Videos taken inside the Capitol and social media posts led to the arrest of Henry Phillip Muntzer, 52, of Dillon, authorities said in court records.

Muntzer made an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Missoula on Thursday, where he was charged with illegally entering the Capitol and disorderly conduct. U.S. Magistrate Kathleen DeSoto appointed a federal defender and released Muntzer on the condition he appear in federal court in Washington on Jan. 28, the court clerk said.

Republicans call for unity but won't acknowledge Biden won fairly

How in the bloody hell are we supposed to move on when they lie and support the liar in chief? I'll unite with them when they make the first move to dial down the temperature. I won't hold my breath.

The call for unity came from one of President Trump’s most loyal supporters in Congress, nearly a week after a pro-Trump mob rampaged the U.S. Capitol in a riot that left five people dead.

“What happened at the Capitol on Jan. 6 was as wrong as wrong can be,” Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) told colleagues during a virtual committee meeting about Democrats’ demands that Trump be removed from office. Now was the time for “healing,” and in Jordan’s opinion, that meant allowing the president to finish out his term.

The committee chairman, Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.), pressed him on one point. Hadn’t Jordan and more than 140 other Republicans given oxygen to the false conspiracy theory pushed by Trump that motivated the Capitol rioters — that the election had somehow been stolen — when they had voted to object to certifying the electoral college results?

In a Connecticut hospital room, a woman less than 48 hours from death posted on Facebook: “It is now just a matter of trying to keep me comfortable till I pass.”

A few days before Christmas, less than a week before he died at home, a California man texted his daughter: “Vaccines on the way. Gettin kinda close.”

Nearly 400,000 Americans have now died of covid-19. It took 12 weeks for the death toll to rise from 200,000 to 300,000. The death toll has leaped from 300,000 to almost 400,000 in less than five weeks.

Acting defense secretary orders NSA director to immediately install former GOP operative as the agen

While there are other problems with Gen. Nakasone's leadership at NSA, he's in the right on this one. It'll be interesting to see who wins this standoff...the Acting Secretary of Defense or a 4-star general.

Acting defense secretary Christopher C. Miller ordered the director of the National Security Agency to install on Saturday a former GOP political operative as the NSA’s top lawyer, according to four individuals familiar with the matter.

In November, Pentagon General Counsel Paul C. Ney Jr. named Michael Ellis, then a White House official, to the position of general counsel at the NSA, a career civilian post at the government’s largest and most technologically advanced spy agency, The Post reported. He was selected after a competitive civil service competition. He has not taken up the job, however, as he needed to complete administrative procedures, including taking a polygraph test.

Reached by phone Saturday, Ellis said, “I don’t talk to the press, thank you,” and hung up.

During the chaos at the Capitol, overwhelmed police officers confronted and combated a frenzied sea of rioters who transformed the seat of democracy into a battlefield. Now police chiefs across the country are confronting the uncomfortable reality that members in their own ranks were among the mob that faced off against other law enforcement officers.

At least 13 off-duty law enforcement officials are suspected of taking part in the riot, a tally that could grow as investigators continue to pore over footage and records to identify participants. Police leaders are turning in their own to the FBI and taking the striking step of reminding officers in their departments that criminal misconduct could push them off the force and behind bars.

The reckoning within police departments comes as plans for new demonstrations this weekend and on Inauguration Day are solidifying, with authorities warning of the potential for violence in state capitals. Participants are expected to protest election results that made Joe Biden president-elect.

Rand Paul Warns One Third of Republicans Will Leave Party if GOP Senators Back Impeachment

So, what's the downside???

Senator Rand Paul (R., Ky.) warned Friday that one third of Republican voters could leave the party if GOP senators vote in impeachment proceedings to convict President Trump. Paul made the comments in an interview on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle.

The senator’s remarks come amid an increasing divide between congressional Republicans who oppose impeaching the president, and a smaller number who support the measure following the riots at the Capitol on January 6. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) is reportedly hopeful that Republicans can use impeachment to purge Trump from the GOP, although he would need the support of at least 16 additional Republican senators to vote to convict.

Sean Urbanski sentenced to life in killing of Black Army Lt. Richard Collins III

Sean Urbanski was sentenced to life in prison Thursday afternoon in the 2017 stabbing death of Richard Collins III — a case that drew nationwide attention and prompted lawmakers to revise the hate crime statute in Maryland.
Urbanski, who is White, was arrested soon after he attacked 23-year-old Collins, who was Black, with a three-inch pocket knife at a bus stop on the University of Maryland campus in College Park. Collins was there visiting friends and was just days away from graduating with a business degree from Bowie State University. He had also been commissioned into the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant.
Urbanski, now 25, was a U-Md. student at the time of the stabbing. He was charged with first-degree murder and a hate crime after authorities discovered that he belonged to a white supremacist Facebook group called “Alt-Reich: Nation” and had racist memes stored on his phone.

During his trial in December 2019, prosecutors said that Urbanski approached Collins and two friends around 3 a.m. the night of May 20, 2017, as many area seniors were preparing for their college graduations.

“Step left, step left if you know what’s best for you,” Urbanski said to Collins, according to court documents. When the young man refused, Urbanski stabbed him.
At trial, Urbanski’s attorneys acknowledged that he killed Collins but said he was acting on an alcohol-fueled impulse. They argued that prosecutors were speculating on the motive based on a handful of vile memes pulled from about 17,000 images on Urbanski’s phone.
Despite prosecutors’ belief that Urbanski was motivated by hate in his killing of Collins, Circuit Court Judge Lawrence V. Hill Jr. threw out the hate crime charge after the state closed its case — ruling that they had not met their legal burden outlined in the state statute.

The decision was a crushing blow for Collins’s family and the prosecutor’s office at the time, state’s attorney Aisha Braveboy said in a recent interview, and they spoke with raw emotion about the toll of decision during the sentencing hearing Thursday.

“In my opinion,” Dawn Collins said, “My son’s greatest crime was that he said no to a white man.”
Braveboy’s office had taken over the case from former state’s attorney Angela Alsobrooks, now the county executive. Collins’s parents were the first family Braveboy met with as state’s attorney, she said.
“It was, I knew, the biggest case I was going to have, at least in my first term here as state’s attorney,” Braveboy said. “And it was a case that was very near and dear to me. I went to the University of Maryland, and I knew that there was racial tension on the campus even then. And so for this to happen on a campus that I walked on at one point, it touched me.”

She said she met with Collins’s parents to reassure them, and with her prosecution team to encourage them to refocus on the remaining murder charge.

After two hours of deliberation, the jury returned with a verdict. Braveboy said she prayed over her Bible in her office with a feeling that “justice was going to happen that day.”
“And it did,” she said.
The jury found Urbanski guilty of murder.
