphia, reported.

Both men are originally from Palestine, moving to the United States about 15 years ago. Trying to leave Chicago after visiting family, they were stopped at the gate and told apologetically by a gate agent they weren’t allowed on board.

Assholes on parade

My wife is a Chinese national. Americans are shitting their pants over the Chinese too. I wonder if this will happen to her on her puddle jumper flight to LA the day she goes back to home. After all, she isn't a white Christian Murikan. God damn, my country sucks these days.

How many white people will rally around and support taking on the extremists in Mali

I mean, there were crickets when it happened in Kenya last year, Nigeria since 2009 and Beirut last week. Except some dumbass hashtag that did little to "bring our girls back."

I guess only white lives matter. Oh, I'm white too.

So, apparently the ASEAN conference is happening about 2 KM from my apartment

here in Petaling Jaya. Woo hoo. The traffic is so screwed here.

You know how hard it is to convince people that just because I'm American, I do not have unfettered access to President Obama.

If I see him (unlikely), I'll try to get a photo.

How to deal with racist asshole

My wife is called lots of nasty things in her language by others from her country. She is a whore, a race traitor and a hates her country for marrying me.

I found that the best way to deal with a racist asshole is to go so far below the belt you are actively digging up ground.

A week from day, I head to Selangor in Malaysia to start my new job

I am the Dean of Humanities at an International private school near Kuala Lumpur.

This will be my second jaunt into Asia, after being in East Asia, now it's Southeast Asia.

Other than the job, the best part is I am no more than a 2.5 hour flight to some of the best beaches in the world (Bali, Phuket, Krabi, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Maledives) and 90 minutes from Bangkok and Singapore!

Luckily, I speak fluent Mandarin and Cantonese, so hopefully picking up Bahasa won't be too hard, as it will be my 6th language.

The reason for such venom at Bernie and his supporters from HRC fans

Keep in mind that even though I support Bernie in the primary, if Hillary is the candidate, she has my vote.

Now, onto the post:

Probably the biggest reason why HRC supporters and surrogates, even those here at DU, attack Bernie with everyone from calling him a fascist, a sexist, a racist, a hypocrite, etc. is because they saw an upstart candidate in 2008 overtake her, win the nomination and then win the general twice.

That sting is still fresh. They see Bernie doing the same thing Obama did and don't want their horse falling down like she did to Obama. Losing to Barack Obama was very painful, so every weapon in the book is needed and being used to attack and destroy another Democrat so the coronation can begin as scheduled.

I expect to get attack mercilessly for this post and even having it sent to a jury, but this is just one man's opinion based on watching politics for 25 years and tracking it for even longer.

About Feeling the Bern

Principle before party is my belief. Lifelong Democrat, but I have no tolerance for blue dogs, tepid centrists, or weak Democrats that feel apologetic to Republicans. The way to win a political war is to fight the enemy using their tactics against them.
