Gorka Endangered

snip

Sebastian Gorka, a Bannon ally who previously worked with him at Breitbart News, also faces possible removal from his post as a counter-terrorism aide to the president, said two people with knowledge of the situation.

Bannon had advocated that the president delve into racial issues and applauded Trump’s widely criticized handling of the Charlottesville situation. The president appeared to press forward with that strategy with a series of tweets Thursday morning decrying the removal of Confederate statues.

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi of California called Bannon’s ouster “welcome news, but it doesn’t disguise where President Trump himself stands on white supremacists and the bigoted beliefs they advance.”

“Personnel changes are worthless so long as President Trump continues to advance policies that disgrace our cherished American values,” she added.

charities shun Mar-a-Lago as Twitter pressure rises

Chickens coming home to roost

Four more philanthropic organizations said Friday they have pulled their fundraising events from President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club following an intense social media push calling on people to boycott charities who use the venue.

Susan G. Komen, the world’s largest nonprofit in the fight against breast cancer, the International Red Cross, The Salvation Army and Autism Association of Palm Beach County announced Friday they would no-longer hold events at Trump’s Palm Beach club during the winter fundraising season.

The International Red Cross announcement was particularly stinging. Mar-a-Lago’s original owner, Marjorie Merriweather Post, hosted the IRC’s first ball there and Trump has been a frequent chairman of the event.

The groups, however, had faced mounting pressure on Twitter to find a new venue for their fundraisers. Many Twitter users called on people to boycott the charities, pointing to the president’s off-the-cuff, combative and controversial news conference on Tuesday at Trump Tower.

Members of Trumps digital economy advisory board are quitting

Members of a Department of Commerce committee called the Digital Economy Board of Advisors have turned in their resignations after President Trump’s defense of white supremacists in Charlottesville.

Zoë Baird, a founding co-chair of the board and the president and CEO of the Markle Foundation, confirmed that she had submitted her resignation on Thursday in a phone call with VICE News, and that other members had as well.

“It is the moral responsibility of our leaders to unite Americans by respecting the diversity and inclusion that enables our country to generate new opportunity and celebrate freedom,” Baird’s resignation letter reads. “In order to preserve these cherished values, there must never be equivocation in denouncing hate, bigotry, violence, and racism.”

Formed in 2016 under the Obama administration under Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker, the committee’s aim is to “provide recommendations on ways to advance economic growth and opportunity in the digital age.”

Navy revoked security clearance from officer who tweeted about Charlottesville

A Navy reservist who was known to push debunked conspiracy theories on social media was stripped of his security clearance, according to reports by NBC News.

Lt. j.g. Jack Posobiec, a Navy Reserve intelligence officer, was thrust into the public spotlight this week after President Trump retweeted his take on the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, in which the officer implied the public outrage was fueled by media bias rather than concern of violence, according to NBC News.
