NBC: No one wanted Hillary Clinton to win this way

"No one wanted Hillary Clinton to win the Democratic nomination Monday night -- not even Hillary Clinton.

The Associated Press’ surprise decision to declare Clinton the party’s presumptive nominee the night before voters headed to the polls in six states Tuesday has muddled the impact of Clinton’s historic accomplishment and salted the wounds of Sanders supporters.

The declaration, based on a survey of superdelegates, was quickly followed by other news outlets, including NBC News. It sent reporters scrambling and put both candidates and the rest of the Democratic Party in an awkward position as the race was called when few expected it to end.

For Clinton, this is not how she wanted to become the first woman to be a major political party’s nominee. During a monumental moment, Clinton kept the party under a lid, instead of breaking out the champagne. "

KING: Hillary Clinton did not win the Democratic Primary, she won a secret survey of party elites

"On Monday, on the eve of the most important day in the primary, on a day where not a single vote was cast, Hillary Clinton was surprisingly declared the winner of the Democratic Primary.

Tuesday was scheduled to be the single biggest day of the entire Democratic Primary season with a total of 694 pledged delegates up for grabs in California, New Jersey, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, and New Mexico.

In the past 45 days alone, more than 650,000 new voters registered in California and the state announced that with 72% of available voters registered, it was the highest percentage of people ever registered for primaries in the state.

This should have been a celebration for the Democratic Party as it welcomed record numbers of new voters into the fold. Instead, something far more nefarious and underhanded has happened. New voters didn't put Hillary Clinton over the top. Pledged delegates didn't seal the deal. It wasn't a recount of a primary or caucus.

It was a survey - an anonymous survey.

Yes, you read that correctly - a survey. The Associated Press conducted a secret survey of super-delegates, in which they promised to protect their identities, and determined that just enough of them, the perfect number actually, said they intended to vote for Hillary Clinton 50 days from now during the Democratic Convention. For the AP, that was enough to go ahead and call the race for her.

Let me say that in a different way.

A secret survey of politicians and party insiders on whether or not they will actually vote for Hillary Clinton during the Democratic Convention on July 25 in Philadelphia is what the AP used to call this race a done deal.

It's disgusting."

The AP didn't call it for Obama until the last states voted and those were only 31 delegates combined.

Why the Associated Press called the race for Hillary Clinton when nobody was looking

"Most observers expected that Hillary Clinton would be crowned the victor in the Democratic presidential primary process at some point after New Jersey voted on Tuesday. Supporters of Bernie Sanders hoped to convince the media to hold off on such an announcement until the convention or, at the very least, until after polls closed in California later Tuesday night. But everyone knew some sort of declaration was coming; Clinton was within a few dozen delegates of winning — including both winning through voting and superdelegates — and New Jersey would put her over the top.

But then on Monday evening, unexpectedly, the Associated Press sent out an announcement: Clinton was already there.

Over the weekend, Clinton won two more Democratic contests that drew her within shouting distance of clinching the nomination — the Virgin Islands and (more important) Puerto Rico. On Monday morning, she needed 23 more delegates to hit the 2,383-delegate mark that constitutes a majority for the convention. She had 1,812 pledged delegates and commitments from more than 500 superdelegates, but she was a bit short of the threshold.

What happened on Monday was that the Associated Press received commitments from enough superdelegates — just enough superdelegates, in fact — to put Clinton over the top. With 23 more superdelegates in hand, Clinton reached the 2,383 mark, and the AP made the call.

Understandably, that out-of-the-blue determination prompted even more frustration and confusion than was already expected. How was the AP sure that those superdelegates wouldn't change their minds? Why release new totals the day before the critical primaries in California? Who were the superdelegates that made the difference?

We did our best to answer those questions"

Abandoned Japanese boy: Seven-year-old Yamato Tanooka 'forgives father'

Source: BBC

A Japanese boy who was lost for six days in dense forests after his parents left him behind has been discharged from hospital.Takayuki Tanooka, 44, and his wife briefly left Yamato Tanooka by the side of the road on the northern island of Hokkaido on 28 May as punishment. When they came back he was gone. A huge search was launched and the boy was found at a military base on Friday.

Mr Tanooka said in an interview on Monday that Yamato forgave him. Mr Tanooka told broadcaster TBS in an interview: "I said to him, 'Dad made you go though such a hard time. I am sorry'."
"And then, my son said, 'You are a good dad. I forgive you'."

