I don't see how he can come back from this. What he has done to this country will take decades to put right, but increasingly the consequences are already being felt and more and more people are waking up to it.

All he needs to say today is that Democrats have already agreed to another billion dollars, which he can claim shows a lack of understanding of the importance of border security, and he will sign a bill if they now meet him halfway, ie., at 4 billion, and continue negotiations to get the full amount he wants after the government reopens. That will then make Democrats look like they won't budge and are responsible for not ending shutdown if we don't agree.

I often meet Trump supporters. I married into a Republican family. Not that they are all Trumpers, but those who are, including friends of the family, think he is the best thing since sliced bread and all other views are fake news.

Conversations about Trump seem to be short, or short-tempered, because they have no facts, other than claiming he is making America great, Obama was terrible, and he is probably going to go down in history as the best president ever. I have learnt that they will not engage in a fact-based discussion, but I do sometimes get a chance to say what I think is wrong with the Trump presidency before things break down into insults and shouting.

If you were in this situation and you have a thirty second window to make your point, what would you say? What is the most powerful argument you can make against Trump in thirty seconds?
