Democrats Biggest Donor Demands Candidates Pledge to Impeach Trump
Source: New York Magazine / Daily Intelligencer
Tom Steyer was the single biggest liberal donor in Americas last two federal elections. In 2016 alone, the billionaire investor plowed more than $91 million into the coffers of Democratic candidates often on the condition that said candidates were willing to pledge their support for an ambitious agenda to combat climate change.
But Democrats who want Steyers money in 2018 will need to promise to take radical action against a very different threat to humanity the presidency of Donald J. Trump.
In a letter to the Democratic Partys congressional offices, and House and Senate campaign committees, Steyer argued that Trump presents a clear and present danger to the republic, and called on candidates to make your position clear so that Democratic voters who are under constant attack by this administration, know their elected representatives have the patriotism and political courage to stand up and take action.
In the letter, which was obtained by the New York Times, Steyer referenced Republican senator Bob Corkers recent claim that Trumps advisers have to prevent him from taking destructive actions on a regular basis, and that the presidents impulsiveness could spark an unnecessary world war. Steyer further argued that Trumps ties to Russia, and his shameless use of the presidency to promote his business interests, would also constitute grounds for removing him from office.

Removing President Turd
We're all becoming legal scholars these days as the nation tries to figure out how to survive. Lots of numbers being thrown around; thought I'd summarize a theme (in numerical order). Odds right now (even according to his Neonazi pal Bannon) are that the 25th amendment, rather than impeachment, will be Turd's downfall. Failing that, I think eventually one of his nutjob followers will be disaffected enough to attempt a 2nd Amendment solution.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. China Approves New Trump-Branded Massage Parlors, Bars and Escort Services: Report

A raft of trademarks raises more questions about the president's possible violation of the Emoluments Clause.
By Jacob Sugarman / AlterNet March 8, 2017
China's State Administration for Industry and Commerce has granted preliminary approval on 38 Trump trademarks for a raft of businesses including branded spa, massage and escort services, the Associated Press reports. All but three are in the president's name. Other Trump trademarks include golf clubs, hotels, insurance, finance and real estate companies, restaurants, bars and bodyguard services, although the AP is careful to note "it's unclear whether any such businesses will actually materialize in China."
Trump has called China the "grand champions" of currency manipulation and recently sparked an international incident when he declined to acknowledge the country's one-state policy, a course he has since reversed.
The AP report fuels further speculation that the president may violate the Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution, which prevents public officials from accepting gifts or titles from a foreign state without the consent of Congress.
"A routine trademark, patent or copyright from a foreign government is likely not an unconstitutiunal emolument," says Richard Painter, who served as chief ethics lawyer for George W. Bush. "But with so many trademarks being granted over such a short time period, the question arises as to whether there is an accomodation in at least some of them."

How long before Trump is "Out Like Flynn?"
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-newsnow-flynn-idUSKBN15T1GETuesday Morning Briefing: Out like Flynn
Digits of the day: 24 - That's the number of days into the Trump administration before the first top-level resignation. The person was Michael Flynn. The post was national security adviser. And the reason was that he discussed U.S. sanctions with the Russian ambassador to the United States before Trump took office this after promising otherwise to Vice President Mike Pence. Such contacts could run afoul of the Logan Act, which bans private citizens from engaging in foreign policy.
Here are some remaining questions:
- Are Flynn's contacts with Russian officials the reason President Vladimir Putin declined to retaliate when the United States imposed additional sanctions on Russia in the waning days of the Obama administration?
- Did Flynn act alone, or did someone higher up in Trump's circle instruct or authorize, tacitly or otherwise, these interactions?
