Let's #BuyTwitter and #BanTrump gofundme page

Posted by Valerie Plame Wilson

(Talk about windmill)

When John Oliver jokes about how we “never imagined the invention of Twitter would lead us to the brink of nuclear armageddon," we can all have a good chuckle. But the people who understand how crises escalate aren't laughing very hard. An American president's words matter. Whether it’s Trump improvising at a press conference or manically tweeting at 2AM, the world is always listening. Some people may think Americans can afford to "take him seriously, not literally," but after many years working as a CIA operative, I can tell you that no other government on the planet has that luxury. Least of all the North Koreans.

My hope in setting up this page was to shine a spotlight on just how dangerous Donald Trump's use of Twitter really is. I wanted to reach new audiences and show them they don't have to sit by while the Donald Trump uses this huge platform to undermine not just the moral fabric of this country, but our national security as well. This isn’t about suppressing free speech online. It’s about taking a stand against reckless bravado and threats of nuclear violence that could have horrific consequences in the real world.

I also wanted to raise some funds for a critically important cause I care deeply about: preventing the catastrophic use of nuclear weapons.

Thanks to you, we’re off to an amazing start! We’ve raised nearly $6,000 from over a 120 donors, and have reached tens of thousands of people through social media and the press. This wouldn't have been possible without your enthusiasm, generosity and support.

puke warning - Sarasota GOP names Dick Cheney 'Statesman of the Year'

Former Vice President Dick Cheney will be honored as "Statesman of Year" by the Sarasota GOP, a title that twice went to Donald Trump.

Rep. Liz Cheney is to be named "Stateswoman of the Year."

“They are providing multigenerational leadership to our nation and represent the traditional, conservative values our party stands for," said party Chairman Joe Gruters.

The ceremony will be Oct. 7 at the Westin in downtown Sarasota. Details here.

Past statesmen include Trump (in 2012 and 2015) Sean Hannity, Rick Scott, Ted Cruz and Haley Barbour.

In noting the award in 2015, we described Trump as a showman of sort, who "almost no one takes seriously."

Gruters, who worked on the campaign, said then that the future president “will no doubt play a large role in deciding which direction our country heads and he will help return us to the path of limited, constitutional government.”

Now, Back to our regularly scheduled shit show

Russian oligarch who bought Trump's FL mansion for $100m just had mysterious US companies go bust.

WASHINGTON
Two mysterious companies owned by the Russian oligarch who bought Donald Trump’s Palm Beach mansion filed for bankruptcy in North Carolina Friday, adding to the intrigue about the firms and the rich Russian behind them.

Dmitry Rybolovlev has drawn attention not just for his 2008 purchase of Trump’s palatial home for close to $100 million, but also for the fact that his tricked-out Airbus 319 intersected with Trump’s plane on U.S. airport tarmacs on multiple occasions last fall. McClatchy revealed in March that his plane had been in the Charlotte area twice during the 2016 presidentical campaign at the same time as Trump’s. Rybolovlev’s spokesman first called the crossings coincidental, later confirming McClatchy’s reporting that he was the main shareholder of a high-tech battery plant in Concord, N.C., just outside Charlotte. (Trump and Rybolovlev deny knowing each other.)

The battery plant is the most prominent physical manifestation of the companies that just filed for bankruptcy, Alevo USA Inc. and Alevo Manufacturing Inc. — U.S. arms of Alevo, which is based in Switzerland and is part of the Rybolovlev empire. The oligarch’s far-flung holdings include the storied Monaco soccer club, a Greek island, pricey New York real estate and Trump’s former West Palm Beach mansion.

The Charlotte Observer broke news of the impending bankruptcy Friday, and Alevo’s website was replaced with a single page saying the two U.S. subsidiaries sought “to achieve an orderly liquidation of their assets and maximize value to pay their creditors.” Alevo filed under Chapter 11 of the bankruptcy code, allowing the company’s Alevo's new predominantly Russian management a say on which assets are sold off and how.

Trump hotels are coming to middle America

Within the past year, the CEO of Trump Hotels, Eric Danziger, along with the president’s sons Don Jr. and Eric announced big plans for expansion: the creation of two new brands meant to grow the family’s portfolio in the U.S. One is the downmarket, subtly titled American Idea hotels; the other, a four-star line called Scion.

But after Scion deals fell through in major cities like Dallas and St. Louis, the Trumps found an unlikely partnership in tiny Cleveland, Mississippi. It’s here, in this 12,000-person town, that another family of hoteliers will try to bring the Trumps’ new vision to life.
