Ilhan Omar is right about the influence of the Israel lobby GUARDIAN

Ilhan Omar is right about the influence of the Israel lobby Alex Kotch

Following the Ilhan Omar controversy, it’s incredibly important to be able to decipher between real antisemitism and basic political facts. ‘Labeling anyone who speaks of Jews and money in the same sentence an anti-Semite weakens our fight against the real antisemitic, neo-Nazi, and other white nationalist forces’ . It’s important to remember how the controversy around Ilhan Omar, who Trump said should resign over tweets critical of a pro-Israel lobbying group, began. The first two Muslim congresswomen in the history of the United States – Ilhan Omar, a freshman representative from Minnesota and Somali refugee, and her fellow freshman representative Rashida Tlaib, a Palestinian American – have bravely criticized the Israeli government for its grotesque treatment of the Palestinian people.

Acknowledging this apartheid system is a dangerous thing for American elected officials to do. Just in 2016, when presidential candidate Bernie Sanders dared to say that “We are going to have to treat the Palestinian people with respect and dignity” it became a major media event. Omar and Tlaib endorse Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, a Palestinian-led movement to pressure Israel to change course on Palestine. Opponents have dishonestly cast it as inherently antisemitic.

The furor over BDS has led more than half of US states to pass laws attacking BDS. These laws clearly trample on the constitutional right to free speech and expression, but that didn’t stop the US Senate from passing the very first piece of legislation this session, which forbids Congress from pre-empting such state laws. So by supporting a justice movement for Palestinians, Omar and Tlaib have opened themselves up to a torrent of attacks from liberals, centrists and the right. The House minority leader, Kevin McCarthy, took these attacks one step further, threatening to punish the two representatives if Democratic party leaders failed to do so. Omar responded to McCarthy’s threat by quoting the title of a popular song, “It’s all about the Benjamins,” on Sunday night. When the opinion editor of the Forward, Batya Ungar Sargon, questioned who Omar might think is paying members of Congress to unflinchingly support Israel, Omar tweeted, “AIPAC!”

Then the real tsunami began. Omar was immediately labeled an antisemite. By early afternoon on Monday, Democratic leaders – who sunk a proposal to censure the nine-term, openly white supremacist representative Steve King just weeks earlier – had called on Omar to apologize, which she did promptly. Evil people have used the hateful conspiracy theory, that Jews use their money to secretly control politicians and the media, to commit atrocities against Jewish people for many centuries. Everyone, especially politicians, should know and acknowledge this. But in doing so, it’s incredibly important to be able to distinguish between real antisemitism and basic political facts. We need to be able to examine the money and influence in politics that every special-interest group, including pro-Israel lobbying groups such as Aipac, wields. Often, because of their ability to pay for costly lobbyists and fund political campaigns, these special interests drown out the voices of everyday Americans. As a result, members of Congress are way out of touch with the views of their own constituents. Omar’s controversial tweets noted two important realities. First, money is a huge problem, and motivator, in Washington. Second, Aipac is a powerful group that uses its money to influence the policy decisions of members of Congress. As both Mehdi Hasan and Ryan Grim detail in the Intercept, Aipac officials have bragged about their power over Washington lawmakers. much more at link....

YIPPEE!! The View producers fed up with Meghan McCain for her on-screen outbursts and 'sulking'

The View producers fed up with Meghan McCain for her on-screen outbursts and ‘sulking’: report

Producers for “The View” are reportedly fed up with co-host Meghan McCain — and have told her to shape up or ship out.

Radar Online reported Tuesday that according to a source at “The View,” producers have chided McCain for an on-screen feud she had with fellow co-host Joy Behar on Monday.

During the spat, Behar panned her co-host for having a “hissy fit” over a discussion about senator and presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Donald Trump.

“Can I say something now? Is that ok? Do I have permission to speak now on Amy Klobuchar now? We’re all good?” McCain said at one point. “Alright, nope, nope, by all means, keep going, Joy.”

“If you’re going to have a hissy fit, we can’t continue,” Behar responded.

McCain, the report noted, is “losing patience” with the show — and its producers seem to be losing patience with her.

Criticizing AIPAC is not anti-Semitic and it's absurd that this even needs to be said.

As a Jew, I want to welcome anyone who wants to criticize a lobbying coalition funded by arms manufacturers, evangelical Christians, and allies of the right wing edge of Israeli politics. Criticizing AIPAC is not anti-Semitic and it’s absurd that this even needs to be said.

Sen Richard Burr caught on tape suggesting Hillary Clinton be shot..Don't trust him!

Scott Dworkin
?
Weeks before Election Day in 2016, I reported Sen Richard Burr to the Secret Service, after he was caught on tape suggesting Hillary Clinton be shot. The NRA was his biggest supporter, spending over $7,000,000 on his re-election campaign. Don’t trust him!

This may be the most accurate and succinct summary of US immigration policy since the Reagan era

@RKB42Luck

It needs to be understood that Republicans brought the "illegals" into the US for exploitable labor and to break unions. They refused to make them legal because then their strategy wouldn't have worked - and now they want to treat them like dirt for political advantage.

This may be the most accurate and succinct summary of US immigration policy since the Reagan era that I’ve ever read.

Though the “normalization” by Reagan & @GOP was to legalize millions already working in construction, agri & hotels for wealthy Americans like @realDonaldTrump.

MSNBC just gave a precise explanation of Trump's thinking:

'He views The Rule of Law as presidential harassment'

To comprehend this, remember Trump's life is built on the premise that there are no rules that apply to him.

He even cheats at golf

Everything follows from that

Neil Young Writes Emotional Tribute to Ex-Wife Pegi Young After She Dies of Cancer

Neil Young Writes Emotional Tribute to Ex-Wife Pegi Young After She Dies of Cancer

Neil Young is remembering his late ex-wife, Pegi Young.

Pegi died after a year-long battle with cancer on Jan. 1. She was 66 years old. Neil married Pegi in August 1978 and they had two children together, 41-year-old son Ben and 35-year-old daughter Amber. The two -- who met while she was working as a waitress near his ranch -- were married for 36 years before the musician filed for divorce in 2014.

On his official website, Neil Young Archives, Neil posted lyrics from his song, "Such a Woman," off his 1992 album, Harvest Moon, which he wrote about Pegi.

"You are such a woman to me/And I love you," some of the lyrics read. "Our love will live/Until the end of all time."

Neil then shared a touching personal note to Pegi at the bottom.

"Thanks Pegi, for being such a wonderful mother to our children," he wrote. "You live inside of them and the many you have touched."

Neil is now married to actress Daryl Hannah. He confirmed the news last October after reports that the two tied the knot last summer in two secret ceremonies -- one aboard his 101-foot yacht in Washington State and one near San Luis Obispo, California. Aside from Pegi, 73-year-old Neil was also previously married to Susan Acevedo from 1968 to 1970.
