I'm guessing you guys have discussed this in the past, but for those willing to indulge me, here's my list:
1) Good Will Hunting
2) The Lives of Others
3) Shawshank Redemption
4) Dances With Wolves
5) Forrest Gump
6) The Departed
7) Les Miserables (1998 version with Neeson, Rush and Thurman)
8) Breakfast Club
9) There Will Be Blood
10) The Wrestler
I realize that my choices are 100% skewed towards films released during my lifetime (as a teen or older). I have watched some "classic" films but none crack my top 10 in terms of enjoyment.
Not making my list but still among my guilty pleasures is Top Gun. When I'm clicking through the channels and I see it, I will often get caught up in it once again.
I don't like Facebook's "trending" change
Instead of giving a short sentence summary of why something is trending, Facebook now just shows what the topic is in a word or two and indicates how many people are "talking about this." It will undoubtedly lead to more clicks because users will want to get a sense of why, but it will also result in more time wasted clicking on things that really aren't of interest.
Sigh.
Does anyone prefer the new "trending" format?

53 years since MLK's "I have a dream" speech
Aug. 28 marked 53 years since that historic address by Martin Luther King at the National Mall in Washington D.C. A quarter-million people were there to experience it in person.
Any DUers recall hearing the speech back in the day? Where you were and what impression it made on you?
But that iconic line did not come until 11 minutes into Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech. So we thought today would be a good time to play some other parts of the speech that are not quite as famous.
When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men - yes, black men as well as white men - would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked insufficient funds. But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt...
Let freedom ring. And when this happens, and when we allow freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children - black men, white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics - will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual - free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty, we are free at last.

Christian Estrosi, president of the Regional Council of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and deputy mayor of Nice, said in a statement Wednesday that the photos "provoke defamatory remarks and threats" against police agents. He added that legal complaints have already been filed "to prosecute those who spread the photographs of our municipal police officers and those uttering threats against them on social networks."

Black man shot by police after reporting armed robbery at his home
The homeowner who alerted police was carrying a gun when the cops arrived, then he got shot. If he'd been white and carrying the gun, would the shot never have been fired? One does wonder...
Carl Williams, who lives in Indianapolis, rang the city's police department to say his wife had been assaulted by a black suspect with a rifle - but was then shot himself by the officer who arrived at the scene. In what the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) has called a "tragic incident", the 48-year-old was reportedly mistaken for his wife's assailant by a police officer with nine years' experience.
The shooting, which has left Mr Williams fighting for his life in hospital, is the latest in a series of similar incidents that have sparked a crisis in the US over race relations and police training.

Should students be required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance & hold hand over heart?
Fox News is all over this story, so please excuse the source. I'm more interested in people's opinions here. Do you think it should be mandatory for students to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance, and should holding their hand over their heart be encouraged? Should children be able to excuse themselves from reciting the pledge, rather than having parents sign a waiver?
It read: I understand my rights as a parent and I request that my child, noted above, be excused from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. This request includes standing and placing his/her right hand over his/her heart.

Melania threatens to sue Politico, The Daily Mail and others
She hasn't filed suit, just letting everyone know that she's considering legal action.
In addition, Harder said that he had put Politico on notice for "false and defamatory statements" regarding its reporting on Trump's immigration history. Politico confirmed that its reporters had been sent notices.
The notices come just three days after The Daily Mail, a UK publication, published a report citing a story in a Slovenian magazine that claimed a New York modeling agency that once represented Trump "also operated as an escort agency for wealthy clients." That report was then picked up or referenced by other news outlets.
