Re-homing a Horse

I have a cute little Quarter Horse mare, that showed up with a gelding, at my barn when I was still out in CA. They were starving, wormy, with sores, and nylon halters embedded in their noses. I only meant to get them rehabbed, and then find other homes for them.

That was several years ago. I ended up moving them with my other horses from CA back to KY. I placed the gelding (35 years old, and hardly any teeth left) with a friend as a companion to her old gelding. He's still in great shape, and doing very well. I still need to re-home the mare. I have ridden her previously, but she was trained Western. I ride dressage. Have not had time or energy to re-train her for a discipline for which she's not really suited. I want her to go to a home that only wants her as a pet or companion, or is willing to put her back into professional training for a tune-up. She's not a kid horse without that. We think she's about 20 years old. She's about 14 hands, healthy, with good feet, all vacc's and worming current. Bright chestnut with white markings.

I am in southwestern Kentucky. Please email me privately for more info and photos. Sorry, PhotoBucket can't seem to get this photo rotated.

Damn Manchin!!!

MSNBC just announced he's voting for Gorsuch.

Best Movie Soundtrack?

What's your favorite movie soundtrack? I would say "City of Angels", is mine.

Old Roosters

Any chicken people here? I have some ancient chickens, probably 13+ years old now, that I raised from chicks. I had one little Japanese bantam who's eyes just started closing, and he finally just gave up on keeping them open. I could give him water, but couldn't make him eat. I just figured it was his time. Now, I have a golden Seabright that is doing the same thing. This is not showing up in any of the other old birds, or the young laying hens. At least not yet.

Any ideas? Its really too bad that the Rural/Farm Life group is kaput.

DIY Miracle Grow and Roundup

I think I'm going to try making my own Miracle Grow. Most recipes call for epsom salt, baking soda, and ammonia mixed with water. My question is, should I put in the ammonia if I already have sufficient nitrogen in my soil? Probably too much, because I added too much horse manure last year.

I'm torn about using Roundup. I have tried the vinegar, salt, DW liquid homemade weed killer, without much success. I have read some articles that say regular household vinegar isn't strong enough--that you have to get 20%, and it's much more dangerous than Roundup. Plus it doesn't kill the roots, so the weed comes right back. And there's always the Roundup argument about how safe it is for people and environment. Even though I have a huge flower garden, I originally did the lasagna route by getting tons of cardboard boxes from the local Amish stores. But now, that's all breaking down--like its supposed to, and the weeds are popping thru. I pull them in the beds themselves, but my paths are already under siege, even mulched.

Opinions on both are appreciated.

I Found Trump in a Mushroom!

And then I made him into a trumpple omelet.

Kinda like finding Jesus in a Cheeto, only different.

Looking for the best place to shop flower seeds

Looking for a good and reliable seed dealer for flowers such as, Rose Campion, Lambs Ears, Foxglove, Columbine, etc. I planted all last year, and none came up (don't EVER buy seeds off eBay!) Even the plain old daisy seeds didn't come up.

Any interest in starting a seed exchange here?

So what did you get for Valentine's Day?

I got a new pair of waterproof farm boots. Hey--I'm thrilled, I really need them. Although it would have been more romantic if there were roses in them.

Gorsuch Ad

Anyone else been seeing the ad by "Judicial Crisis Network", with an Obama staff member promoting Gorsuch? Says she interned for him, and he was just fabulous. Has there ever been an ad for a Supreme Court nominee? You gotta hope they are running this because they feel he's shaky.
