Alarm Clock Inside a Living Room Wall Has Been Ringing for 13 Years

It goes off once a night, every night, forever.

A family in Ross Township, Pennsylvania, has been living with an alarm clock routinely ringing inside a wall in their home since 2004, CBS Pittsburgh reports. They've been patiently waiting for the clock's battery to run down ever since Janet Jackson's boob was mainstream news, but so far it's still going strong.

A guy named Jerry Lynn is responsible for said clock getting stuck behind said wall, and he and his wife have been living with his incessantly beeping mistake ever since. Lynn explained to CBS on Thursday that he dropped the alarm clock down through a second-story air vent tied to a string, hoping that its sound would help him figure out where to drill a hole for his TV cable. It seemed like a simple enough plan.

Lynn set the clock to go off ten minutes later, so he would have time to head downstairs and listen for the beep behind his living room wall. Unfortunately, Lynn's household ingenuity didn't extend to knot-tying. The clock slipped from its harness and fell into the wall's abyss.

I'm sick to think of how 7 sailors may have died

and incredulous how a destroyer can be hit by a commercial ship reportedly 3 times it's size in the dead of night?

How Diana Denmans stand for Ukraine revealed Trump soft spot for Russia

snip

In fact, it turns out, the only thing that history may remember about the Republican Party Platform of 2016 is a plank that Diana Denman, quite of her own accord, sought to add to the platform supporting the defense of the Ukraine from Russian encroachment, a plank that was softened at the insistence of the Trump campaign.

Here is the language that Denman sought to include in the platform:

Today, the post-Cold War ideal of a “Europe whole and free,” is being severely tested by Russia’s ongoing military aggression in Ukraine. Launched in 2014, Moscow’s offensive constitutes the first attempt since the end of World War II to change by force the sovereign boundaries in Europe. Ukraine’s government and people have shown a remarkable resolve to resist Russian pressure, including by mobilizing a military force that, together with European sanctions, has successfully thwarted further advances by the Russian military and its surrogates.

The Ukrainian people deserve our admiration and support in their struggle, and in their efforts to strengthen “the Rule of Law,” forge a Free Market economy, and expand democratic governance. We therefore support maintaining (and, if warranted, increasing) sanctions against Russia until Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are fully restored. We also support providing lethal defensive weapons to Ukraine’s Armed Forces and greater coordination with NATO on defense planning. Simultaneously, we call for increased financial aid for Ukraine, as well as greater assistance in the economic and humanitarian spheres, including government reform and anti-corruption.

But that was before a Trump operative by the name of J.D. Gordo entered the picture at the Platform Committee’s National Security meeting last July.

The escaped convicts from GA were caught by private citizens with guns

Sez this DU thread: https://www.democraticunderground.com/10029211791

The reality: Tennessee "hero" says Georgia fugitives surrendered to him (without his gun, because Jesus)

"I realized I had two ex-cons wanted for murder who had just shot at law enforcement who had nothing to lose and for some reason they surrendered and laid down on the concrete in my driveway," Patrick Hale said. "If that doesn't make you believe in Jesus Christ, I don't know what does."

SNIP

he saw them climb over his fence and approach his home, where he was alone with his little girl.

He decided to flee — getting into his car with his girl. Then, just as he prepared for the worst, the inmates took off their shirts and waved them in the air in a sign of surrender. He thinks they mistook his car for a law enforcement vehicle.

He said he never had to pull out his weapon — but the wait was agonizing. More than 45 police officers began showing up within three minutes, he said.

Republicans are showing their misogyny on their sleeve

Republican Senator Just Rudely Scolded A Female Senator For Asking A Question About Trumpcare

The Republicans are showing their misogyny on their sleeve lately. At both Jeff Sessions and Rod Rosenstein’s testimonies, Senator Kamala Harris was continuously interrupted by John McCain and Richard Burr. This is just one example of many.
The most recent display of misogyny was directed towards Democratic Senator Patty Murray, who demanded a public hearing on the American Health Care Act, which the Republicans are hiding from Democrats and Americans. In response to concern for the health of Americans, Republican Lamar Alexander chastised her in a mighty display of “mansplaining.”

1 in 4 Americans Apparently Unaware the Earth Orbits the Sun

Does the Earth go around the sun, or does the sun go around the Earth?

When asked that question, 1 in 4 Americans surveyed answered incorrectly. Yes, 1 in 4. In other words, a quarter of Americans do not understand one of the most fundamental principles of basic science. So that's where we are as a society right now.

The survey, conducted by the National Science Foundation, included more than 2,200 participants in the U.S., AFP reports. It featured a nine-question quiz about physical and biological science and the average score was a 6.5.

And the fact that only 74 percent of participants knew that the Earth revolved around the sun is perhaps less alarming than the fact that only 48 percent knew that humans evolved from earlier species of animals.

many reasons to oppose a Mike Pence presidency

but his skill at lying is the biggest

On Oct. 3 2016, Mike Pence took to the stage for his first and only US vice presidential debate—and calmly lied through his teeth about Donald Trump for 90 minutes. He lied about whether Trump had said more countries should have nuclear weapons. He lied about Trump saying he wanted to punish women who had abortions. He lied about Trump defending dictators. He lied about Trump doing business with Russia. Every time his opponent, vice-presidential candidate Tim Kaine, brought up a statement by Trump—a public, documented statement, the veracity of which Americans could easily validate—Pence did not embellish. He simply smiled and lied.

Seven months later, Pence is still lying, only now the lies have become more dangerous. Today, Americans face a dual threat from Pence: first, in his capacity as vice president and as a key player in an administration rife with scandal and possibly treasonous activity; and second, as the potential inheritor of the tarnished presidency as talk of impeachment accelerates. Mike Pence spent months trying to hide the truth about Donald Trump. It is important that Americans do not make the same mistake with Pence.

Impeaching Trump, in other words, would not free the US from the dark specter of collusion and betrayal that has swept over it since Trump took power. Although Trump has lowered the bar for president immeasurably, Americans must not forget that behind Pence’s smooth smile is a calculating politician with a track record of oppressive policymaking and a knack for dishonesty. The answer to the question “Trump or Pence?” is always “neither.”
