The DOJ can make it difficult for Trump to ever run for office
If he is in prison for the rest of his life, it will be very difficult for him to run for office. Even harder for anyone to justify sending any funds to his campaign.

TL/DR: Just because the Constitution does not explicitly say you can convict a former POTUS, does not mean you can't.
