BlacKkKlansman with its true-ish interpretation of Ron Stallworths time as an undercover cop and its potent mix of historical fact and fiction, style, swagger and unpicking of current political ideology means its the obvious choice for this years best picture Oscar. Lee took inspiration from The French Connection, Dog Day Afternoon and Serpico, and for a director whose greatest work has never been acknowledged by the Academy, there would be something fitting in him finally getting recognition for a work that is simultaneously iconoclastic, more racially charged than ever and rooted in the very best of 70s cinema.
Yes, Boots Riley has a valid point that the true story of Ron Stallworth was very different to the one that Lee presents. But the counter argument is that a film which is presented as being based upon some fo real, fo real shit should be taken with a healthy pinch of salt. And, anyway, the films best moments all mix reality and fiction to glorious effect. Theres Lees presentation of civil rights activist Kwame Ture, who Stallworth really did meet and who is played by a career-best Corey Hawkins. Theres the masterstroke of using Harry Belafonte to appear as Jerome Turner, a made-up character who tells the Colorado students about the very real lynching of Jesse Washington in Waco, Texas, is one of Lees very best and is an important piece of storytelling that lingers long after the credits roll. Then theres the films coup de theatre: the interspersing of real-life footage of the Charlottesville neo-Nazi rally, a joyous David Duke and Donald Trumps conflation of anti-fascist protests with the far right groups that swamped the town.
67 year old woman here..long and varied work history. I have been an optician, Manager of a health spa, USDA, Corp Ins Offices, beautician, nurse in ICU..I even interviewed at a massage parlour...worked ONE day there...I have done it all !!
Most of my female bosses were horrid...jealous, all manner of crazy..used to make fun of me for exercising in the 1970s..exercising....at the USDA the other women mocked my ONE brilliant lady boss a Chicago attny, because she wore white tights...my men bosses were all about the work...no pettiness...
I also had another woman boss and every morning on the way to work I would pray "Lord please don't let Rosemary be nasty to me today" how pathetic was that...I finally walked out one day..no notice no nothing...My Mom said Jody, Rosemary is jealous of you...I waved that off...but now that I am older, I WAS the same age, 177 IQ and I was very pretty...so maybe Mom had something...I am a testament that women bosses can be really shitty to other women, regardless of the caliber/quality of your work performance. Again, I am 67. My history may differ from a 19 year old or a 40 year old.
And there is nothing mean or catty or sexist in telling this truth....if you think one of your women bosses is a bully, you might want to warn others...not with TMZ, but a reputable publication.

Magazine covers and titles are highly thought out. People get paid a lot of money on decisions like this. The decision in NRA magazine to have an article titled Target Practice next to photo of Pelosi and Giffords is intentional. This is incitement of violence and not OK!
Someone sent me this image of the latest copy of NRA's magazine, featuring a story with the words "Target Practice" next to a photo of Nancy Pelosi with Gabby Giffords. Maybe don't do this @NRA.
Jeffrey Epstein is a convicted pedophile and sex trafficker. Under oath Epstein says he knows The Pathological Liar. When asked if he was ever with The Liar with underaged girls, he takes The Fifth. The Liars Labor Sec. orchestrates corrupt sentencing for Epstein. Do The Math.
I wonder if Jussie Smollett has Ryan Lochte's face tattooed on his back.
Did you guys see Schiff on Bill Maher last nite? He said Rs stop him in the hall and say "Keep doing what you're doing"...he said the time for confidences is over, they have to stand up and speak out.
Are the Rs being bribed by Putin/Trump?
This week my siblings decided to buy empty pills from Amazon and fill them with something to give to my 88 year old mom. Mom is a narcissist like Trump...keeps insisting she is sick for attention...she has been this way her whole life...so this is what it has come to..pretend pills..I couldn't help but make the comparison...that both she and Trump manipulate to win...get what they want.
It is easier to give in to them to shut them up...so the Rs give in to Trump and his every loving BASE...but their payoff MUST be money...
sure is a reality show, huh? Dollar Store has them for a buck...the markers I mean...but could be the pundits, too..
he took us thru Ray Rice investigation...how involved and intricate it was...and long...
so there we are once again boys and girls...
