Glad to have found this. I've been looking...

... around for forums that are not so obsessed with Trump and found this. Not that he doesn't deserve our attention, but watching people spend energy on citing his every stupidity is making me tired. I see this isn't a very active forum, but I've subscribed here so I can see when stuff pops up.

In case you missed it, Amanpour's award speech.

The genius move is to come out as strong as DiBlassio without turning into McConnell

We need to come out fighting hard against Trump and all he stands for. But we need to direct that energy at the enemy. It's a little early to start saying fellow Dems are going along to get along. Getting along is not the goal. Doing what's best for the country is the goal. Let's not put on McConnell style blinders!

Are there legal sanctions against conflicts of interest...

.... between the President's business dealings and his duties as President? Or is it all just convention?

Links to help Foster Campbell in LA runoff.

Got this in an e-mail from our town Democratic committee. They also said they've gotten a lot of calls from new people. I'm one of them. Although I've always responded to calls for canvassing, etc, I wasn't on a mailing list for plain old meetings.

For those of you looking to do a little more in the meantime, the Louisiana Democratic Party has reached out to us to help in their Senate Runoff election which will be held on December 10th. They are asking for volunteers to phone bank for Democratic candidate Foster Campbell. You can sign up here: http://action.lademo.org/page/s/start-calling or email Gabriel at gabriel@fostercampbell2016.com if you are able to travel to Shreveport, Baton Rouge or New Orleans.

Is there a way to find out if the NYT subscriptions have gone up? nt

Does anyone know anything about the conference call...

... among a very large number of pregressive groups that took place either the night of the election or the next day or night? I thought I read about it on DU. Can't think of where else. But searches even confined to a day keep timing out?

I wondered if there's a chance for unprecedented unity in fighting the neo-Nazi takeover.

In particular I wondered if the very early statments by Sanders and Warren promising to "work with Trump IF..." signaled come coordination.

I just saw an ad for Amazon Prime that made me happy.

No talk, just light piano music. Two bearded clerics, one Muslim, one Catholic are visiting (maybe playing a game, maybe just talking). When the Muslim leaves you see each of them clicking on an Amazon Prime icon on their smart phones. Next you see packages being delivered to their homes. Each has received a gift a knee pads from the other. Useful for kneeling as shown in the closing scenes.

I know it's not changing structures, but we sure do need some communal rooting for true American values wherever we can get it.

Waiting and watching for something to bubble up.

I'm hoping that there will be one big opportunity for us to rally together, but I suspect that's hoping for too much. We have different perspectives. But I am aching for something to get behind. I'm guessing I'll have to wait til after Jan 21 to see what Obama does. I'm definitely going to start going to local Dem meetings.

Are any of you signing on to anything yet?

The mobilization against Mr. Trump began even before his victory was official. At just after midnight on Election Day, panicked immigration rights activists gathered for a conference call to strategize. A few days later, more than 80 representatives of 57 progressive groups convened in the offices of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights in Washington.

Nan Aron, the president of the Alliance for Justice, started calling law firms in Washington the day after the election, beginning the process of opposition research on Mr. Trump’s likely Supreme Court nominees. Dozens of lawyers eagerly signed up for what is sure to be a heated battle over the direction of the court for a generation.

She <Elizabeth Warren> says he is mounting an effort “to turn this country into something very different than it is.”

"On basic issues of humanity, we don’t give an inch,” she insisted in an interview on Friday. “Be very, very clear about what we won’t compromise on and very clear about what we’re fighting for. If we have clarity, the American people are with us.”

Exactly how — and when — Mr. Obama would once again engage in direct and public opposition to Mr. Trump’s agenda is unclear.

“I don’t know what President Obama will do,” Ms. Tanden said. “But I know that he loves the foundations of democracy. If he thinks that’s threatened, I imagine he might speak out.”

Does everyone still know We Shall Overcome?

I've been thinking about a rallying song. What got me started was the thought that I might witness booing or other harassment of a Muslim. What would I do? If I started singing We Shall Overcome would others recognize it?

I read somewhere that these days the only songs you can count on all members of a mixed group to be able to sing are Happy Birthday and Auld Lang Syne...
