Pearce takes another step backwards on energy

From pearce's press release:

“In New Mexico, and across the country, we’ve seen businesses close up shop and coal miners put out of work due to the crippling regulatory costs of this rule. With EPA’s action today, power will be given back to the states so that economies, like ours in New Mexico, can grow stronger and more competitive. This is real progress towards ending the War on Coal, which has crushed jobs and increased energy costs in our local communities,” stated Rep. Pearce.

Now if he could explain how a step backwards to dirty, obsolete coal is supposed to move New Mexico forward...

Pearce campaign attempts retaliation

Pearce campaign's latest press release:

HOBBS – Dark money groups continued their attack on Steve Pearce for being the only candidate for governor who puts New Mexico above special interests, releasing a misleading and desperate ad today as part of an ongoing campaign funded by left-wing out-of-state donors with a partisan agenda.

"Dark money groups are pulling out all the stops to attack Steve Pearce because his vision for New Mexico is a threat to their partisan agenda," said Pearce campaign spokesman Greg Blair. "Steve worked with residents, ranchers, conservationists, business owners, and community leaders in southern and western New Mexico to protect public lands without hurting the local economy and their way of life. That kind of leadership is unacceptable to left-wing special interest groups, who parachute into New Mexico to enact a radical agenda with no regard for how it affects people who actually live here."

I think it's the other way around; Pearce is the one with no regard for the 99%. Protecting public lands? You gotta be kidding. Left-wing special interests? Like putting the needs of the people ahead of corporate greed? Yeah, that's a pretty radical agenda.

The group behind the ad is part of a partisan attack organization funded by dark money groups all over the country. Through shady alliances with other far-left special interests, these attack groups want to push radical policies like gun control, government-run healthcare, and appeasing and funding Iran, a state sponsor of terrorism.

"New Mexicans are tired of partisan dysfunction in government, but these groups thrive on it," Blair added. "Steve Pearce is the only candidate who wants to change the way things are done in Santa Fe. It's not surprising that special interests are fighting his vision tooth and nail."

His vision, our nightmare. This whole release sounds like paranoia.

Is Pearce getting paranoid? Or just farther to the right?

The latest email from NM-02 misrepresentative Steve Pearce:

"Yesterday was Constitution Day. It was a reminder about the central document that governs our country and guarantees our rights and liberties.

For the most part, the press gave the day little attention. Nor did they take notice of a poll that showed 37% of Americans could not name one of the rights protected by the First Amendment.

While that statistic is sad, more sad is the constant attack on our rights in the Constitution. Consider recent statements from the national liberals on what they want to change:

Freedom of Speech. They want government to regulate who can say what. They want the ability to ban people who say “uncomfortable” things. The free expression of ideas is under attack.
Freedom of Religion. If you have faith, you are being driven from public life. In the U.S. Senate, they are talking about stopping people from becoming judges because of their Catholic faith.
Right to Bear Arms. The left is determined to confiscate the guns of law abiding citizens.
Protection of Property from unlawful seizure. Whether it is eminent domain or the creeping bureaucracy, too often government applies its force to control what is owned by a private citizen."

Wait a minute; who's attacking the constitution? There are more attacks coming from the Shite House than from anywhere else.
OK, freedom of speech. We can say "uncomfortable" things, but does anyone have the right to promote taking away the rights, or even the lives, of others?
Religion: So someone in the senate said something stupid and prejudicial. Yes, it was wrong, but it's not a movement.
Bearing arms: This is a really loaded issue. (pun not originally intended, but I'll let it stand.) Personally, I have no problem with food hunting, especially when the neighbors share. But there needs to better control over who can own guns. No, I don't have the faintest idea how to do that.
Property: Let's look at Pearce's record - opposing National Monument status for Organ Mountains/Desert Peaks. Rather than preserving these areas for everyone, he prefers selling or leasing them to individuals or corporations.

"Now we read that Hillary Clinton wants to end the Electoral College because she lost the election. Thankfully, the Constitution makes it very hard to change the rules just to advance one party’s political power."

Clinton and a lot of others want to end the electoral college, not out of spite, but because it is outmoded and does not represent the voters. trump was not elected by the American people, but by a bunch of party kissasses called the electoral college.

"The Constitution, including its Bill of Rights, at its core says, “just because government wants to do something, that does not make it right or legal.”"

And just because something is legal, that doesn't make it right.

"But if we are to uphold our Constitutional system, we also need to win elections. That is why I am turning to you to ask for your support of $25 today.

For the 70 days I have been running for Governor, nearly each day I have been attacked by one of my opponents or special interest groups. They are already running negative TV ads more than a year before the election. Why are they attacking? Because they want complete control over state government. With complete control they will try to bend and break our Constitutional freedoms to advance their left wing agenda."

Being attacked? Awww, pobrecito. Why? Because so many people are disappointed with his misrepresentation and do not want him as governor

At least this letter was not addressed to "Dear Supporter." He doesn't need a supporter; his congressional voting record proves he is "sin cojones." (Yeah, cheap shot, but I'm extra cantankerous this morning.)

Sen. Udall condemns trump on DACA

Press release from the senator's office:

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Tom Udall responded to news that President Trump may soon announce an end to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. He issued the following statement:

"DACA has compassionately allowed 9,000 young New Mexicans, who have known no other country than the United States as their home, to legally realize their dreams of continuing their education and contributing to the economy and their community. These young people came to our country as children, and today, they are working and going to school to become teachers, doctors, engineers. They are making our country stronger – reneging on our promise to them now is hurtful and wrong, not to mention a disaster for our economy.

"The United States of America that I love honors its commitments, and I will fight tooth and nail to defend our Dreamers and prevent families from being ripped apart. Instead of peddling these dangerous, hateful proposals to deport young people who are contributing to our society and waste billions of dollars to build a pointless wall, we should be focused on comprehensive legislation to fix our immigration system."

These young people have grown up as upstanding Americans. Through no fault of their own, they lack only a piece of paper. Any action against them would be a crime.

NM Senator disagrees on Afghanistan

Press release from Marty Heinrich:

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement today regarding the path forward in Afghanistan:

"Since 9/11, we have been at war in Afghanistan and it is now the longest war in our nation's history. Sending additional U.S. troops into Afghanistan is not a substitute for a sound strategy and won't get us anywhere new. It is long past time for the government of Afghanistan to shoulder their own defense. While America must be able to project a counter terrorism presence wherever terrorist groups like ISIS or Al Qaeda seek refuge, we can never and should never be the de-facto security services for Afghanistan, much less the world."

I don't always agree with the senator on military matters, but I do on this.

Going nuts with zucchini?

It's that time of year; whether you're nuts about zucchini or it's just your zucchini plants going nuts, this is a delicious way to use some up and even stockpile for winter. I just made a double batch and froze 2 loaves.

Zucchini Nut Bread

1 1/2 cups zucchini, grated
1 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 cup light brown sugar
2 each eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt

1. In a medium bowl combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, sugar and salt and blend thoroughly.
2. Blend in oil, eggs and vanilla. Do not be concerned if mixture seems too dry.
3. Stir in zucchini, then add nuts and continue stirring until thoroughly mixed.
4. Pour into greased and floured small loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for apx. 1 hour or until tooth pick comes out clean.
5. Cool in pan for 10 minutes then turn out onto rack

Great with cream cheese! Wrap and refrigerate unused portion; should keep 5 days or so if it doesn’t disappear first.
Freezes well. Double wrap with plastic and foil; thaw in refrigerator.

You can even shred and freeze zucchini for later use in this recipe or meatloaf. Use a little more, thaw and drain.