The boy was found on Friday morning in a hut on a military drill field, some 5.5km (3.4 miles) from where he was left as a punishment for throwing stones at people and cars.

He said he had lost his sense of direction from crying and walked for about five hours before arriving at the building where he was found, according to The Mainichi newspaper.

Flashback: AP Calls The Nomination For Obama "Tues" June 3rd 2008

Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois claimed the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday night, NBC News projected based on its tally of convention delegates.

By doing so, he shattered a barrier more than two centuries old to become the first black candidate ever nominated by a major political party for the nation’s highest office.

“After 54 hard-fought contests, our primary season has finally come to an end,” Obama told cheering supporters in a victory celebration in St. Paul, Minn., at the site of the convention that will nominate his Republican opponent in the fall, Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

Timing is everything!

June 7, 2016

It was a bold move but will it pay off?

The proclamation by AP was a bold move and I wonder what the true motives are. The timing cannot be overlooked. Just like the timing of Hillary foreign policy speech. So maybe the internal polling didn't show the bump team Hillary was expecting? I've noticed lately there's been a lot of talk about Hillarys internal polling.

This move of announcing that Hillary the nominee could actually have a negative effect on Hillarys turn out so maybe this is some CYA for when Bernie wins California.
You can look at the math anyway you want but until the supers actually vote they are purely polling statistics.

Tomorrow should be interesting.

Calif. sees record high voter registrations going into primary

"A record number of voters have registered in California ahead of its presidential primary this week, the state's secretary of state announced Friday.

A report released on Friday shows that there are 17,915,053 voters registered as of the state’s May 23 deadline, the most the state has ever seen going into a primary.
“Nearly 18 million California citizens are registered to vote in the June 7 Presidential Primary,” Secretary of State Alex Padilla said in a statement.

“In the 45 days leading up to the voter registration deadline, there was a huge surge in voter registration — total statewide voter registration increased by nearly 650,000. Part of this surge was fueled through social media, as Facebook sent a reminder to all California users to register to vote.”

According to the report, about 72 percent of eligible Californians are registered to vote.

Of the state’s voters, about 45 percent are registered as Democrats, which is a one-point increase since April. Republicans make up about 27 percent and unaffiliated voters account for about 23 percent.

Around this date in 2012, there were 17,153,699 registered voters in California. "

I'm glad to see that Republicans makeup only 27% of the total.

The View Co-hosts Discuss Hillary Calling Trump Unfit to Be President

In a recent speech Hillary Clinton says a thinned skinned and temperamental person, like Trump, is unfit to President. Donald Trump struck back at Hillary stating she needs to go to jail over her e-mail scandal. Some feel Hillary's speech was great while others think she has not stated anything new.

Albright: 'Nobody is going to die' from Clinton emails

Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server while at the State Department will not kill anyone, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said Friday. But Donald Trump's rhetoric might, the Clinton ally suggested.

"She has said she made a mistake, and nobody is going to die as a result of anything that happened on emails," Albright told CNN's Chris Cuomo on "New Day," after the host broached the multifaceted criticism and concerns about Clinton's foreign policy from opponents and supporters alike.
Story Continued Below

Cuomo referenced Clinton's use of private emails, along with the infamous failed reset with Russia and her role in orchestrating the nuclear deal with a hostile Iranian regime, a day after Albright's Democratic successor at Foggy Bottom delivered a blistering speech ripping Trump's foreign policy credentials.

"I am concerned about some of the statements that Donald Trump has made that are dangerous," Albright said. "On the issue of Russia, the fact that Donald Trump admires Putin is one of the reasons that I can't agree with a word he says because the reset takes two to reset."
Albright blamed Moscow for the reset's failure, remarking that Vladimir Putin "is the one that has made very aggressive moves against Ukraine and pushed Europe around, which is why we need a strong NATO."

"And the Iran nuclear deal has made it clear that Iran will not have a nuclear weapon. That is positive. So I think people—these are very, very difficult and complicated issues that need to be explained. And I thought Secretary Clinton's speech went a long way to laying out what was a rational national security policy," she said. "And I would hope and I would be so happy to participate in this, is having really an in-depth discussion of the issues that are out there so that America will be safe. And that's what we need to talk about instead of name-calling, frankly."
