I'm sorry, I just don't get it. Why protest someone else's rally?

I am no fan of Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Kasich or even Clinton for that matter.. but in a million years, I would never consider going to one of their rallies for the purpose of causing disruption or protesting.

I would consider taking up residence across the street from the rally with signs.. but to actually go into a campaign rally with the intent to disrupt it... I just don't get it.

I feel like all you wind up doing is reinforcing support for that candidate among the people who were there AND the people who were thinking about the candidate... they see the stuff on TV and they become invested... "they" are trying to stop our candidate from spreading their message. "They" are trying to take my country away from me.

I get protesting a president, a senator, a congressperson who is actually making policy.. but right now this candidate (or any candidate) is just making noise. It may be noise we completely disagree or find incendiary.. but taking over the rally and shouting doesn't change anyone's vote. I feel like it has the opposite effect.

I understand the motivation behind it.. people want to protest a racist, spreading stupidity and hatred.. but I feel like those involved are just giving him a better chance at winning.

That was just.... WOW.

I think she just poked the bear one too many times.

The flailing and lies that Clinton had to resort to tonight were just astounding. Bernie sided with the Minute Men? TARP was a success and we got paid back??? She doesn't even understand HOW the dang thing worked.

Let's just hit the TARP nonsense. We LOST MONEY ON TARP. Why? We spent 700B to BUY NON VOTING SHARES in these companies. We ended up selling all that stock for a total of 715.5B 6 years later. But, wait Basselope, you said we lost money.. what is wrong with your math 715.5-700= a 15.5 billion dollar PROFIT.. right??

Well.. small itty, bitty problem. That 700B added to the deficit, thus the debt. And we PAY INTEREST on that debt. About 2.43% (google it). So in the first year of TARP (before a single share was sold) TARP now cost 717 Billion dollars. I am not sure at exactly what rate we divested our interest in the companies, but it doesn't matter. We were already losing money in year one. We probably lost close to 60 BILLION by the time the 6 years was up due to interest charges.

It was very interesting to watch.. but there was a moment in that debate where you could see the look in Sanders' eyes. Enough was enough. When she started with the Minute Man crap.. he HAD IT. And from that moment forward, he owned her. Basically.. compare our records and you will have your answer. The last thing Clinton needs is anyone comparing her record to Sanders.

From that moment on, she was completely thrown off, because she was feeling the Bern!

5 Million raised in last 24 hours! A complete crushing at the debate.

Did the Fox Town Hall help put Bernie over the top?

While I think the debate was VERY STRONG for Sanders, there was something about seeing Sanders in "unfriendly" territory that really brought our his authenticity.

There was no triangulating.. no trying to wiggle out of answer. Just straight forward answers to questions and a willingness to look at the questioner and say.. I disagree with you because...

"No, I don't believe in trickle down economics".

"Because I am a human being".

No false smiles, no sense of deception. No idea that he was trying to dance around the issues. (All f which I got from Clinton when she did her segment).

It REALLY makes me wish that Fox would host a full democratic debate, because I would love to see how both the candidates preform when completely under attack and being asked the type of questions that the Fox News hosts would ask. You want to REALLY see who would preform better in the general election under attack.. let Fox host a democratic debate and see how it goes.

What do Russ Feingold, Ron Wyden, Debbie Stabenow, Maria Cantwell and Bernie Sanders have in common?

They all voted AGAINST TARP.

Why?

Because they knew it was a bad plan and there were better solutions out there.

Clinton's stance on debt free college makes 0 sense.

First, she talks about how she is going to make it debt free b/c if you can't afford it the money will provided to you, but if you are wealthy you will have to pay.

I got news for you Hillary... the wealthy people aren't going to public colleges. They are going to the many MANY private universities and colleges throughout the US. SO.. in essence you are promising the same thing as Bernie Sanders.

Second, you say you are going to make colleges lower tuition. How? Ask them to take a look at what they are charging and whether it is good for the student or not. WHAT?!?! So you want them to self-police their own spending?

Third, you talk about how you want STATES to invest MORE in their public college systems, but decry Sanders' plan b/c you don't think he could get it through congress. How are you going to MAKE the red states do this?

Sanders plan is so bloody simple. You have an FTT (Financial Transaction Tax). Just like we had in this country from 1918-1966. Studies have shown DEFINITIVELY (since many countries have FTTs) that the .05% tax he is suggesting will have absolutely 0 impact on trading; however, it will raise around 50 BILLION dollars per year at current trading prices. If you take that money and invest it DIRECTLY into the public colleges.. they become free at their current tuition rates. Very Very Simple.

Is the best strategy for Obama to nominate a progressive to the Court?

I have read talk of some type of compromise justice... Like a "moderate" republican so that he can get the seat filled before the election.

However, IF Clinton is to be the nominee.. I believe the SC court is the ONLY wedge issue that could possibly drive turnout to give her a chance to win. An impending seat on the SC would be a massive issue and one that heavily favors the democrats. Once that seat is filled... people can scream and shout about how others on the court may die w/in 4 years, but that NEVER works. It's a theoretical argument that doesn't motivate any voters.

So, if Obama nominates someone who is just liberal enough that they won't get through, but just acceptable enough the American people feel cheated... well.. then you ACTUALLY give Clinton a chance of winning.

I don't LOVE Obamacare, but one thing it is not is a "job killer"

FFS.. how can they get away with this talking point when unemployment is under 5%???

I can give you a LONG list of problems with Obamacare and a (smaller) list of benefits.

But one thing we KNOW is that it is NOT a job killer.

Great tool to help Bernie Win

I did a search and couldn't find a reference to it on DU... so I apologize if this is a repeat.

Can Trump be WORSE than bush?

This is in no way an endorsement of Trump or suggestion that anyone in their right mind (or even not right mind) consider voting for him; however, as I feel the potential for a Trump presidency is looming, I am forced to ask myself is it possible for him to be worse than bush?

While I knew bush was going to be bad, I never quite imagined HOW BAD he was going to be. I didn't expect him to ignore memos about attacks that lead to 9/11. I didn't expect him to start a war with Iraq.

I DID expect him to trash the economy by going back to known failed trickle down policies, but not quite to the extent that he did. To completely ignore the bubble everyone saw about to pop.. well.. he missed the memos in 8/11, so I guess it is not surprising he would miss them in 2007/08 either.

When I look at reality... I just can't think of what he could do that would be worse than what bush did and I am actually MORE afraid of some of the other candidates (Cruz, Rubio).

Again, just to stress not being as bad as the worst president to walk the earth is in NO WAY a suggestion that anyone should ever consider voting for him. I wouldn't pull the lever for him if he offered me his entire fortune (whatever that number may be)... but for some reason I am not quite as frightened as I was of bush.

What am I missing?
